Ghosttown East #6

The Chameleon

Rate this book
Two hundred fifty dollars. It’s exactly what Camille Gwin was worth twelve years ago when she was traded to the leader of the Underground to pay off a debt. Barely an adult, she was initiated into the harsh reality of a new world. The Underground. Camille knows how it works. Play the game or get played. Her rise in the Underground came at a cost. Life lessons she gained along the way have taught her one thing—trust no one. It’s been her personal pledge for over a decade. It has kept her safe. Until he walked in, changing everything she thought she knew.

Maxwell “Tracer” Hardy knows how it all works. His life with the Ghosttown East MC is the only one he’s known for years. Tracer has his own demons, a past most people would eagerly forget, fused from a painful childhood, the loss of trust, and abandonment at a young age. It wasn’t until he joined the MC that he found his true family, and Tracer will do anything to keep them safe and get retribution. He’s known as the realistic, clear thinker, the honest and standup brother, but deadly when he needs to be. Tracer lives up to his reputation. But something has shifted in his world, bringing in someone he never expected. And can’t seem to forget.

When a long overdue debt is called in, Camille knows what she has to do. The stakes are high and possibly deadly if her betrayal ever comes to light, but that doesn’t stop her. It’s a chance she’s willing to take to repay the debt. The plan is absurd, but both Camille and Tracer are willing do their parts to ensure justice for East and the brothers.

A debt, a fake relationship, and a risky plan which partners Tracer with the elusive Chameleon. What could go wrong?

Amelia Shea writes contemporary romance. She released her debut novel in 2015, and has followed her passion for series romance ever since. Her writing style includes a little sweet, a little sassy and lots of steam. She loves building stories with settings that become comfortable and familiar, and developing characters who feel real, and though they may be flawed, they learn and grow, and finally deserve a happy ending. When she is not writing, she is obsessed with reading (all genres although she does has a soft spot for romance), coffee (it's more of an addiction but she prefers obsession) and perfecting her "y'all" (just a northern girl living in the south).

Quick(ish) Review

Review - The Chameleon by Amelia Shea (Ghosttown Riders East #6)

Ouf, the sixth book in the Ghosttown Riders East series is a tough one because of the past trauma of the heroine. You’ve been warned. It's not shown on page, but the description is enough. This is a fake romance turns real trope, and I still enjoy this series because it's so romance-centric, and it's got some interesting teasers for future story in this biker soap opera. I liked Tracer and Cam together, they've got good chemistry, and I've grown to really like these guys. Well, except Con. He's still not a fave, though he does one good thing in this entry. The WTFery scale is in effect and it's a 4, all the usual content warnings apply about violence and assaults, physical/sexual, etc. Also, there is a subplot involving an older character who is ill (though not explicitly stated, looks like the big C).

The rating drags down because I just want an editor to clean this up! The grammar, misused words, just things that don't need to be there and that take a reader out of the story....or at least this reader. This is great potential, but those details matter.

Anybiker, I'm still invested in this series and I can't wait til the next one.

Wonderful story about a woman who's overcome a lot while living in the darkest parts of society. Emotional read with tons of action, Amelia does a fabulous job of reeling you in and not letting go until she's wrung out a couple of tears, lol. Racing through this series and loving every minute of it.

I just adore a good fake relationship troupe. Camille is a fantastic lead female. She’s tough, smart, takes no crap, and earns the loyalty of the toughest of the underworld. She has a horrible past that she hasn’t dealt with at all. Please be aware of triggers. There isn’t much detail around the events, but they are discussed and mentioned. Track is just plain yummy. He’s a tough, strong, quiet man and he keeps his private life fairly private. He also had a nasty childhood, but at least he had his blood brother Trick. He cannot help but fall for Camille, despite the impossibilities due to the nature of this deal between East and the Underground and because Camille is so entrenched in the Underground. Their chemistry is explosive and I couldn’t stop reading their story. Rogue, Trey, Oz, and now Nash intrigued me in prior books - but I wasn’t sure how much I liked any of them, especially Oz. After this book I want to know everything about them and I love them all despite their roles and behavior in the Underground.

This one was interesting because both Tracer and Cam were not well known. I liked how we got to know each of them better. As Cam's past came out my heart broke for her and I was glad that things ended as well as they did. I also lauded her for the way she went about using Lil's marker, 2 birds 1 stone, yet I kinda hated how her secret came out there for everyone and their brother to learn. I loved how this one ended, nice to see these two live happy and free.

This book was all I anticipated! However I feel the suspense peaked about 3/4’s in, which left me a little stranded.

The big players got more page time, which was good.

Loved the epilogue!

Camille Gwin owed Lil a marker for something that she has kept secret for a couple of years. Lil had recently gotten involved with the President of Ghosttown East MC and has pulled the marker. Camille holds a lot of secrets, her life depends it. She works for the Underground, a place that is anything but legal. Her plan to help Lil involves a pretend relationship with an East member, she has one she think would fit the part.

When Tracer meets Camille he thinks it is just a drunk chick, but the second time he thinks she is up to something. Quickly realizing she is The Chameleon, a woman who has been rumored to be ruthless and high up the chain in The Underground. East is not sure they want to be tied to Oz, who runs the Underground but getting the answers that have been long needed for a couple of members is a chance they need to take. However Tracer doesn't expect to fall for Camille, but the more he gets to know her the more he falls and Camille feels the same way, the only difference is that Tracer sees a future while Camille knows she is on borrowed time.

This was another fantastic book by this author. Each story is vastly different and this was a tear jerker for me. I was balling my eyes out.

3.5 Dark and Sweet Stars

I really enjoyed this dark romance. When you binge-read as series like this by the 4th book, you tend to begin to notice certain patterns and get a little jaded. I thought this picked up really well from the previous book and it was a delight getting to know Cam and Tracer. The premise is that Cam who’s deeply entrenched in “The Underground” is paying back a favour when she meets Tracer and enters into a fake relationship with him to deliver what his MC wants. But things get complicated when they develop deep feelings for each other, especially since Cam is hiding many devastating secrets.

This was really well-executed with a good amount of restraint shown in revealing multiple triggering topics around child abuse and sexual violence. That said, these topics remain triggering and are significant parts of the plot so reader discretion is advised. In this book, we also got to know some of the major players in “The Underground” a bit better and I hope we get another spin-off series off that because I’m intrigued by the idea of Oz and co being “humbled” by falling in love. I’m a little sad that I’ve caught up with the series now, but look forward to future releases.

So touching a story for Camille

This was a heart wrenching story to learn about Camille from the Underground. I am a big fan of Oz, Nash, Rogue, and Trey. Camille was a great surprise to find out that she was part of their team but throughout this story you find out the awful things (triggers) that happened to her before the age of twelve. Nash and Oz saved Camille from more bad times and her awful Uncle. Then there was Tracer and he is an amazing person and man. There was a deal made where Camille and Tracer are pretending to be in a relationship to help East and Con secure retaliation. However, the pretense didn’t last long because these two just effortlessly solidified into a real couple. It was so enjoyable to read because Tracer saw Camille and gave her the love, support, and balance that she needed. This story is heart wrenching and touching. Read On!

I've loved all the ghost town riders and east books so far. For some reason I could not connect with Tracer or Cam at all. The meet-cute in the previous book was perfect. Then when I started reading the book I could not fully grasp Cam's personality at all, it dragged and took me ages to get through. It wasn't until the last few chapters that I enjoyed it a bit more. Tracer was sweet and loyal but not much else going on. I wished they played up the family aspect of the Oz crew a bit more. Or at least told us her upbringing earlier so that it humanised him. It would have been cute to soo more Oz/Cam father daughter relationship. It would also help the angst of when what happened with Gilroy is revealed.

Awesome read

Cam and Tracers books is full of chemistry, heart clenching and steamy scenes.

Cam had lived in the underground for as long as she can remeber. Raised by Oz and his crew Cam is the best if the best, and is good at what she does and is loyal to a fault.

Tasked with forfilling her marker to lil, she didn't except to fall head over hills for the biker she is faking it with.

Tracer is only agreeing to "date" Cam because it is what is needed for East to get what they need. Cam is a means to an end, that is until he falls for the mysterious woman that has so many layers that he can't help but want to peel the back.

Continues to shine!

I used to say that all Amelia Shea's books were great stories between alpha males and the quirky but innocent women they found to love. The men continue to be alpha. The women continue to be quirky if not exactly innocent. It started with Gunnar and Lil - more quirky and sassy.

Loved this one - and loved the epilogue and final few chapters that found ways to continue the stories - after the enter-twining story ends. Every book by this author always finds ways to make me laugh, cry and have the feels and for this reason, I'll always read her books.

Solid addition to the series. Interesting dynamics involving East and the Underground. Hopefully the Underground characters will get their own series in the future. They are becoming more interesting than the remaining single East characters…

My only complaint is that there was a bit too much inner dialogue that bordered on the dramatic. I would have preferred more actual dialogue between characters rather than Cam’s thoughts about “this man”. Not sure why that phrase irked me, but it was used often enough to grate.

So good..

Think this might be my new favourite out of all my favourites... The storyline was awesome and it was great to see that Cam had and held such power and family in the underground. Tracer was perfect for her with having a similar childhood experience though Cams turned out to be truly aweful.. I loved getting to know Oz amazingly and all the others. Hoping Grain gets a small story with a happy ending and I definitely can't wait for the next book!!

WOW

This is a wonderful story where you will lose reality and enjoy this biker world. It’s a story involving the whole MC and the Underground personnel. Chameleon gets involved with Tracker on a scheme to get a meet with Oz. The reasons why are complicated. Along the way, love blossoms. There is lots of action, mystery, resolution, retribution, and secrets are revealed. Absolutely worth your time to read. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger. Highly recommend

If anyone deserved an HEA it was Camille. Her life had been sheer h€ll and she adapted just like a chameleon. I could not have picked a better man for her then Tracer. He had the patience to love her.

This series is just MC gold. It gives you so much. There’s a fabulous balance between relationships and club, plus you also get The Underground. I loved the fact that this book humanized Oz… kind of.

Read this series and due to the ongoing and evolving mystery, you need to read it in order.

This series is great. This book was slow going though, a lot of repeating how the underground world works and how theirs only one way out. Blah blah blah
The rest of the story was good if ya didn’t have the author repeating shit every chapter.
I did love how Oz, Rouge, Tray, Nash and her crew were finally shown in a different light. They do have hearts and feelings that you know are hidden they just never show it until Camille. She’s like a little sister to the big bad wolves.

Justice and some real surprises!

Finally Justice for East. Especially Con and Gunner and even more so for Cam. Loved Camille and how she just lived her life after such a tragic start. Surprises about Oz, Rogue and Tray. Intrigued with Nash and a few other new faces. Sad about Grain but ready to see what the rest of the guys brothers of East have to offer.

Another great book I could not put down!!!! Oh I have no idea how Amelia does it but each book she writes is a wonderful read and never lets me down. I just can't put the book down. My husband knows that when I get one of her books the world around me stops...It's up to him to cook dinner, answer the phones, do the dishes and make my lunch. I just love this woman and her books.

Amelia nails the fake daring trope

One of my favorite romance tropes is fake dating/fake marriage. Amelia Shea nails it in The Chameleon! Cam and Tracer's chemistry is sizzling hot! I was at the edge of my seat through the entire book. Amelia's books are the perfect blend of spice, romance, mystery and suspense. I'm already anxiously waiting for book 7!

The Chameleon (Ghosttown East book 6)

Tracer was part of East MC and agreed to participate as a fake boyfriend so that Chameleon and Con could get their revenge.
They both decided that they wanted a real relationship. Their are many different turns and mysteries to this story. I especially like that the underground and Oz was involved in this storyline.

Loved it!

Cam was such a surprise character. She was both kind and sort of evil. She is a very strong woman. It was great to see her bring out the best sides of Tracer who is a quiet unpretentious man. Together they are romantic and sexy. I am loving this entire series and I believe you will too.

Fantastic

This book hits you right in the feels. Cam has a horrible childhood from age 8 -12 when she is taken in by Oz and the Underground. She has worked for them ever since. What starts off as a job for them turns into love that is beautiful to see.

This book was everything I hoped it would be. I love Tracer and Cam is his perfect foil. She was a smart and powerful woman and I loved the role she played with both Oz and East. I am hoping that those underground bad boys get their own books.

No words are good enough

This book was more than just Tracer and Cam. It was Gunner, Con, Trini, Oz etc. What a story. A young girl saved by Oz. Cried like a baby for Con. The entire series is awesome. I hope it never ends. Can’t wait for the next book.
