in this collection of stories, one long, three short, Miyamoto's characters do nothing but reminisce. there is no plot or action, so to speak, but Miyamoto's deft hand imbues everyday scenes with a soft, melancholic sense of our fleeting mortality. in the same way traditional form of haiku ties nature to our own recollections, the characters in these stories are entranced by nature and the news of someone's death to search through their memories of the deceased. each story seems to end without a sort of conclusion, but that may be the point. death may be the ultimate conclusion, but for everyone else, life keeps moving on.
