Beta reading this was SO MUCH FUN. This thrilling conclusion to the Ridge series was so well done. Every time I think this series can't get better, Shawn surprises me. What I love the most about these books is how intricate they are in terms of war and tactics. The twists are so well done because I never see what's coming.
The ending here was a little bittersweet. I hated saying goodbye to these characters. I'm going to miss them a lot and I hope that we see them show up in some future projects. I am really looking forward to whatever Robinson publishes next. He has become a fantasy favourite.

Strong ending to a solid trilogy

This was a worthy ending to this trilogy with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing all the way to the end. I don’t want to reveal any spoilers because not knowing how it ends adds to the whole experience. The People of the Ridge are a people of honor and that concept of honor is almost their entire driving force, their raison d’etre. But what I learned from this trilogy is that there is another motivating factor for the people and no one demonstrated that more than Hamel. And that was love for his fellow people. He would do anything to protect his people to the point of sacrificing his own honor and life, but more importantly, he offered the same opportunities to people not from Ridge, if only they let themselves receive this grace. In many ways Hamel is a Christ figure in this series, although he is not without sin for those who might think I speak blasphemy. But his driving force is love and honor and he constantly seeks to do the right thing. He is also a teacher in everything he does and I think that’s part of what draws me to him. Sometimes when you read a book a character will worm their way into your heart and just hang around. Hamel has become one of those characters. I wholeheartedly recommend this series. Maybe it won’t be one of the greatest pieces of literature that you read. But I think it’ll make its way into your heart. It did that for me.

I enjoyed this conclusion to the trilogy more than some other trilogies which seem to drag the story out. This book had a purpose of it's own and delivered the same amount of imagination and intrigue as the others in the series.

Exciting conclusion to the Trilogy

This book, like the first 2, is a superbly well written novel. Structurally sound, Exciting, short sharp sentences leaving much to the Reader's imagination. As all good books should do. 3D characters and recognisable personal situations spurring emotional responses for the Reader (Me). The People of The Ridge, humanly flawed, face their long time foe with invention, stoicism, pragmatism and heroism. Much is lost, many fallen, yet survivalism drives them forward against a conniving, treacherous foe. A strong conclusuon to the series. The author writes of prequalling the Series. Much like Spielberg's feelings with an ET sequel. It doesn't need it. It stands alone. As do the People of The Ridge. That said, from this Reader's sole viewpoint, there are situations in the book which represent uncharacteristic behaviour patterns, dialogue and emotional reactions. Later dismissed in the story I wonder at the relevance of those situations to the Real Story. Latter book situations yet again detail uncharacteristic, flawed behaviour on the part of key characters leading to an unexpected conclusion and loss of a main character. For effect is all I can think of. Unnecessary. Also, inexplicably, the Beasts, so prevalent fearsomely throughout books 1 & 2, are docile non-participants throughout this concluding novel. Peculiar. An oversight? All I know is that, whilst still enjoying and admiring the uniform quality of this well written exciting Trilogy, the aforementioned concerns mean I was and still am dissatisfied with this book overall. A Flawed Finale. Sadly. Wish I felt otherwise.

I have been anxiously waiting for the final book in this trilogy to be released. I have loved this series so far and so with each new book I've been worried that I wouldn't love it at much as the last. But oh, this last book was soooooo good!!!! I won't leave any hints or spoilers, but I definitely wasn't disappointed.

Terrible Ending!

I enjoyed this mostly because it was a clean read and interesting story, Killing off a main character at the very end when things are good ruined the book for me. Beware of you like happy endings
