All Alan wants is a little escape from his daily life as a house husband and father, and his favorite mystery novels provide it. But after a vicious showdown over the books with his strident and controlling wife, his headlong flight takes him into the path of an oncoming car. But it's not Alan who wakes up in the hospital—it's Terrence Man of Mystery, a drifter who makes his way by taking advantage of the kindness of others.
His escape takes him from Los Angeles to New York with the help of a handsome meal ticket, Jared. Terrence and Jared’s deal to exchange sex for transport moves them along from the tables in Vegas to relaxing spas and fancy hotels, and while Jared finds himself falling in love, Terrence knows somehow that it has to end... and when it does, who will survive the clash of his two worlds? The brave, outgoing Terrence? Or quiet, withdrawn Alan?
Madeleine Urban is a down-home Kentucky girl who’s been writing since she could hold a crayon. Although she has written and published on her own, she truly excels when writing with co-authors. She lives with her husband, who is very supportive of her work, and two canine kids who only allow her to hug them when she has food. She wants to live at Disney World, the home of fairy dust, because she believes that with hard work, a little luck, and beloved family and friends, dreams really can come true.

MADELEINE URBAN RETIRED Nov. 17, 2011 - I have made the personal decision to stop writing, for reasons that are important to me, including focusing on my family and my health. Writing and publishing comes with a whole set of expectations and pressures, and I find that it's just too much. While I am sad that this will upset and/or even anger readers, this is the right decision for me.
Abigail Roux will be continuing the Ty and Zane series, and I know she'll do a great job.
Madeleine Urban draws us into the world of a frustrated house husband, Alan, who has a tendency to lose himself in a good book. After his son points out the latest novel in the grocery store Alan loses himself in it. His over achieving and all controlling wife, once again takes out her frustrations on him and he flees his home and family only to be struck by a car. When he awakes in the hospital he has taken on the no holds barred personality of the main character of his favourite novel, Terrence.
I have often lost myself in a novel and probably always will but I’ve yet to take on the personality of one of the characters, but if I did Terrence would be a good choice. After Terrence and Jared connect and make their way to Las Vegas the heat between the two men increases as they make their way across the nation. In the process Terrence is coming to a realization about himself and Alan with him. The interactions between the two draw you into their relationship, a relationship which could be broken when Alan recovers his memory, or will it? I know I had difficulty putting this one down and would love to know what comes next.
In the tradition of an American Dreamer the 1984 movie starring JoBeth Williams, frustrated unappreciated house husband Alan, runs away from an argument with his emotionally abusive wife and gets hit by a car. Waking up in a hospital hours later, he believes he is a character from one of his favorite book series Terrance Whitehead, and sets out on an adventure to get back control of his life. The rest of the book is a leap into the unknown without a parachute.
All I can say is why can't I have one of these types of head injuries!
I would actually give the book 5 stars but it's premise is almost a blatant rip-off of one of my favorite movies.
At-home dad Alan lives vicariously through sexy thrillers until an accident affects his memory, and he goes on the run with rich patron Jared as a Man of Mystery, making a lot of money by charming and sexing up the men and women he meets. This had some potential, but was too short and matter-of-fact in tone to delve into the psychological complexities that make this sort of plotline interesting.
another great short book ... alan just hates his life and gets lost in a world of a book is been reading, he loves his son so much. But he wants a better life and as alan i was lost in the book ... i was thinking was it all a dream or reality.. if U like abit of mystery heres one for u read and go on a journey with Alan...
I liked the premise of this book but could have done w/o the m/f/m sex. About threw up in my mouth. But other than that, it was entertaining and I loved the ending.
