JOHNSTONE COUNTRY. WHERE MEN LIVE BY THEIR WITS—OR DIE BY THEIR IGNORANCE.
The President has come to Deadwood—and his enemies have come out of the woodwork—in an action-packed tale of vengeance and justice from national bestselling authors William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone.
A HAIL OF BULLETS TO THE CHIEF
Deadwood, South Dakota. Miners flock there seeking fortunes, while cardsharps, bandits, and businessmen seek to deprive those who strike gold by means fair and foul. Legendary former lawman Seth Bullock plans to keep the peace by any means necessary—especially when his good friend, President Theodore Roosevelt, is expected in town to celebrate the anniversary of Deadwood’s founding.
Delayed in Washington, the President has sent his wife and children to the boomtown ahead of his arrival. But Ambrose Neill, a former New York City policeman jailed by Roosevelt for corruption, has kidnapped the President’s daughter. Backed by a gang of trigger-happy outlaws and supported by a ruthless senator, Neill plans to politically control the Commander-in-Chief before slaughtering him.
But what Neill and his cohorts don’t realize is that Roosevelt has gathered a deadly posse of rough riders including Bullock—and the legendary father-son gunfighters Frank and Conrad Morgan—who are more likely to bring the gang to justice dead than alive . . .

Liked this western, though it wasn't great, but having Teddy Roosevelt involved in it made it better. Plus Hunter Buchanon from the other Johnstone westerns made me purchase this. The Morgans are the other Johnstone western characters involved from other books, which I have not read.
The setting, mainly in the Black Hills, and the cast of characters, made this a decent read. Some of the villains as usual were typical outlaw, cardboard characters.
The President's kids are kidnapped by a gang who want revenge on Teddy from years past when he sent them to prison: several in the Dakota territory, and one later in New York City. There is a prelude before the main story that sets this up. Johnstone use's history and the words Teddy would use, like "Bully" in the narrative.
The gang of outlaws are helped by the former detective that Teddy arrested in New York, as well as more powerful person in the higher reaches of government.
The story flowed well. The resolution was quicker than I would have liked.

Johnstone's skillful characterization brings the protagonists to life, making them relatable and engaging. Overall, "Black Hills Blood Hunt" delivers a thrilling read that keeps readers hooked from beginning to end.
Admittedly, this is the first Western I’ve read, and I picked it somewhat at random, based on the synopsis which piqued my interest.
Right from the beginning, the author grabs your attention and keeps it with their storytelling. This is a true page-turner. The characters, who I’m sure are familiar to those who read other books in the family, are still introduced well to a novice like myself.
The story is one of revenge and adventure, good vs evil, and it weaves together several subplots very well. I am glad I pulled this book off the shelf and gave it shot. I read it basically cover to cover in two days.
24-66. Great adventure and great read. Lots of action, bad guys, good guys, and a bit of politics. I imagined one of the good guys as Biden, unfortunately Biden might have the heart but not the stamina. The really bad bad guy is the other one running in our current presidential race. I bet he would do what the really bad guy tried to do and a lot more. I borrowed this e-book from the Sacramento Public Library through the Libby app.
A fun read with Kid Morgan, the Last Gunfighter, Hunter Buchanan, and President Teddy Roosevelt. A read that probably never happened in reality but it probably could of especially with terrible politicians then as is now. Interesting I finished this story just as voting day is here today. Give this a shot and see what its like to read about our past hero's!
My first audiobook! Great story set in the beautiful and rugged Black Hills of South Dakota which my wife and I visited in September. Johnstone’s vivid descriptions brought back great memories and the narrator many voices brought the story to life!
I really enjoyed reading this book. Plenty of action. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I feel other readers will enjoy this book.so I have no problem recommending this book to everyone
This was interesting to me because it incorporated Teddy Roosevelt and his family as well as Smoke Jenson and his family with the Morgans. It was a good story that involved a revenge plot, adventure, and justice...the wild west way.
My first Johnstone book and certainly many more to come. His writing style is educational, fun and witty with plenty of good guy adventures. Highly recommend
First western and glad I picked this one! Packed with action from first chapter to last and didn’t meet a dull moment. I did feel there were a lot of characters which could get confusing but I definitely plan to read more of the Johnstone books!
Another good story J. A. that kept me entertained for a while. It might have happened, probably not. Maybe it's time for another trip to the Black Hills.
