The oversized trim dimensions and illustrations that bleed off the edges of the page will pull young curious readers into the world of deadly toxic creatures. A creative atypical Contents page scatters the various categories of toxic animals, accompanied by an illustration, across two pages, encouraging all readers to follow their curiosity as they explore this browsable book. Each animal has its own spread (or two) featuring colorful illustrations and various headed paragraphs that provide general details about that category or specific information about different species in that category. Additional spreads include information about poisons and toxinologists, classification chart for a polar bear, and a glossary.

Gorgeous and informative, but lacks citations. Even in a children’s nonfiction book, I think at least some kind of bibliography is important. It puts other titles right in front of them to allow them to follow their curiosity.

Poison/toxin/venom: so often you hear these terms used interchangeably; but each term has a specific meaning. This is a wonderfully informative book that will explain each term by giving definitions that are easy to understand. A very good STEM book for grade school children with vibrant art. Nicely done with lots of facts!
