For the Love of Kitchens is one of my favorite shows to watch, so I ordered this book as soon as I heard about it! I love deVOL’s style and craftsmanship, and I really enjoyed getting the story behind the brand. And of course the pictures of their lovely kitchens are delightful, too!

Towards the end of the book, Helen wrote something that really resonated with me. She says, “I just wasn’t cut out for having a job. They were a means to an end and I actually feel quite embarrassed now to remember my lack of motivation to make something of myself. But I did make something of myself. I made myself a mother and it was the most important and fulfilling job I had ever dreamed of.”

Now, that is not every family’s story. I don’t think she’s saying that it’s wrong to have a career and a family. What works for one woman isn’t going to work for every woman, which is why it’s valuable to hear from many different perspectives. I appreciate Helen’s honesty in sharing that, while she has a thriving career now, she doesn’t regret the years that she spent at home.

A beautiful book with some interesting text and stories. I would have given 5 stars except there was a bit of repetition in the writing.
