One deadly competition. A mountain of dragon dungeons. Participation is mandatory.
Through clever usage of construction techniques as well as ham-fisted applications of force, Carl survived being reborn as a shadow dragon inside the Scoured Mountain. The future is looking bright for him and his band of trash-tier minions, and they’ll have ample time to decide exactly which kind of society they want to build in this violence-filled world.
There’s just one tiny problem. Only one dragon gets to be in charge, and every single other dragon from his clutch survived as well. Now that they’ve gotten to this point, they need to play a little game. The prize is survival, and a questionable promotion. Carl's already ahead of the competition because of the questions he gets to ask the mysterious, glowing human trapped inside his domain.
Okay, so I bought this yesterday. It came out, yesterday. I’m finished it already, because it’s THAT GOOD. Seriously enjoyed it and stayed up way later than I planned reading. Love the character development and expansion especially, Onyx is growing into his own, and the way he deals with ‘people’ is just great! Love it and can’t wait for the next one!
Ohhhh man, that was FannnFriggenTastic! I love Lars Machműller as he takes us back to Onyx's world, where a human might be reborn as a dragon. A fantastic litRPG adventure at that. And Onyx the most un-dragon like, and true to form, starts building bridges taking on minions, but treating them like pals and although his first attempt at finding a dragon ally failed. He's still hopeful that he will succeed. Because he has to have allies in order to stop the Necromancer when he returns! Which is of course his main goal, that and not to die, a given. But there's still plenty to do first! One of those things is to free Timothy another human that he found when he claimed the necromancer's Lair. He finally has enough mana to free Timothy from the torture cage he was left in! But best layed plans fail when the necromancer arrives early. So with plenty of pop-cultural references, you're gonna hafta grab this action-driven story to find out who the Master of the Mountain is!
Here's a quote that tickled me:
"Hate me? I'm adorable. And blue. Who doesn't love blue? I'm, like, a giant Smurf."
Master of The Mountain by Lars Machmüller: Adult LitRPG Resurrection Adventure Fantasy. Dragons. Progression. Alliances. Captivity/slavery. Single Third Person POV. Necromancy. Magic. Self-sustainability. Friendships. Protecting those under you. Leadership. Action. Monster fights. Monsters and creatures. Sacrifice.
Slow-burn and well-written with likeable characters, interesting world building and heightening stakes.
How Much I liked it? 4 Stars Ideas - World Building: 5 Stars Ideas - Plot: 4.5 Stars Character Depth: 4.5 Stars Character interactions: Expert Animal Characterisation: Minimal Non-human body Language: Minimal Warnings: Moderate Violence. Mild slavery/captivity themes. Execution: 4.4 Stars (6 proofreading errors that don't effect the story).
Excellent continuation. It keeps the same feel and is one of those cases where "more of the same" works well because that means more challenges and growth revealed in a consistent manner. I'm recording about a dozen reads all at once in GoodReads, but this was one of the books where I could not do it the disservice of a blank review. It earned it.
The writing in this book was much worse than the previous book. It felt like the entire book was just summarizing what had already happened. The ending was good though.
Onxy is well written, and I love how the other races and characters are developed. With plenty of action and some well crafted solutions, this story flows easily, and Im interested to see where else it may lead and how his humanity will grow to be a bigger strength.
I agree with some of these comments. The fact that he was under control for so long in the book was annoying and one of the deaths could have been avoided. I like the story but hate the soul carver part
Onyx is an odd character in the Scoured Mountain, knowing nothing of the history and ways of the creatures living there. And yet he seems to be succeeding and growing. But then disaster falls and all appear lost until the last pages of this installment.
This story of a guy who is reincarnated into a dragon is so unique and unpredictable but is also a fast pace action packed read that I enjoyed reading.
This book was OK. Still like the main characters, but (spoiler) I hated the part of the soul carver taking over Carl. That is a week overused plot line. Not sure I recommend this book.
I like the series and cried at the end. I understand that all stories have to have a big villain .But I did not enjoy the soul carver. It's a personal issue for me and it made the story hard to enjoy. I still will read the next book because I like the concept, and I will recommend it to others. I thank you for your hard work.
I was disappointed from the very beginning and never got over it. In book one the story ends before the mc clears the entire area. So you pick up book two and expect to pick right back up. Instead you got to read how it has already been done and how everything is going great. Not what I wanted. I will be dropping the series because of this.
Carl has survived his first major test as a dragon and his minions are far stronger than they used to be. He still has to worry about the other dragons in his clutch. Everyone would expect a Shadow Dragon to lair up and perfect his defenses. They would never expect him to go on the offensive.
While this is obviously a dragon book, the book changes perspective as the book goes along. It starts out as a domain (dungeon) builder, than goes to an adventure story. Tim is a great addition to the story! I only wish that he was in it more.
Exciting continuation to an interesting take on a Dungeon Core series as a Dragon. Without giving away any spoilers, the middle dragged a little as I was concerned about the direction the story was going. However, the end was worth finishing the book.
Carl, our main character in this series, continues his journey of slaying the other dragons of his brood. Getting controlled by a necromancer who has domination and revenge on his mind against the dragon who reigns supreme over the mountain. In the end breaking free of the necromancer and helping defeat him just short of his revenge. Decent enough of a book, but on the whole expected with the exception of the last two dragons doing what every minion told him dragons dont do.

I really love everything about this book! The author's done an excellent job in keeping the story very engaging. I've been completely hooked. The story's well-written, action-packed, witty, funny, and oh my god heartbreaking. Yes, heartbreaking. This one broke my heart into tiny million pieces and I don't know if I'll ever recover. *hugs all the the Talpi*
Steve Campbell's responsible for hitting the feels more. His performance was just simply brilliant!
