The edition I have has a much nicer dust jacket featuring a b/w pic from the silent era. If it's just photos of the stars you're interested in, this is one of the best books around. I managed to get an excellent copy of it on ebay for about £5 inc P&P even though it's quite big and heavy. The pics from the silent era are the best in my opinion, but they go right up to the age of Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper, and a lot from the 50s onward are in colour, not that that is always a good thing.

There is more info on the photographers than there is on the stars, so you probably won't learn much, but this certainly is a lovely book to look at.
