Includes a section that introduces Sicily's highlights, from the slopes of Mount Etna to alfresco dining in Palermo. This guide takes a look at Sicily's history, literature and cultural life. From Palermo and Catania to get-away-from-it-all islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa, it offers reviews of hotels, restaurants, shops and transportation.
This is a pretty basic travel guide. I have the 1999 published version which I used in Sicily in the spring of 2001. It was pretty reliable in basic information and there are good maps of the towns and most important sites. It follows a fairly circular course around the island in a clockwise fashion and I was going counter clockwise so that was a little confusing in figuring things out. I was also driving which is an adventure in itself. The suggestions for hotels and restaurants are pretty good and mid-range. I always use at least 3 travel guides to get as much of an idea as possible. I've never found one that is ever just right.
