A coffee table book with glossy pages and colourful pictures, it reinforces the message that a healthy heart is achievable and recommends that we measure and monitor 6 indicators of heart health - daily calorie intake, waist circumference, cholesterol (LDL and HDL), blood pressure, triglycerides, and morning pulse rate.

The book reminds us that simple steps is all that it takes to keep your heart healthy and often small changes can give big results. The key is to eat fresh food, increase consumption of fruits, vegetables and fibre, move more, avoid toxins and find joy. It suggests that we can stay on track by asking 4 questions every day - have eaten fruits and vegetables, consumed fibre, moved more and found time for relaxation!

In the end all that matters is if you act - just reading or knowing about it is of no relevance. I knew most of what I read, I practice parts of it daily, some off-and-on and I just hope that moving forward the glossy pages inspire me to practice it more diligently.

I picked up this book because it was $5 and I was standing next to the bargin table in line to buy a book. I was pleasently surprised at how informative this book was. It did a good job explaining, in plain English, how food reacts in our bodies. It was true to Reader's Digest form and had many sidebars, tip boxes, and checklists, such as how to stock your panty with healthier things, or how to incorporate "superfoods" into your diet. It covered easy suggestions in 6 areas that can improve the health of your heart. If someone is starting to research this topic, it is a great book to cover the basics.

So far the book is logical, practical and certainly easy to put into practice in a real lifestyle. I think most people know what/how/how much they should/should not eat. I just don't pay attention to my conscience.

As of 08/16/2011 I started implementing some of the suggestions in the book. I do have fresh fruit and veggies washed, slice/cut/diced and ready to grab for a snack. I am trying to be aware of how much I move around and to be more active on purpose. Being aware of what and how much I eat is a pain in the butt and horrible when I read over my how much I put in my mouth each day.....
