Ally is back in the life of PJ Antonides for one thing only -- his signature on their divorce papers.
But arrogant Greek businessman PJ refuses to sign anything. He won't accept that Ally's no longer his wife. So when the smoldering attraction between them moves negotiations from his boardroom to his bedroom, PJ knows his forbidden bride is once again his, and ready for the taking ...
Anne McAllister has written nearly 70 romance novels for Tule Publishing and Harlequin Books.
She has won two RITA awards from the Romance Writers of America — for COWBOY PRIDE and THE STARDUST COWBOY — and has had nine other books which were RITA finalists.
Her books have also been finalists for the National Readers’ Choice Award. She was named Midwest Fiction Writers “Writer of the Year” and also received Romantic Times’ Career Achievement Award as “Series Author of the Year.”
But while the awards and sales are wonderful, Anne thinks the best part of writing is telling the story. With every new book she writes, she meets new characters – or gets to know old ones even better – and discovers what makes them and their relationships tick.
It’s the relationships that interest her most and the question about “where do you get your ideas?” has always astonished her as she has more ideas than she knows what to do with!
This is a second chance story with a long separation – ten years – and a beta hero.
H/h married in Hawaii when heroine was 18 and wanted to get her hands on a trust so she could go to art school against her father’s wishes. Hero, at 22, was a younger son in a Greek/American family and a surfer dude beach bum. He recognized the heroine’s strong need for independence and didn’t pursue her after their wonderful wedding night. (Heroine was a virgin)
Heroine took that to mean he didn’t care about her, so she went to California to pursue her studies.
The H/h meet five years later at the heroine’s gallery open. Hero has an art critic reporter with him. Heroine thinks they’re dating and is rude to the hero. Hero is not dating anyone and brought the art critic along to help the heroine.
Five years after that encounter, the story opens in New York when the hero’s secretary announces that Mrs. Antonides wants to see him. Hero goes through his entire family before he realizes it’s his long-lost wife. It’s a clever way for the author to get the reader up to speed on the series and to show just how separated the H/h are.
I thought the hero was some kind of player, as the heroine did, but you eventually discover his family thought he was gay because he never dated. When he told his family he was married and he was waiting for his wife to discover herself, it was the absolute truth.
Heroine doesn’t realizes this for 80% of the story – hence she hurts the hero a lot. She really is a mess – a guilty mess about her dad – and it’s only when she straightens out that relationship (and ditches her father-approved fiancé) that she tells the hero she loves him.
I was glad it was the heroine who spoke up first since the hero totally deserved to hear it first. His actions showed his deep regard, respect and understanding of her. He had a lot of self-confidence/trust in the universe to let her discover her feelings in her own time. This is not an alpha strength -but a beta strength. (Yes, betas can be strong) And it’s only a beta who could have cracked the hard shell the heroine had around her.
So, if you don’t mind a bit of role reversal and a hero who plays the long game, I think you’ll love this one. I totally believed that both the H/h were celibate during their separation – and that the separation was a necessary one.
I don't usually mention love scenes, but these two were so sweet (and desperate).
The heroine is Japanese/Chinese/Hawaiian – a nice a bit of diversity. Hero’s family is great and for once I wasn’t bored with the cast of thousands that comes at the end of a series. The author was skillful enough to draw each minor character convincingly. I also loved all the descriptions of art and their beautiful homes. Just an all around good story – but only if you like long separations and beta heroes.
An entertaining read. Romantic read with wonderful characters. Even during their 10 year separation it is implied that both hero and heroine were celibate. In fact hero's family thought he was gay because he didn't date lol
I just re-read this and I really liked it so no idea how it has a one star. I think it was the wrong Antonides maybe?!?
Greatest hero ever! He loved her and was celibate for ten years I think!! It never clarified it for either one of them but I want to believe he was. He was definitely too good for her. Loved his family and their interactions and especially his Grandmother. Just a feel good story. The end made me cry a little even. The heroine didn't start out that well but she grew on me. I didn't like how she hurt him. She was engaged to another man??!?? What was that about? He sounded like a wet fish just glad she saw the light.

this was a light, nice read; but definitely not gripping enough to make me want to read it in a few hours ( as I do with the ones I find really interesting). In fact, it took me about four days to finish it- hence the two stars. I liked the heroine though, especially the fact that she was of mixed parentage and was successful in her own right. The hero was Greek only because the trope is popular I guess. There was nothing particularly greek about him, and he sounded and acted like a regular American Joe throughout the book. His only connection to his roots seemed to be his surname and his Baklava making grandmother who liberally peppered her conversation with 'ne' - the Greek word for 'yes.' The love story in itself was ok, and the hero/heroine seemed to fall in love with each other and into each other's lives a little too easily (even though they'd been apart for a a decade). there was very little angst and it was simply a classic story of a couple who were simply waiting for the right time to find each other again.
All in all a sweet read, but probably not something I'll ever re-read.
Great couple. I read this novel almost 4 years ago but what I remembered there was some slow parts, I loved when they spent some days with his family and I learnt what baklava was :D 4.5 stars. Enjoy it!
PJ (or Peter as he's known in previous books in the series) is running the family company when he's visited by a woman claiming to be Mrs. Antonides. Turns out, his long lost wife of 10 years, Ally, has turned up with divorce papers. They married all those years ago so she could get her inheritance and independence from her father, and despite the one incredible night they shared together, both knew they were not ready for a real marriage. Ally had to find herself and PJ admitted that he had some growing up to do. But now that Ally is back for her divorce, PJ finds he's not ready to give her up. So he orchestrates things so she has to stay with him a little longer, surrounds her with his family and seduces her with all the benefits of being married to him. And Ally finds she really wants to. But she's made a promise, both to her father and a man who is waiting for her back in Hawaii.
This was rather well done. I usually don't like these sorts of stories because ultimately the years lost feel like this big obstacle between the couple and I feel like I have to blame someone for it. In this case, it really felt like the years they were separated were honestly for the best for both of them. I did get the sense that both of them had loved the other at the time, but neither was ready. So I didn't feel like the, "it was for the best" line in this story was a cop out. And maybe also because there wasn't a sense of betrayal from either of them so much. I didn't really like the "infidelity" aspect, since technically, Ally was cheating on Jon with her husband...did that make sense? I guess you could consider her relationship with Jon emotional infidelity, but I don't because she never really loved him...and she was celibate for her separation from PJ. I have no idea whether PJ was celibate...lots of clues seem to say that yes, he was. But one could interpret a few clues that he wasn't. I like to think that he was. But we don't get any confirmation of it. Also, the concept of love between these two was a healthy one. PJ actually comes to the realization that love is about making the other person happy, not getting what he wants or possessing her. And Ally is pretty good at recognizing that in him, which means that she understands it as well. Even after he leaves, she is confident that he loves her. But that was sort of strange though, how she had that confidence...especially in the circumstances that PJ left. It could just as easily been interpreted as him being peeved at being shut out and him just giving up and leaving.

This one was good, I really liked the hero. Hero was so selfless and just a great guy. I really hope and believe he was celibate during the 10 year separation, hero said "We're married. We took vows" heroine said "Oh, yes, right. And we've certainly kept them haven't we?" He replied "Speak for yourself, Al." So I definitely would like to believe that he was (the only thing that maybe suggest that he wasn't was in his inner monologue he recalled being married kept him from getting serious with anyone. I still believe he was celibate though). Heroine was also celibate and didn't sleep with her fiancee because she was still married to hero (I really wish heroine had let hero know that she hadn't slept with anyone else during the 10 years). I think that 10 years was entirely too long of a separation and even 7 years would have been a better length of time. Heroine I felt was a bit selfish and almost felt hero deserved better. I didn't like that there wasn't an epilogue. Np.

3.5 stars 10 y ago, PJ Antonides married Ally so she can get her inheritance and get away from her domineering father. They spent one night together and went their separate ways to spread their wings and find themselves. They never forget about that night or about each other. 10 y later, PJ is back to his family to run the family company. And Ally, has made a name of herself as a fabric artist and cloth designer, and has made peace with her father, and more important, has found a man she wants to marry. So she tracks PJ down and goes to see him to give him the divorce papers in person. Little does she know that she has actually opened a Pandora’s box of feelings and needs. One look at his wife and PJ knows what he wants. And it's not a divorce. I liked the Antonides family gathering, and PJ grandma. I liked revisiting old couples from previous books in the series.
As far as plot goes, it really should be 3.5 stars, but certainly more deserving of a 4 than a 3. The couple is actually very cute together. I'm not a fan of the love-triangle thing, but the focus is always on the main couple and I enjoyed their rediscovery of each other. They feel like they should have been together all this time and you really are pulling for them.
Probably more like 4.5 stars, but this one was really good. Definitely more modern and a little less angsty than my norm, but still a very well-done, romantic story. I was definitely happy when they got their happily ever after.
Ally came to find her long lost husband. She wanted a divorce because she wanted to get married to her fiance, Jon and give a grandchildren to her ailing dad. They got married 10 years ago and had a wedding night. 5 yeara later when he saw her, she was insecure and jealous of his date. He refused to sign the divorce paper. Asked her for a dinner date where he cooked. His sister came and guilted her to come to Sunday’s family occasion. She agreed. She had fun there but hurt him when she said no more kissing. They slept together and the next day there was news about her father’s heart attack. Peter accompanied her back to Hawaii, made the sacrifice of backing out. Signed the divorce paper and mailed it to her. She decided to tell her father that she loves Peter and will not marry Jon. She had to track him down at Kaui and HEA.

This is one of those category romance novels that kind of wedged some tropes in to get published. PJ Antonides is neither particularly arrogant nor particularly Greek; he's a reformed Hawaii beach bum who's taken a job in the family business in New York and has a close-knit loving family that happens to be Greek. He and his wife have to work out some issues before they can get back together. It's very sweet and nothing like the back cover copy indicated.
I am absolutly in love with this book. From the beginning it held me captive. I loved how it wasn't rushed and the story flowed. The ending brought tears to my eyes! Great book 10/10 would recommend book and author.
A story of PJ and Ally. When they were young, they married so that Ally could get an inheritance from her family and gain her freedom. Then 10 years later, Ally comes to PJ to get a divorce. PJ refuses and wants Ally to give their "marriage" a chance.
They got married ten years ago when she needed help. Now she goes to him to ask for a divorce. But he is not willing. He wants to see if they can make the marriage work. But when they relive the past will the hurt be there?
while the title is a wee bit misleading, I really enjoyed this one! I was expecting a far different story based on the flavour text, and I am very happy with what I got. very. recommend.
