A great book for providing an accessible overview of 2,000 years of Christian history. It can be used as a textbook, as it was in my case, but only if combined with additional readings. This is because the book is designed to be accessible to an average reader who has an interest in church history. The writer(s) do come from a more conservative/evangelical background; they mostly treat the subject matter with objectivity, but their particular viewpoint does come through in some parts — just something to keep in mind.

Amazing view of the history of the church. Rather unbiased and exceedingly clear, this is an absolute must read to ground yourself in where we came from.

This was the first Seminary required reading I found easy to read and understand. Excellent history of the Christian Church. A must-read for every Christian who wants to know how we got to where we are in our doctrine of faith.
