I enjoyed this book immensely, the story not only grabbed my attention it tugged on my heartstrings the entire time. I loved the whole premise of “Almost” and how the author takes you on a journey of a couples second chance at romance and because of obstacles and misunderstandings, a second chance that “almost” never happened. This is my first book written by Amy Booker and I enjoyed her writing style, the story she created is interesting and original and her characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. Sarah Lawrence sacrificed a lot when her Mother became ill, she changed her plans to take care of her and her younger brother Benji but she did not give up on her dreams or her love of music. Despite busting her butt working two jobs to pay for living expenses and help pay his brothers way threw college she still found time to write her music and to hopefully record an EP album. But she not only loses one of her jobs but the time to record in the studio when a band books it for two months. Sarah did not know that band was “Indigo King” and that Ryan Crawford was back in town. Ryan left Ohio to pursue his music career three years ago and Sarah broke his heart just before he left and he has not spoken to her since. He was not expecting to see her or have their worlds to collide again and he knew instantly there were unresolved feelings between them. When he learns why she did what she did he knew he had to have her again and this time for good. But life is not always easy, trying to lay tracks for a new album and then going on tour brings in challenges, can a relationship already fragile grow stronger while they are apart. This is a wonderfully plotted rock star, second chance romance, there is plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions and a slow burn but meant to be romance. In addition to the lead characters there are some great secondary and support characters including Ryan’s band mates and Benji’s boyfriend Joe. The character development and world building is fantastic and I loved the dynamics between the bandmates and am looking forward to what comes next for them Amy Booker, thank you for this fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that suited their character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance and had you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for rocking this fantastic listen.

This second chance romance is a slow burn and had my heart completely invested in their outcome. Ryan is sweet, but at times just plain stupid! I know, men can be like that, but his journey back to Sarah is not an easy one, and comes with heartache, and self awareness. Sarah is a little frustrating at times. Her guarded heart keeps her from trusting the one she should be. I love her devotion to her brother Benji and the sacrifice she has made for her family. This is a wonderful second chance romance, and fills that song of love.
Ryan Lee Dunlap and Addison Barnes, perfectly cast, give us a performance worth listening to. Dunlap is Ryan, creating the rock star persona with a heart that is true. I love his nuances of guilt, sadness and most of all love in his voice. Barnes is always a pleaser and she makes Sarah become a character that we all know. She holds that vulnerability yet loves with her whole heart and it's evident in the inflections she uses. This is a wonderful team of story tellers and they treated us a new gem.

This is book one in The Near Miss series and it is Sarah and Ryan's story and it is a great start to a new series and definitely a must read. Sarah and Ryan used to be best friend's and both had a love of music and there feelings for each other grew and was very strong but they didn't do anything about it and then Ryan left to go and live his dream and Sarah stayed behind because she needed to be there for her family. Ryan is back in town with the band Indigo Kings to record there new album by knowing that his path will cross with Sarah the one who he never forgot sooner than he excepted and when he learned why Sarah rejected him and stayed behind he is determined to put things right and get her back regardless of how long it takes. Omg this book takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions that made me cry and also broke my heart with everything that has happened and I couldn't put this book down as it was so addictive, well written and a real page turner and I can't wait to read more book's in this series and this is is an amazing second chance rock star romance and I definitely recommend you read it and you will not be disappointed.

So So - Wouldn’t Recommend
I gave this book 2 stars solely for the Ryan character. He was well written and loved reading his POVs. However, I didn’t like Sarah at all. I almost quit reading this book because she was so unlikeable. While I can understand why the character Sarah might have lied to get her best friend, whom she supposedly loved, to get him to leave to LA to start is rockstar career, it’s how she actually did it that was so unlikeable. And then it was like she had the audacity at the beginning to be upset in anyway with with Ryan when she did this to herself.
Sarah never once let Ryan try to explain anything. I’m not saying Ryan didn’t mess up, because he did. However, Sara was just over the top dramatic all the time. Unlikeable as the “heroine” in this story. I was gong to give this story 3 stars, but juts couldn’t and dropped it to 2 stars.

Ryan and Sarah
Sweet second chance romance. If you’ve read/listened to Amy booker before, you’ll know how intense her emotional roller coaster can be. These characters prove this same principle. High school best friends with crushes on each other separate to follow the path put in front of them. They come together and let misunderstandings and simple lack of communication ensue. Not gonna lie it’s hard to get through at some points but stick with it! It’s so adorable and worth it by the end.

I can’t praise this book enough. A heartbreaking second chance “almost” love story about Ryan and Sarah, and their family and friends. A lot of angst, a few heartbreaks, and strong love. A smiled, my chest hurt and I cried but I couldn’t put it down. A strong start to what promises to be an amazing and emotional series.

Ryan and Sarah have one of the most amazing second chance / best friends to lovers romance. Their love is strong but the complications in live are stronger at some point… They manage to fight for each other, mostly Ryan. He knows how to do a good groveling. Their HEA was amazing. I love their chemistry and everything they have to endure in the name of love. Amazing audiobook performance for both narrators.

This was my first read from this author. I absolutely loved the first person point of view which is a deal breaker for me. Oh my God. I just found my new book boyfriend. Ryan was perfect. I couldn't put this book down.

I really enjoyed watching how Ryan and Sarah made it back to each other. I loved how Ryan was determined and never gave up on Sarah. I did see doubts creep up, but never fully derailing him. I’m hoping Jude is next because with his antics with Ryan and Matt, we might need a couple books.

Listened to this on audible, what a great story - kept me hooked, made me cry, made me shake my head and want to shout at the male lead character. But I loved the ending - now onto book 2

Nice story
Really like the way the story went. The only thing that bugged me is the guy was not a fighter. It sounds like after he started in the band he went to town with every chick around while she saw no one. Why is that? Also if it wasn't serious with that Reese chick why did she come on to him in public. That made no sense if they weren't serious or was more there than what he thought. You gave no point of view on what went down with him telling Reese off. Don't understand why he had to mess up twice from drinking to realize he had a problem. Gonna see if they are in the next story.

I have to admit, there were times I almost believed the universe had it out for Ryan. Despite being lead singer and guitarist in an up and coming rock band that was becoming bigger every day, when it came to his personal life, he just could NOT seem to catch a break! For such a nice loyal guy, he kept making wrong choices and suffering as a result. I don’t want to spoil the angst in this story by getting too specific but I felt bad for him more than once and shed a few tears on his behalf. Ryan and Sarah absolutely belonged together and the fact that they were not was almost a tragedy. I really thought they’d never get their act together.
This book sets up the other two books in the series and should absolutely be read first. Special mentions go to Sarah’s brother Benji and his boyfriend, Joe - so adorable! Just a warning, though, keep a box of tissue handy. You’ll need them.

September 1, 2023Since I only made it to 42% before giving it a DNF, I didn’t think it was fair to grade this book. Just as well as since it would not have been a high score. I tried listening to it on audio but the narration didn’t work for me, especially the male lead so I picked it up on KU and tried reading it but that didn’t work much better.
I found it bland and boring after a while. It supposed to be a rock star book. That’s one of my favourite genres and I’ve read quite a few and this book gave off very few rock star vibes at all. There was no edginess to it. One of the things I enjoy so much about rock star books is the closeness and sense to togetherness between band member, even it there is strife going on. There was none of this. It felt very generic and read more like a Hallmark movie. I don’t watch Hallmark movies because of their blandness, cutesy, cutseyness. Plus, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t connect with either character. I just didn’t feel any depth or realness between the two main characters.
But the real death blow for me for this book was when the hero giggled *shudder*. Heroes do NOT giggle, they laugh. Teenage or very young women giggle. I kept reading further but I couldn’t get past that scene, worried he might break out in giggles again. So this is a nope, sorry can’t finish it book.

Ryan and Sarah had been high school sweethearts. They shared every thought, they loved to write music and sing. In her first year of college everything changed for Sarah and she had to let her love go, no she actually had to push Ryan away. She had to, for his own good because he was to talented to waste away in their hick town. This is the reason I don’t read small town romance, the girl always gives it all up, or just ends up cleaning floors while the love of her life has the time of his life. Thankfully Ryan sounds like his life has been a bit lonesome without Sarah, but she’s only one step up from cleaning floors, just saying. Things are moving excruciatingly slow in this book and I was getting the feeling Ryan wasn’t as great as I thought and all of a sudden he proves me right. I kept reading even though now I think less of Ryan, he’s an immature jerk. He’s also fallen down drunk like a teenager, very unattractive in anyone even a rockstar. He messed up royally and he sings her a song and she falls at his feet, gross. Then he messed up again but the ending was great, I’m giving it four stars.

Oh this was a fun story! It is a wonderful second chance story with great characters! Sarah and Ryan are almost (see what I did there) perfect together, they just have a few things to overcome along the way. Sarah cut Ryan lose because she thought she was doing the right thing and didn't want to hinder his career, but with his band coming back home to record their next album, that'll make it difficult for them to avoid each other.
It's a second chance type romance, though it could be described as a missed first chance, then earned second chance. Now, Booker does not make it an easy journey for either Sarah or Ryan, they both have to work for it, and she penned a wonderful story for them!
There is wonderful chemistry between the leads, with some steam, and some mild appearances of misconstrued infidelity. (Reasons why if you chose to drink, please do so in moderation because it's not an excuse.)
I'd recommend this story to anyone looking for a second chance story with a rockstar lead!
Plus! I'm fairly certain this band had a small cameo in Booker's other series when the band goes to Vegas. I'll need to reread that book to be sure, but I'm fairly certain.

This is an okay rockstar read
. I usually like rock star series, and while I did like this one overall, there were also problems with it for me.
What I liked:
The band dynamic.
The band manager does not appear to be a snake.
The songs embedded in the story.
Sarah’s relationships with her brother, best friend, and employer.
What I didn’t like:
There is way too much crying, Sarah’s and Ryan’s.
Both main characters are immature.
He’s the lead singer ergo band leader, but is almost catatonic not only in dealing with Sarah, but in the pivotal meeting with the label exec’s. But the main songwriter, so he’s got a way with words.
Sarah broke up with him. She sent him away (cruelly), but she’s all hurt and broken-hearted about their separation.
They did not get to the point of intimacy before he left. Both were eighteen. Sarah gets angry that Ryan had “relationships “ while he was gone. Yet, this time when they finally become intimate, Sarah is a sex vixen. So where did her experience begin?
I’ll continue the series, even though I found this one choppy.

Almost by Amy Booker is a really great friends to lovers/rock star romance. It’s about Sarah and Ryan were friends growing up, they both had feelings for each other but didn’t wanna ruin their friendship. Ryan got noticed for his singing and created a band (Indigo King) with his two band mates. Sarah had something bad happen so she didn’t follow Ryan and made sure he followed his dreams. 3 years later they meet again at a record studio she works at and his recording his second album. They talk and realize they both still have feelings for the other. Follow their journey back to each other with the bumps in the road they go to to get to each other and all the crap they face. A really good start to the series. Definitely a must read! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series. #indigoking #sarahandryan #friendstolovers #amybookerauthor

Wow. Ryans Lucky Something Awful Happened So He Could Not Neglect Her One Time.
So they're besties.
But she has an emotional outburst that isn't adoration and he goes away for years.
She's raising her bro, burying her mum and he's off with it all.
He neglects her so much in this book.
Loves her so much he cannot tell Reese like there and then.

A Talented Voice
I readily admit to being a rock genre snob. I have my epic favorites and will be honest with my reviews. While there are hits and misses such as the overall plot is familiar , too much internal musings and Sarah's crying over Ryan constantly, I really liked the personal touches in the story.
Sarah's relationship with her brother and his partner, her song writing, which is of course a product of the author. The remaining band members are interesting so I think I will keep this series on my radar.

Like it
I do like the story it was different and he did show interest in Sarah. But he is not much of a fighter. Ryan gives up so easily in his relationship with Sarah from the very beginning believing the lie. The relationship with Reese is strange as she is very friendly and he responds without thought. It wasn't a very smart move to be involved with someone with the label. She just disappeared after they left the recording and no more mention of her. Glad he got his drinking under control when he realized what he was doing. Glad the ending worked out.

I liked the plot and the secondary characters more than I liked Ryan and Sarah unfortunately. I found them both unable to communicate and whiny. I like strong female main characters and Sarah cried so easily and for no reason. Ryan was very immature and his response to alcohol was strange. I'm not sure if I felt let down as I had read So Close first and loved it so much that I had added this to my tbr and this felt like a YA/NA in comparison.

The story was pretty good. A nice second chance romance with a semi famous rockstar and his friend / almost love from his hometown. I really liked the independence of the FMC and the sacrifices she makes for those she loves. The MMC was a bit immature and not as easy to get behind. I listened to this on audio and it was good but I had a bit of an issue with the accents. It was hard to correlate the intention with the performance.

Rockstar Ryan has always had soft spot for his friend Sarah, he never acted on his feelings because he was afraid to ruin their friendship. But now the time has come to take the leap of faith and to reveal his feelings hoping she feels the same. And, of course, she does. Light and entertaining read worth you time.

This was so good and pulled me in from the start. Sarah and Ryan reconnecting and all the other characters played a big role in the enjoyment of this book. It’s a second chance romance but also a rockstar romance. Two of of my favorite things! Do yourself a favor and give this one a go. This is also book one of a three book series about the guys in the band!

Wow, just wow! Ryan and Sarah have had nothing but a roller coaster ride throughout their relationship. One misunderstanding after the other leads to chaos. They both have trust issues, but see their way through. Anxious to see what comes next in this series.

I enjoyed this one. This was an entertaining read. And a new author for me. I got a copy of the book. And am voluntarily leaving my review.
