I really struggle with my rating. Whilst the overall writing was good enough for 4 stars the hero was so totally unlikable I just could not 'get into' the book.

Connor is entitled, nasty, arrogant and selfish. I found it totally unbelievable that he was an ex Navy Seal. For me that was an unnecessary and pointless addition to the book. This guy only thought about himself - he would never have survived the training or being in the Seal's if he wasn't a total team player. Was I seriously meant to accept that a man who had done several tours of duty (and as a seal these would have involved fighting and death) would (a) get engaged so his dad would give him a job, and (b) stick with said job when it became clear he was just the company poster boy. Connor's unpleasant father was NOT an excuse or reason for his nastiness.

Whilst I liked Sam and she wasn't cowed by Mr Unpleasant why did she bother? I would have respected her more if her motivation that kept her going was needing the money. Connor may have been sexy as hell but once you spent time with him he became less and less attractive so I don't understand Sam falling for him.

The author did an excellent job of writing such an unappealing hero and I can only assume this was deliberate. Both characters were consistent in their personality and actions, the actual story flowed well and was easy to read, the plot (Connor aside) was good, as was the pace. If the hero had ANY redeeming features I would have really enjoyed this book.

Five stars for "His to Keep", yes I will admit that I toyed with only four stars for a bit . Why did I toy with four stars ? Well, I did not like our hero Connor Cavanaugh but the more I thought about it well the more props I have to give Ms Wood's writing because as much as I disliked Connor through the story, she did a fantastic job of evoking my dislike for him and then showing me in the form of his family why he is the way he is cocky, arrogant, demanding and full of himself . However for each one of those characteristics Connor Cavanaugh can have a sweet, protective and loving side.
Well, before I continue with that tngent I should probably give you a quick run down of our storyline.
Connor Cavanaugh is a former navy seal, home after several tours now poised to take over the family business , a security company that his father stooped so low s to use Connors service to bolster.
However, before Connor can take over as COO and eventually CEO he must marry.
Connor has that taken care of he is engaged to his girlfreind Sandra, of course his father does not like her, not that he ever met her, as far as his father is concerned she is from the wrong side if the tracks and not good enough and unfortunately for Connor ; Sandra kind of lives up to those poor expectations when Connor walks in to her apartment to surprise her and finds her with another man.
Engagement over, wedding called off! So what does a pissed of ex- Fiancé do, why you head to the event planner , cancel the wedding and tried to have billing for non- refundable items changed to your ex and her family. The event planner 's office is where he meets Sam, a beautiful brunette who steps in to help ; and his attraction to Sam has him hatching a plan , one to deceive his father and family into believing him still engaged, after all they never met the real Sandra.
Samantha our heroine is not only just bowled over admittedly lusting over Connor, but also feels bad for the way his engagement ended ; that when he makes her the offer to be his fake fiancé with a large payoff at the end, she figures why not, but she is smart enough to add that there will be a one month trial and she can walk away at the end of that month if she chooses into the contract.
For both Connor and Samantha this turns into a little more than they expected , Connor expected to be able to keep his hands off Samantha but each and every meal, business meeting and fancy affair the couple have to attend only draws Connor in more, each encounter only has Connor seeing more and more just how wonderful a fit Sam actually is for him.
Now , don't be deceived this story is not a cake walk to a happy ending , because just when you start liking Connor and seeing he really does try not be like his father and crazy family , he goes and does something stupid!
So " His to Keep " should be yours to read; Ms Wood does a wonderful job of engaging y with the characters and storyline !

I don't like making negative reviews, but I couldn't not make this one.
I gave 2 stars for the sole reason that I know how difficult it is to finish a book and, like I read in another review, if it weren't for the hero, the book had potential.

But the hero WAS there. And that's why I couldn't even finish it.

In the beginning of the book I was mad at Sandra for cheating. But by 20% I didn't judge her for not loving him (even though she shouldn't have cheated, she should have just dumped his ass).

I started hating the book in chapter 4, after I saw how awful the hero was to the heroine. Connor diminishes Sam all the time! And him saying that "I'll let it slide that you raised your voice at me tonight"?! As if she didn't have a reason to! And she didn't even yell at him, she was just embarrassed at the time!

And in chapter 5 he has the audacity to think she was hot in her clothes. The same clothes he was complaining about in chapter 4.

Then, when she complains about all of the events she has to attend, he talks to her as if she were a petulant child, completely ignoring the fact that he, himself, was complaining about THE EXACT SAME THING to his assistant.

After that he is impressed that she is smart and tells her she should "lead with that more". As if she had any moment in the previous 24h since they agreed to fake-date to do so.

I even thought she'd be mad at him, but she says, and I quote "It wasn't his fault that he could act like such a prick, really. Remember his family, or father?". Well, newsflash, Sam, you CAN blame him for being a pick. He absolutely can't control his family, but he can, and should, control himself.

And one of my favorite parts (feel the sarcasm) is when he says "No? Why not, is there something wrong with you?" after she tells him that her love life isn't very exciting. By that time I was thinking that, if it were me in her place, I'd have answered with "There's nothing wrong with me, but it's amazing the amount of chauvinistic a**holes that are out there in the world." and walked out of there. But she doesn't and still endures more bulsh*t from him.

There isn't enough money in the world to make me accept being treated like he treats her. And from what I've read of other reviews, he keeps on being a prick to the very end.

That's why I couldn't finish it, nor do I want to.

Blurb:
Nothing this fake should feel so good.

CEO Connor Cavanaugh is a man in charge. He dominates in meeting rooms and at the gym, and his sinfully sexy body is proof. His upcoming wedding is supposed to seal the deal, putting his company in the spotlight and making it rain.

That all goes down in flames when he walks in on his bride-to-be with another man.

No one can know that a woman tried to make a fool of Connor Cavanaugh.

Cancelling the wedding is the only option… until he spots a gorgeous brunette at the wedding planner’s office. Samantha. The perfect fake fiancée.

She has a body that makes him want to walk her over the threshold, but she’s sweet. Harmless. She’ll suit the position perfectly.

The only problem? Samantha has a wicked smile that keeps him up at night. Every day, she’s more tempting than the last.

He swore he wouldn’t f*ck around with his fake fiancée. He signed a contract. He paid. But the more he sees, the more he wants… too bad Sam has plans of her own.

Wild, sweetly sexy, emotional and entertaining romantic journey for this couple who start out as strangers entering a crazy business contract and evolve into just what the other needs to bring out the best in them once and for all. Loved it.

Connor Cavanaugh is from a highly privileged family and as first born son is poised to take over the family fortune. He is head strong, brave, cocky and argent ex-Navel SEAL back home ready to get married till he plans a surprise lunch and the surprise is on him instead. Enter Sam a event manager that catches his eye when he storms into the office to cancel his wedding. Sam is sweet, sexy, sassy and perfect for the roll of fake fiance in order to keep the COO job his father will only give him if he is marred. The attraction is electric and they fight it for all they are worth.

I was a bit disappointed with this story. The connected story, His Best Friend's Little Sister, was a much better book with more depth and angst and resolution. Sure, Henry and Ellie had a life-long connection through her brother which gave a background for them, but why can't a book of equal length and interesting circumstances have just as much depth? There was nothing here to really recommend the romance itself and Samantha tended to be not just submissive, but a doormat and a rather weak female. I wasn't drawn to her or invested in her. Connor was arrogant and self-absorbed and his confession near the end wasn't nearly good enough to make up for an entire book of his antipathy and vacillation between being drawn to Sam and denial of anything more than physical attraction. Then the dating app thing was a total dick move. Not a fan. So I didn't hate this book because these people were still human and navigating some difficult circumstances that I hoped would have brought them together in a more concrete, believable, emotional way.

Read and willingly reviewed this ARC for the author.

I am a HUGE fan of Vivian Wood's bad boys.... And His to Keep was no different. Although I must say at times I wanted to slap Connor upside his head!!! Then next you know he was sweet, and charming, and downright SEXY!

His to Keep is a slow burning story of an ex Navy Seal turned COO of his father's company, and a sweet and sassy event planner named Samantha.

When Connor catches his fiancé on her knees before another man, he ends the relationship. Now he has to do something, because he needs a fiancé to fully take over as COO. Just when he's gonna cancel, he meets Sam. And concocts a plan. Pay her to be his fiancé. What happens when feelings become involved?

Vivian Wood's books are always so HOT, SEXY, WITTY, and HUMOROUS! Her characters are relatable, and entertaining. I look forward to more from her!

3.5 Stars! What the what?! I couldn't really get into this book because the main character, Connor, was such an ass!! How the heck does Sam fall in love with him when he's always being a dick!? I couldn't stand him! After everything he said & the way he acted, he hardly even had to apologize before she takes him back?! Are you kidding?! Make him work for it after the way he treated you woman!! Other than Connor being a major douche, I liked the story a lot! If you can stand a douchey main character, than I say read it! Sam, the female lead, didn't let him walk all over her so I was happy about that. And considering that Connors Dad is an even bigger a-hole than he is, it's a little understandable that he's one too!

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This was a fairly quick read for me b/c I just could not put it down once I started. The premise of the story is that a billionaire, prodigal, ex-Navy Seal son (Connor) walks in on a compromising situation with his fiance and ends the engagement, but needs a fake fiance to appease his father in order to take his place as heir of the family company. When Connor discovers his fiance on her knees in front of another man he is furious and immediately goes to the wedding planner to cancel certain expenses and have them billed to his ex. It is here that he meets the heroine of the story for the first time, Sam, as she tries to defuse the situation between an angry Connor and a flustered co-worker. After meeting Sam, Connor hatches a plan to pay her to be his fiance (seeing as how his family never met the real one and wouldn't know the difference). Sam agrees to a trial period of one month to see how things play out. Right from the beginning Connor is a bit over the top in his rich, sexy, entitled attitude and I am not sure if I really like him. He even tells Sam that they can see other people as long as it was kept inconspicuous. However, after meeting his family one can see why he turned out the way he did. Sam, for her part, was intelligent and charming and managed to do her duties well and stick to the contract (which included fancy dinners and schmoozing with business donors). Fancy outings included a brand new wardrobe for Sam, bought by Connor's assistant which had me LOL'ing at the line "WTF does your assistant need to know my bra size for?" All is going according to Connor's plan, albeit he is flying by the seat of his pants, until feelings started getting in the way, on both sides. After a quick trip to Monaco things change and what happens while on vacation doesn't always just stay on vacation. Connor can't figure out his feelings and thinks if they just continue to stick to the original contract it will be fine. He may be miserable, but it will work out and he will get what's been promised to him by his father. What will it take for Connor, who really has no clue what's going on with his own heart, to realize that things are not always what they seem? Does he get his act together in time to keep the girl? You will have to read to find out, and no peeking towards the end, but you will get your Vivian Wood HEA, although it might include a little groveling in order to get it. I definitely recommend this as a fun, pull at your heartstrings one-click type of read.

So Ms. Vivian Wood must have some mad Super Powers...
Why do you ask?
Well, I had through about oh I would say.. 65-75% of the book a DEEP dislike
For the arrogant, cocky, self-centered, had it been me he talked to like that I would have taken him out to the middle of the sea booted him overboard left him to swim to a deserted Island where even Wilson would have shunned his a** Connor. Yet, I kept reading wanting to see how this absolute madness of an arrangement would pan out. AND the kicker, I started to feel for him.. kinda even liked him, that has to be some kind of super power!
I wanted to shake Sam a few times, but I felt like she had a purpose, she was tough, smart. It did kill me a bit with the way she let him get to her- but she did get some good jabs in.
Phew! There I feel better getting that out!
Regardless of my need to throw the fictional man overboard.
Ms. Wood certainly captured my attention and held it throughout this roller coaster of a tale!
This sexy, blood pressure raising read ( for me at least ) was intriguing with its family drama and deception, cameos by Ellie and Henry, surprisingly sweet moments and crazy contract turning into something else entirely!
A book I won't forget anytime soon!!

I feel like very few authors can successfully achieve writing characters with depth when writing in 3rd person. It was like I was wading in the shallow end of the character development pool reading this.

Connor is terribly shallow, basically a douche, and spends waaaaaay too much time staring at Sam’s boobs. Sam on the other hand is the perfect little ingenue. She is gorgeous, has a banging body (of course), is almost basically a virgin (save for one high school consenting encounter), and multi lingual after taking some french classes in college 🤔 anyway. Her “dating” background is ridiculous and painfully cringy. It’s all so superficial and bleh.

The most annoying thing about this book is the sex without proper safety discussions. Like not even acknowledging any element of it until it’s already happened. And then Sam being shocked at the end when she ends up pregnant 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

His to Keep. His to Love. His.

What happens when you find the love of your life with another man??
This is the story about Connor trying to please his father and bring a woman to the legacy. Even though that woman is not his intended, but one that he has paid to keep the facade.
Beautiful Sam has a good job and a good life bit when Connor comes in to her office demanding a refund for his wedding, she is quick to help, but he propositions her to become his fake fiancée.
What will happen with these two adults who need understanding, patience, and above all love.
Will he find the love he needs with Sam, will she??
Read the book!!

WOW! Another great read by Vivian Wood. The storyline between Sam and Conner was written well and I give this book 5 stars. Conner is the COO of his father's company and Sam is a Event planner. They met after Conner pays his fiancé Sandra a surprise visit. Sandra had given his a spare key, found her on her knees in front of a man. Conner calls off the wedding and goes to cancel the wedding plans and that is where he meets Sam. He tells her he has a proposal for her. His job is his only if he gets married. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

The main character, Connor, discovers that his fiancée cheats on him, so you think : poor man. But then, we discover that he is a real asshole, without any form of empathy. And after that, I don’t understand why Sam, the other main character, decides to help him by faking to be his fiancée. So I loved to hate him, and I hated to hate her….After all of that, their feelings evolve, but the Connor’s behavior can be really hard ( and hot too:).
To concluded : this is an excellent book, well written, with a good story.

Another great story by Vivian Wood. This is Connor and Sam's story and what a story it is. I loved it. It is a one mixed up roller coaster romance. The characters are: Connor who is the son of the owner of Trezor Security. He is a former Navy Seal and being groomed to take the COO position.
His father CEO of the company and a reprobate. Sam is an event organizer. Hired by Connor to act as his faux fiancee.
Now starts a great ride. It is a great 5 star story. "I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy without pressure to do so".

This starts out as having one of those cocky, arrogant, alpha males who you want to dislike, but you can't. Then through an awesome storyline his character becomes someone your rooting for against all odds. Vivian helps us remember that our past doesn't have to define us, with a little luck and a lot of faith we have the potential to make our own future. Conner and Sam have a weird start, but maybe that's the kind of relationship they both needed to discover who they really want to be. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.

He starts out as a jerk. After being cheated on just hours before he meets the wedding planner. He gives her a proposition to be his fake fiance. Just in the fake relationship to get his place in the family business. He doesn't realize that the girl he found would be stunning and perfect in every way. He continues to be a huge jerk until he realizes what he has lost. A great story that I won't ruin but a must read. Loved it!

So disappointed with this book .. it was just all over the place the hero was a jerk and the heroine too stupid .. too many errors of continuity.. no chemistry and just felt monotonous for the most part .. and the ending was too weak and rushed .. and i still don't get what was the point of making connor an ex seal it had no effect on the story and really he didn't act at any time like he experienced any military training or been to war zones what so ever

I had mixed emotions about Conner because on times he is a complete ass! And i wanted to slap him upside the head and on other times I loved him.

It was lovely to catch up with Sam and Ellie I love the fact that these books are all entwined it ads a little familiarity to all the books.

All in all I loved this book and would recommend it❣

Vivian Wood: 5 Star read!

I love Vivian’s bad boys. And I have to admit, this isn’t her usual go hard, go fast plot! It’s more of an intense romantic relationship type than what I believe I’ve read before, and the chemistry is really hot. I’m loving it as something different, and I believe it is her best yet!

Ex-Navy Seal Connor Cavanaugh has come home after 8 years service, and is to be signed on as COO at his father’s Security business. Being the piece of work that his father is, there’s strings to be attached – of the marital kind. Accordingly, he’s engaged to Sandra despite his father’s disgusted misgivings, stating that she is not of worthy social standing, and in heading over to her house early, he discovers that she is indeed, not worthy, but not for the reasons his father thinks. To be caught kneeling in front of a trouser-less bloke, with mouth full, isn’t any man’s idea of wifely behaviour no matter how the now ex-girlfriend tries to spin it. And now that he doesn’t have a girlfriend in the hand, his promised future in the hands of his father looks somewhat dire also!

As Connor is just about to cancel wedding plans, he meets Samantha at the Event Planning business he’d contracted. She’s gorgeous. In fact, she looks and acts like the perfect fake fiancé he thinks could impress his father enough to maintain the current plans of his taking up the COO job position. Even better, she can pretend to be the dumped girlfriend, afterall, his parents never actually 'met' Sandra.

Everything is going according to plan, except for the frustration of the intense attraction between them, and, even as Connor is doing his best to sabotage any developing feelings, he realises it’s too late for that, and he might just have gone too far with the damage.

Vivian writes books that have a witty humour and intensity about them, and in His To Keep, I also really loved the slow build-up of intense heat between these two characters as they try to keep their hands of each other, as stated in the contract. Thank you Vivian Wood for the Advanced Readers Copy of His To Keep and my voluntary review is 5 Stars and the purchase of my own copy!

3 & 1/2 stars rounded up.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader's copy of this book.
For the most part, this was an enjoyable read, it held my attention & I read it in one sitting. The flow of the writing was good & the world building was good. The "Hero", Conner is a real jerk, he doesn't truly line out enough in the story for me to ever really like him, I didn't understand what Sam saw in him to fall in love. Sam, as the "heroine", is sort of a door mat letting Conner run all over her & take advantage of her. I never really felt the love connection between the characters.

There were a lot of unanswered questions in this story, the biggest, why the heck did Sam agree to this arrangement. When Conner asks her why she agreed, she says to buy a house, but mentally thinks - it's the first thing that came to mind when he asked, that she'd never really thought about owning a home, it was left as an undefined answer thru the rest of the book. I kept thinking there was another underlining reason that would come to light later that she hadn't wanted to say out loud (like pay off a bill, or a buy a car, or whatever), but it didn't. Personally, $25,000 was not nearly enough to put up with his or his father's crap in my opinion. Everyone that isn't filthy rich, has an idea of what to do with a big chunk of $ like that... I also felt Sam caved too easily accepting his apology at the end, & that made the ending feel rushed to me. He had been a huge jerk thru the whole book, he deserved to work harder for her forgiveness & the HEA.

I liked this book--a lot. And, yes, I agree with the masses that Connor started out as a jerk. Who wouldn't, with his father being the ass he was? But he lucked out when he chose Sam as his "fake" fiancée, after discovering the real one cheating on him. He wasn't nice or sweet to her, but she was a trooper. And she kept surprising him. I loved that about her. She was true to herself, no matter how he was acting.

I loved their romantic interlude, because it gave us a real chance to see the man Connor was hiding. Yeah, he kind of reverted for a bit, but that, again, is real life. You get faced with big changes, and you get scared. That's what happened with Connor, and even though I wanted to smack him, I wanted to hug him, too.

I loved Sam's moral compass. She did what she had to do. She did stuff she didn't want or like because it was the right thing to do. Even if she was afraid it was going to bite her in the butt, she did it. She was one of the most loyal heroines I've ever read, and it was so clear because Connor didn't deserve it (or her).

I pretty much hated Connor's father, and nothing about that changed. I got a little frustrated that Connor let his old man pull the strings for as long as he did, so I was really delighted by the end, when things reached a more logical conclusion.

If you like bad boys and strong women, you'll love this book. Strong in this case doesn't mean feisty. It means being true to herself, and that's why Sam is one of my favorite heroines.
