Thank you to Elizabeth and Rockridge Press for my gifted advanced copy of this workbook!
If you have heard about attachment theory in school or on social media and have always been curious about it, this is the book for you! Honestly, I can’t think of one person who would NOT benefit from her work…this workbook really is a must-have resource for anyone committed to self-awareness and growth within themselves and their relationships.
Elizabeth is an attachment theory specialist and expert. In her workbook, she walks the reader through attachment theory in a down-to-earth, relatable, and conversational style. Afterwards, she examines the interplay of ALL the different attachment styles (example: one partner has anxious attachment and the other has avoidant attachment). She provides prompts for reflections that are tailored to each interplay and potential strengths as well as potential challenges.
As a therapist myself, this is the attachment resource I’ve been waiting on to recommend to and use with clients! This workbook goes into a level of detail and expertise about attachment theory and different dynamics between attachment styles that I have not seen done to this level of excellence in other resources. Added bonus: Elizabeth’s passion for attachment, caring personality, and compassion shine through so beautifully in her work that readers will get to experience a small glimpse of what working one on one with her is like!
This was very basic info which has its place but it wasn’t very insightful when it came to resolutions and solutions. Also it’s heavily focused on non married relationships which is a whole different ballgame than a marriage relationship where the stakes are much higher and much more significant interactions. Also many of the scripts are with gay/trans couples and that’s not my cup of tea. I’d pass on this one.
I expect this to be very helpful in raising our marriage to a higher level. Other “attachment theory” books I’ve read have confused me about what MY style is; in this one it was quite clear, as was my husband’s style. With the tools given in this book, I am hopeful that we will be able to develop some better skills for communication and conflict resolution.
My partner and I went through this workbook together in a weekend. This will be a book we will pick up again and again! We are already navigating our relationship with a much better understanding of each other's attachment styles. I would recommend this book to anyone!
This book is easy to read and easy to understand. Some books on marital relations have so much information that it becomes confusing. In this book it is easy to see the differences between the attachment styles.
