One Week with His Stepbrother

Rate this book
JJ Whitehurst has made billions for his clients—and millions for himself—over the years. An unapologetic workaholic, he finds solace in his career. It’s easier to evade personal entanglements when he’s always working. Then along comes a forced vacation and the keys to his father’s Santa Monica beach house, neither of which he wants, and the terrifying thought of that much free time, alone, causes him to reach out for company.

Rory McMillian’s first night as an escort brings him face-to-face with the daddy of his dreams. All six-foot-five and 200 pounds of muscle is made for sin. When his client can’t let go, one night turns into one week… and by the end, an offer is made.

Be JJ’s kept boy.

The proposal is tempting yet Rory refuses. He won’t live as some shameful secret, no matter how drawn he is to JJ. Yet, as weeks pass, he can’t stop thinking of the opportunity he tossed aside.

Fate steps in and compels the pair to face one another again—but circumstances have changed. They conceal their knowledge of one another and the simmering attraction they both still feel.

But how long can they before their desire boils over?

If you had the choice between a peach-colored and a lavender-colored dress, would you voluntarily choose peach? ...
brrr the horror for me.
And apart from that, drama drama drama ... I don't like this that much, but I expected it, so it was ok. Yes the book is a bit of a soap but the dynamic between Rory and JJ is exceptionally hot.
In terms of kink, this is more a story about lace than Daddy-kink. And Rory is very independent and doesn't really need a Daddy, even if they play with it a bit. I really like their interactions.

Lifting the skirt, he eyed his hard cock straining against his panties. Drawing a hand down, he rubbed the shaft through the silky fabric and sighed with delight. Lips parted, he watched his reflection caressing his dick. Unable to take his gaze away, he continued to stroke, fantasizing there was someone else watching. 🤤💗🤤

For the fact that there's so much back and forth and it's actually insta-love too, there are quite few declarations of love and I don't particularly like the ending. It was a bit short, even though there are so many pages ... hmmm, too bad.
But so many nice hot scenes, yummy.

No man nor toy had ever been as thick. Even so, he wanted JJ to rearrange his insides.
“You okay?” JJ whispered, a gentle hand caressing his back.
“Yes,” he fibbed, not wanting the pleasure-pain to stop. JJ thrust forward, impaling Rory even more. An anguished cry came from him, unbidden. “You sure you’re okay?” JJ asked, doubt creeping into his tone.
“Fuck me, Sir,” Rory spat.
🤤💗🤤

Enjoyed this more than I expected. Had had a few 5 star reads that left me with book hangovers, so decided to delve into this as a sexy palate-cleanser, thinking it would be smutty and hot & not much else. But I got a sexy-as-hell, but repressed & closeted daddy in JJ, and an even sexier, smart and self-assured femme boy in Rory. I have to admit, when I saw it was over 400 pages, I wondered how a relatively uncomplicated plot line could last that long, but the twists and turns in the connection between JJ and Rory had me eating this book up, and loving the lack of predictability or Insta-love. Well, they fell for each other quickly but didn’t get their HEA easily.
I like being surprised. I like finding books that challenge societal stereotypes, as well as romance novel stereotypes. This had the potential to be taboo, but actually wasn’t really in the end.

JJ has been a workaholic and sacrificed a lot for his family and for the family business. He's in the closet, lonely, and resorts to an escort service for company. But he doesn't expect all the emotions and the instant connection he feels to Rory, who is sent to him for a night that becomes a week and then more.

I adored Rory. What a sweet guy who you just wanted to root for and hope that someone would give him the world. He stood his ground for the most part in knowing who he was and not sacrificing himself to be with JJ in any shameful or hidden way. Fans of lace will really enjoy this one. I also liked Rory's Mom and how much she loved her son unconditionally. I only wished there hadn't been so much made about them being "step- brothers" after their parents married...because they really weren't in anyway related; nor had they ever been, as they were both well into adulthood and had never lived as "family members". JJ's dad married Rory's mother long after both the guys were over 21, one was in his 30's and the other in his 40's. That bugged me enough to lose the story a half star.

There is a lot of back and forth and push & pull with one step forward two steps back, when it comes to JJ and Rory making it to their Happy Ever After. I really did love their final ending and the epilogue. It's a super sweet ending, but these two had to work hard to make it there! They made you want to tell them, "Hey guys...the name of the game is called Communication" for a reason!

If you're a fan of light "Daddy kink", (no age play), lace lingerie and satin, a little fun, a little taboo wordplay, then you definitely need to check this one out...well, actually this entire series.

That book was so disappointing. So many misunderstandings…and honestly by the end I couldn’t even feel the love between them and I certainly didn’t feel like their « love story » was going to last.

M/m, escort, lingerie, dual POV, ku, age gap, daddy kink (no age play), step brothers
Spice: low
Angst: tried really hard to be medium but was low
Plot: JJ works too hard so he hires escorts instead of trying to have a relationship. One of those escorts happens to be Rory. They hit it off but ultimately realize they're just not right for each other. Imagine their shock when they see each other again when their parents get married.

My opinion: I truly feel like I was reading several different books in one. It tried really hard to be taboo but missed the mark. Rory and JJ went back and forth so many times that I lost interest. Rory continued to tell JJ no to several things and JJ just basically ignored him and did whatever he want. Eventually things worked out but in the mean time it was all arguments and making Rory feel bad about things.

I love the Daddy Tales series from Kelex - loosely connected by theme, not necessarily overlapping as far as characters, with some great tropes and excellent chemistry between the characters.

JJ has been a workaholic and sacrificed a lot for his family and for the family business. He's in the closet, lonely, and resorts to an escort service for company. But he doesn't expect all the emotions and the instant connection he feels to Rory, who is sent to him for a night that becomes a week and then more.

I adored Rory so much - what a sweet MC who you just needed to root for and wanted to give the world to. I like that he stood his ground for the most part in knowing who he was and not sacrificing himself to be with JJ in any shameful/hidden way. Fans of lace will really enjoy this read! I also loved Rory's Mom and how much she unconditionally loved her son.

There is a lot of back and forth and that push/pull / 1 step forward 2 step backwards, when it comes to JJ and Rory making it to their HEA. I truly do love their final ending and epilogue. It's a super sweet ending, but boy, these two had to work hard to make it there! (C'mon boys, the name of the game is Communication LOL)

If you're a fan of some light daddy kink (no age play here), lace and lingerie and satin, a bit of fun kinda taboo wordplay (the word stepbrother is in the title after all!), you definitely need to check out this book and this whole series really.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Never have I read a book that for almost half of it I would rate 5 stars and then goes downhill so fast to the point I couldn't stand a single character

The start of the book is amazing. JJ hires an escort Rory for a week and they have this undeniable connection but JJ is in the closet and can't give Rory more

Then for some contrived reason after they go their separate ways, the author thinks the best way to bring them back together is to get their parents married after they've known each other a week

Once they meet again, all the chemistry we felt between them at the start is gone. JJ is an absolute asshole to everyone and insists on being miserable the rest of his life fir reasons that really don't make sense

Eventually he gets over himself but then Rory turns around and gives the same BS excuses why they can't be together

Then comes the point I had to stop. Rory comes back to his mom heartbroken and she's like 'its for the best. You can't be together now because you're related now and people will be scandalised'. Ah no lady. Pretty sure absolutely no one gives a shit if two adults, one of them damn middle aged, have a consensual relationship and their parents happened to get married after they were already together. Especially considering said parents have known each other a month at that point and she's wife number 7. You'll be divorced before the year is out and you think your son is the scandal here 🥴

I realllly wanted to give this book more than 3 stars. The book started off so well and the first 30 to 40% was almost a five star read for me. But then somewhere along the way it just kind of all started to feel disjointed. There were so many different time jumps and so much push and pull between the two that when they finally ended up together it just felt unsatisfying. I really liked the writing style of the plot but there was just something missing for me. This was my first read by this author so I may give them another go before I pass final judgment on whether their writing is for me or not.

This is an exceptionally well-written stepbrothers/Daddy book. JJ is a wealthy, lonely man who occasionally uses escorts to meet some of his needs. Rory agrees to work as an escort for one job and is matched with JJ. Their week together is magical, passionate, and earth-shattering. They each hope for more, but JJ is not out and they live in different cities. All seems impossible unless fate brings them together. This book has well-drawn MCs, a more intricate storyline with some unpredictability, and lots of red hot passion.

One Week with His Stepbrother (A Daddy Tales Book 3)

Oh what a tangled web Kelex wove here. This is an age gap, Millionaire Daddy/Crossdressing Writer.

They meet by appointment when JJ from San Francisco arrives in L A on business as client and cross dressing escort, and sparks fly. It was an overnight job that turned into a week of very steamy activity. Reluctantly they say goodbye at the end of the week, despite JJ offering to set up his “French Maid” Rory, in an apartment in Frisco. Rory is enraged.

JJ has a fraternal twin brother who is just about to get married. Both brothers are partners with their father in a multi million dollar business.
Father has been married 6 times following the death of JJ and Justin’s mother when they were much younger.

Then fate intervenes when Rory’s mother stops by a roadside in Monterey to help a person whose vehicle has broken down.

No spoilers from me.

I really enjoyed this story and the complications as they arose, no real angst or trigger warnings, despite a couple of homophobic comments.

This is the 2nd book I’ve read by Kelex and will read No. 3 next.

I’d recommended this as a good enjoyable story, but I do wish the editing team for eBooks were more professional. There were quite a few mishaps in this one.

❤❤ A fantastic story from beginning to ending.
A great start as the story begins with JJ realising he was lonely now that his twin was married.
JJ 43 years was bisexual but preferred men and kept it secret to protect the families business. He and his twin hadn't had the best roll models for relationships.
Rory, 25 years, a struggling author who finds a away for some fast cash by becoming an escort. This leads him to finds his perfectly matched Daddy.
I loved the way this was written which had me glued from the beginning. I could feel the characters connection when they first meet. I loved the way the author had written the start leading up with the back story.
Written with both pov's in third person. Both characters have emotions and aghast with the book getting to the taboo point of stepbrothers. A location distance factors in which makes things tough for together.
I loved the ending of this and didn't want this book to end at all for these gorgeous guys. If you love lacey garters and panties scenes there's lots included for Daddy and his boy.

Light Daddy play
First time rent boy/client

Gay B, very out/Bi in closet

This can be read as a standalone. It's completely separate from the first two books in the series.

So much angst and push and pull and drama but I loved the story. I listened from start to finish in one listen. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next with all the twists involved. What I didn't like wss JJs attitude and his treatment of Rory. It got frustrating cause Rory was an adorable, sweet, innocent, femme twink ray of sunshine. I absolutely loved him. Whereas JJ took being grumpy to epic levels and was in the closet and came across as selfish, wanting the best of both worlds with no consequences or effort on his part. When the two were together though and getting along, they were a great couple with undeniable chemistry. It was fairly low steam. I kind of expected more considering their arrangement. I did love all the lace inclusions though.

The narrator did a fabulous job. He had a pleasantreadingvoice. He kept a good pace and he expressed all the emotions and brought the story to life. He did distinct voices for not only the 2 main characters but all the side characters too and they were all pleasant and suited their character. My only 2 small complaints are that all the female characters sounded the same and he pronouned multiple words so wrong that it that it totally took me out of the moment and boggled my mind.

I’m reviewing the audio edition. I was sort of burned out on the daddy thing but something about this drew me to listen to it. I’m glad I did. Very entertaining. There is so many different situations in this story that each on their own could be a book yet together they made this story unpredictable. Rory trying to make it as a writer is having a hard time paying the bills. When his car breaks down and its way out of what he can afford he resorts to trying to make money a different way. His way of justifying it was funny in itself. His first time being an escort turns into more than a job…there is an instant attraction to JJ yet he knows that isn’t the way this works.
JJ is bisexual but has no plans on anyone finding that out except his twin. When his usual escort is unavailable, he ends up with Rory. This is a game changer. He really is attracted to Rory but because of his dad, job and career he can’t come out as other than straight. He has had past things that have caused him to fear anyone finding out he likes guys.
Their one night turns into more but all good things come to an end and each return to their lives. Yet something keeps both thinking about the other. The circumstances and events that bring them back together are surprising. The way they deal with all of it is entertaining. Rory’s mom plays a big part of this story and she is to be admired. The narration by John York brings life to these characters. I feel at times he didn’t capture JJ’s moods very well but overall he did the different characters well.

I enjoyed the other Daddy Tales stories but I admit I was was wondering if I would like this one. It started out with Rory coming to see JJ dressed as a French maid and you know this is his first escort job and that he was desperate because his car had died and he had no money. He and JJ really click and he spends a wonderful 5 days in Santa Monica but they part because JJ is deeply closeted but wanted to have Rory as his kept boy. You know they love each other but it seems that JJ will never come out due to his fear of his father's reaction and that it might damage the company. I wondered about the stepbrother connection but when Rory's mom is going to a party but stops to help a man whose new Tesla breaks down(love the fact he forgot to charge it)and you know that Jasper, JJ'S father was in the area when his car broke down you know they will probably get engaged and they do. Jasper doesn't handle Rory wearing a dress to the wedding at all and I was disappointed in him. At least he did apologize but now Rory was staying in LA working on the series based on his books and JJ wanted him to come to San Francisco and it was stalemate. I loved that Rebecca was able to have her babies and that she and Justin, JJ's brother was staying in SF and JJ came back to LA and he and Rory got back together. Loved the story so much.

🎧Audiobook Review🎧
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(⭐️) 4,5
Performance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed the story, it was entertaining.
JJ is just working and enjoying his life way too little. He is bi, but no one can know that for fear of how his financial clients will react and how his father will react.
Rory is a writer and has a hard time keeping his head above water. When his car breaks down, he is tempted to do something unusual that will quickly bring in the money he needs.
That he falls in love with JJ was not planned. That JJ doesn't want to come out is not an option for Rory and so he draws his consequences.
It doesn't take long and both meet again - as future stepbrothers.
Rory's mother plays a big role, she is very sympathetic, also works a lot and has fallen in love with JJ's father.
What follows is an entertaining section. A bit more communication between JJ and Rory would have been good, but the two definitely can't deny their feelings for each other. If it weren't for the circumstances as they are now. It's a messy situation.
John York did a good job of bringing the story to life. I could tell the protagonists apart well and he narrated the story at a comfortable pace.

An instant ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 stars

Among the series, this one's my favorite! Rory is such a beautiful soul and deserves everything and should I start with having a Daddy who would adore and care for him like he hang the stars to the sky. I got sold by this series primarily because of my lovely bottoms who are either deep into crossdressing and loves to wear innerwear laces or anything that would make their Daddies salivate by just looking at them all pretty and sexy with their lingeries. Which obviously makes their lovemaking hotter than the sun. I get this weird and hilarious feeling whenever I read JJ's name like he's a grown-up man, a big bear-like man, and yet you people choosed to call him like he's just a 7-year boy. Let us not go how he wreck Rory on his bed like a starved and caved man. JJ can't keep his hands esp his prick off my lovely Rory. Unfortunately, despite the long pages, I felt the details of the ending got hasten up. I'm mostly disappointed by Rory and JJ's push and pull situation with their feelings. They should have given more time to fully express their honest feelings. Although, I got taken aback by the fact that there are a few special times when JJ bottomed for Rory. And it's not a first for this series. I particularly discerned all these alike details of each story of the series. I hunch, I'm diving into a wide horizon of this genre; this is why I never get tired of reading MM/BL stories, they're packed with loads of surprises. Aight!~✨✨✨

They fell in love in 4 days!

I enjoyed this romance of JJ and Rory who became stepbrothers long after they’d fallen in love with one another. JJ who had been closeted until he fell in love with Rory and enjoyed the freedom of truly being himself with all of his kinks shared with Rory. I enjoyed the side characters relationships as well. Rory’s mother Gillian loved him unconditionally whether he wore dresses and make up or not! Together, they were willing to face any negativity JJ’s father and his conservative friends dished out to support one another. I also loved JJ’s fraternal twin brother Justin and his wife Rebecca who braved 2 miscarriages but persevered to birth healthy fraternal twins themselves. I’m also hoping that Rory’s BFF Knox has his own romance in the future! It was exciting to see Rory’s dreams come true as an author due to JJ’s secret facilitation! This was a great read! The previous books in Kelex’s Daddy Tales series are great reads too!

One Week with His Stepbrother is the third standalone title in Daddy Tales. HEA. MM Contemporary Romance. Stepbrother Romance. Daddy/Boy. Escorts. Bi. Hidden Affair. Coming out. May- December / Age Gap. Some angst.

2POV, 3rd person, past tense. This kindle edition 434 pages, March 29, 2022.

To be short, this is a very well-written one, with a good story. I just expected to love it, not only like it and that simply didn't happen. I've nothing negative to say really, it's quite well done. I just like the previous ones more. This one didn't feel as hot as the others. I can't put my finger on what made me like it less than 5 stars. Might be only my own mood. Still, if you happened to read the earlier ones, you're likely to like this one too. It's a standalone and you don't need to read the two previous ones to read this.

DNF @ 80%. It had to happen sometime - a book in this series that I didn’t ABSOLUTELY LOVE. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve re-read Books 1 and 2 but I just can’t with this one. The whole thing just felt ridiculous. I was actually really, really, REALLY enjoying this story until the step brother angle. It just felt so…every time the father or mother talked about JJ or Rory being stepbrothers, I rolled my eyes so hard. They’d already met and had sex by the time . JJ was damn near 40, or just over (I’ve blocked it out lol) so can we stop with the he’s your step brother nonsense like they grew up together?? At least with other books, there is some history involved that causes some conflict. JJ and Rory met before the parents! Why am I enduring this??

The wedding after a ridiculously short period of time - how am I supposed to take these parents seriously? And then the whole situation because . Really?? Again, all this shows is that you all DO NOT KNOW EACH OTHER! Furthermore, of course we want everyone to be themselves and be accepted, but give people a little credit. A heads up would have been nice. The father is an older man, with no real exposure to the LGBT family. Of course he was taken aback. Like, get real. There was never any indication Rory, who the father had always seen dressed one way, would show up another.

The whole story just felt contrived for no reason at all, and JJ’s pessimism got on my nerves. I couldn’t hold out to see how they resolved it all, because I could already see from the kumbaya at the wedding after Rory’s mother made JJ’s father apologize that I would need Alka Seltzer to continue.

So…no go for me. I’m going back to the first two. Had to create a new shelf for this one.

Not Your Ordinary Stepbrother Story

This was a great take on the stepbrother trope. I really liked how the author told this story. Rory and JJ meet when Rory agrees to escort for the first time ever. One night turns into four and Rory breaks the cardinal rule of not falling for the client. It's hard not to spoil the story so I'll just say I highly recommend reading this book. JJ and Rory become stepbrothers after their parents marry and after they already fell for each other. While Rory is out and proud, JJ is firmly in the closet. The author weaves the complexity of their romance so well that you can't help but root for their HEA. I am eager to read more from this author.

I feel a little guilty for not liking this more than I did. The story was ok, the California settings were at least somewhat accurate (both SoCal and NorCal), and the sex was certainly hot, but..yeah, just not my fave. The dropped words ("I guess I hadn't realized just lonely I'd gotten." "...since you're going to spending a lot of time here in the future.") and incorrect words ("...show you the sites." "The touch was so bear..." "Damned you..." "...[they] came before the loves on his father's life.") certainly didn't help either. I really think this author isn't one I should pursue in the future -- please feel free to remind me if I start making noises heading their way!

Sweet, frustrating and meant to be!

There is a lot of back and forth with these two but each push and pull just cements the kismet of these two being together.

There are ups and downs and a little twist here and there but a great fast paced and passionate story. The characters are well rounded and grow and improve as the story goes on. I feel like the "step brother" part is actually more of an anecdote and didn't need to be focused on at all.

Rory is so sweet and his love of all the pretty things is sexy and so him. JJ's stubborn, determined and set in his ways but thankfully his determination is finally put to great use in the end lol.

One Week With His Stepbrother

Ok so I do want to mention the title threw me for a sec while reading through the beginning. I can't really explain why without giving spoilers. I really did enjoy Roy and JJ's. However the ending didn't exactly leave me satisfied. There was a left to be desired for these two. Like there should be one more book for them or an extended epilogue. Maybe there will be more of them to come.

Deep in the closet

Reading about JJ hiding his sexual preferences for 20 years was heart breaking.I can't even imagine having to do that, but Kelex has written a very touching book. I loved Rory and JJ too! They are so great together it just takes them a while to get there. I so want to read Rory's books and see the series!

Stepbrotherly Love

Kelex has a way of writing about subjects that many might consider to be taboo. One Week with His Stepbrother seems the least taboo of the three books in A Daddy Tales, but it’s just as impactful. She writes with such emotional intelligence. I appreciate how she keeps her characters true to themselves. I’d love to read about Knox’s story.

Rory's mom seems accepting but toxic at the same time: she's VERY persistent in asking about his love life. Then any answer he finally gives, his mom responds "Whoa, TMI." Then why did she keep asking? What did she expect him to say?
And she keeps knocking on the door to interrupt the 2 MCs, - he's 25, Lady please let him grow up!
And she tries to talk Rory out of dating his "step brother" - come on that's not a step brother. She just wants Rory to herself.

This is a typical Kelex read with a little less kink than one might expect from this author *grin*. It's focused more on the story/relationship itself which is a good thing in my opinion. The only downside is that - for my taste - the back and forth dragged on a bit too long. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I translated the book so I got a free copy.
