DBT Skills Workbook for Adults is a book which aims to help you cope and manage with anxiety by learning some of the skills taught in DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy).

The idea for this book is great and it could've been a great book but I feel it's more disappointing than anything else. The 12 week plan mainly consists of a few paragraphs and some worksheets after a chapter describing a type of anxiety (ADHD, OCD, phobias, hoarding etc.) and even then the weekly plan might be the same for a few weeks. The worksheets are uninspiring and very basic and they're pretty much all of the DBT exercises you'll learn. I've got more information from random YouTube videos I've watched in the past than this book!

The chapters spend more time describing types of anxiety than providing any kind of solution or exercise to try and even then the information is pretty basic. The book is also very repetitive I found, how many times do I need CBT and DBT to be compared, the first time it was described was sufficient!

The supplements suggestions in the last chapter was interesting to read but I found the medication section very confusing and contradictory to the book. Surely the point of the book is to encourage readers to find a way to manage away from medication and yet here we are at the back of the book describing them in detail and their uses.

I think the idea for this book is good and the author means well and is trying to help but I don't think this book has turned out that great and it would only be good if you had no knowledge on the subject of anxiety and anxiety based issues at all and even then a lot of it you probably already know!

An Enlightening Read for Self-Healing!

I had no idea what Dialectical Behaviour Therapy was before reading this book. The author touches on so many areas of emotional distress and remedies within our power to help heal ourselves. My favorite topic was mindfulness, which is talked about throughout the book. I also learned a lot about various situations in which to set healthy boundaries in relationships, and even with ourselves! will refer to this book again and again!

Great Resource for Mental Health

What a wealth of information is packed into this little workbook. As an adult with anxiety and CPTSD I will be referring back to it often and working through the worksheets. I think almost anyone could benefit from tuning up their emotional well being using this fantastic resource!

Excellent!

This book really has it all, and I love that it started with boundaries. It walks you through various disorders, how to understand it and how to respond effectively. Overall, this is such a helpful read! Bravo!

A great resource

This is an valuable resource for doing work to improve your life on your own. Therapy is always a good idea, but outside of time meeting with a counselor, it helps to have tools to continue the important work. A very useful workbook.

Shook of chapter headings

This book has only, listed chapter headings, of that which you would like to educate yourself with. However, there is no content behind the chapter titles. Good thing it was free!

A great resource for parents

As a parent having read this book, I can see how much it’s going to help and shape the decisions I make when engaging with my children and life in general so that they don’t suffer with adult anxiety due to childhood trauma.

Poignant and fitting quotes at the start of each chapter, setting the tone for what’s to come. The constant reminder of “being kind to oneself” is very effective at helping one not give up on the 12 weeks of challenges to developing a better, more resilient and mentally healthy you! I especially loved the chapter on setting healthy boundaries as the building block to healthy relationships.
