The bodyguard must keep his head in the game and his heart locked up. He may be a Daddy but there’s no way he can take this boy in hand. Not if he wants to remain breathing.

When you’re a bodyguard who comes with a brutal reputation for taking dangerous assignments and getting the job done—whatever the cost—you know there’s a high chance you won’t make it out alive.
But when Leon is assigned to protect Domenico, known as the Prince of Darkness, the spoiled heir to the Acierno family, he knows the assignment’s probably going to end with a bullet to the back of his head. Either by the family’s enemies or his employer.
It’s bad enough that Nico’s father controls the city with an iron fist. But there’s an added complication. The young prince may look like an angel but he’s feisty, out of control, and hunting for a Daddy to put him over his lap.
Nico may be the boy Leon longs to take to his heart, but the bodyguard can’t afford to get involved with the beautiful young man. However the Prince of Darkness isn’t used to the word, no.

Dark Heart is the first book in the Darker Daddy Bodyguards series, a spin-off from Sue Brown's bestselling Biker Daddy Bodyguards. All new. Much darker.

4.5 “You’re mine. I won’t let anything happen to you” stars

“Why should I be modest when I’ve got the most beautiful boy in the world in my arms?”

I stayed up until 5 am to read this book because I just could not put it down, I just was so invested.

Oh my god did this book work for me. It’s been an entire month of me being in a reading slump where I could barely get into any books but this book was the outlier, I was just so into it.

Look, i’m a simple person, you tell me that a book has daddy kink and that the daddy is a bodyguard and that the boy is part of an important mafia family and I will read it. I love these tropes, so much and I really loved how they came together in this book.

Brief summary
Leon is a bodyguard who’s on leave because he got hurt on the job. Then one day someone from a local mafia gang show up at his house to recruit him for a job. The leader of that gang needs Leon to guard his son, Nico, whom has a hit put against him. Turns out that Nico is a boy who’s looking for a daddy and Leon is the perfect man for the job, and they fall in love.

First, Nico is a brat and didn’t want to obey to what Leon told him to do and I loved how Leon was super growly with him and made him obey him no matter what. Leon wasn’t very strict, he just wanted to be sure that Nico got everything he wanted and for that he needed Nico to follow his queues. And Nico loved it when Leon disciplined him, which is why Nico was a brat to Leon so Leon would discipline him. I liked how Leon handled Nico when he was a brat and how he gave him everything Nico was looking for by being a brat, meaning discipline and someone who will love him no matter what, that just really worked tor me. That just really worked for me.

Second, A lot of the book was Nico acting like a brat and Leon not giving in to him and being strict with him and they had a lot of bantering scenes that way and those just really worked for me. I just loved how much chemistry there was in all of their exchanges. I just feel all of their chemistry pouring out of the pages everytime they bantered with each other.

“You call me Trasker or Leon. You’ll do as you’re told, or you’ll end up over my knee.” […]
“Oooh, Daddy, you wanna spank my butt? Am I a naughty, naughty boy?”
“You don’t get to call me Daddy. You haven’t earned it, Domenico.”

Third, my favourite kind of daddies in books are the super growly daddies who make sure that their boys obey them, who are always there to take care of their boys and who are super possessive and that was the case for Leon and his character just really worked for me. Leon was everything I want a daddy in a book to be and his character was just so perfect to me.

Fourth, I absolutely love posessiveness in books. And Leon was so possessive of Nico and that just really worked for me. This book had so many scenes of Leon being super possessive and I loved each and every one of them.

Fifth, the relationship between Nico and Leon was just so sweet and I loved every minutes of it. I loved how Leon was always taking care of Nico. Nico wasn’t used to having someone take care of him and was always shocked and in aw when Leon took care of him and it just made it even sweeter that Leon always did everything to take care of Nico.

Sixth, a lot of times in books with mafia families I feel like there isn’t enough talk about the mafia part but it wasn’t this case for this book at all. I like how these was so many talks about the mafia and how the family ran and did their business, that was just really enjoyable to read about and I really liked it.

Seventh, I really enjoyed the ratio of the supsense side plot to romance in this book. I liked that the suspense side plot was important had a lot of book pages dedicated to it but never too many. There was still plenty of pages dedicated to the romance and more than enough pages for me to see why Leon and Nico were meant to be together. I thought that there was a perfect ratio of both suspense and romance in this book.

I cannot tell you how excited I am about the next book in this series, I just need that story so badly.

I just had the best time reading this book and I absolutely loved it. I haven’t been this engrossed in a book in a so long, this book just really worked for me

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion

This could have been a good book. The attempt is there, but unfortunately it falls short of its possibilities. Ultimately, it is the plot, which is sloppy, that makes it only a halfway good book.
The idea and characters are very good, it's easy to get into and not bored. The suspense is well built and rises steadily, but then it gets sloppy.
As soon as Leon and Nico move to the safe house, important elements are missing and the plot is rushed.
As for the Daddy/boy-kink. Yes, we get a little insight into the lifestyle, but unfortunately only a little. That's exactly where the book left out too much.
There is only one punishment scene and while there is talk of Leon and Nico needing to talk, it is completely missing ... no safe words, no talk about what they expect from each other or how far they want to go with the kink.
It's such a shame, there are so many great things in this book.

Even though Leon hadn’t climaxed, he felt satisfied to his bones, knowing he’d given his boy pleasure. He didn’t feel the need to come. It could wait until they were well away from here. 🤩

“I’ve never kissed anyone like you. You make me want to swallow you whole.” 😍😳😍

It is because of such sentences that I read such books, pity I wasted time with the rest.

Mafia Bodyguard
2 Bored To Death Stars ⭐️

This book lied. It appeared to be a dark romance set in a dark world and because it was a daddy/boy theme, I expected lots of sex and hotness. Instead, it was mafia lite with a boring plot and the weakest kink and sex scenes ever. I hated the instalove, the writing style didn’t work for me and I wasn’t a fan of either main character. Why I didn’t DNF this is beyond me. I just kept thinking something better was going to happen since there is a hit out on the boy but it was all very predictable and boring. Yawn 🥱

Two stars because I somehow finished it and the sex scene at 96% was what I wanted the entire book so somehow that redeemed this enough for me to not 1 star it. Still disliked it though. 😂😂

I really don't have much to say about this one other than it took me weeks to finish. I started it and got about 80% in and lost interest. Leon came across as bland to me. I literally read his voice monotone. Oh well...

I might be interested in the brother's book. We shall see...

When the bodyguard acts territorial to protect his boy, plus it's mob-related, that's ok for me.
The only problem? Too short

A cliched, OTT take on a bratty Mafia heir and the alpha bodyguard with a nurturing side who takes him in hand. I found it entertaining, but nothing memorable.

— Mafia romance
— mob heir/bodyguard
— daddy kink
— age gap
— forced proximity
— hurt/comfort

Dang, this is a book in the category ‘I can’t stop reading until I’m finished’. Awesome story!

Leon is a bodyguard, he has no choice but to take the job to keep safe the heir of a mafia family.
Domenico is one half of a twin, they couldn’t be more different. Where you can find Paolo besides his father, Domenico is a brat, disappearing every night, ends up in a club and then in some guy’s bed, to be thrown out asap.

With Leon as his strict bodyguard, everything changes for Nico. The man is all muscled, strong, and a top alpha. Escape seems impossible, there is no room other than to obey. Nico tries his hardest but has to submit, the man is a hardheaded utterly protective bodyguard with strong Daddy vibes, if only Nico needed one. Ha!

Nico is in life-threatening danger, with all the armed muscles around the family, Leon seems to be the only one to keep him safe.

There’s a lot of reprimanding and Leon is busy keeping Nico alive, that’s why it took Leon a while to properly love on his boy, but guys, when he finally did, hot! The author did a great job describing their delicious encounters.

It was a top entertaining read, I loved every bit of it, all the safety network business, the danger, the professional attitude of Leon and CPR, the mafia family, how Leon and Nico got closer.
I was thrilled how both Leon and Nico were characterized. The development was just enough for this story, even though it wasn’t always clear for me, who or why this all happened. I loved the main part about the bodyguard Daddy keeping the heir slash his boy safe at all costs.
The danger was palpable, the tension between the men even more. The delicious encounters are hot.
I loved to meet the guys for The Biker Bodyguard series again, awesome!
Yes, it was everything I wanted from a bodyguard story, intense characters, a lot of protective acts, emotional and hot. On top of that a Daddy boy dynamic!! I ask you, what do you need more? Right!

3.5/5. Highlights may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Content Warnings for book: Gun violence, blood, fighting, kidnapping, mention of underage sex

Kink: Daddy kink, somnophilia

Dark Heart by Sue Brown is a dark-lite romance between the son of a Mafia Don and a bodyguard who didn't really have a choice in who his charge was. Introduce some daddy kink, and you get this fun action-movie romp ride.

So, I did read some of the Biker Daddy Bodyguards and the writing wasn't the best in those, in my experience, but I can say there was lots of improvement in this one. From the sex scenes to the relationship dialogue between the two, I actually really enjoyed this book. Nico and Leon are both strong characters, and getting the grump and the brat is such a good trope. I love a bodyguard who ends up being a brat tamer and a Daddy, and how Leon realized he was here to truly protect Nico -- even from himself.

The dynamic between them isn't super intense but totally works. Nico's brat doesn't magically go away, but he also finds sweet submission too when he is finally allowed to be vulnerable with himself and Leon. Nico is a very powerful person so it isn't something he can do lightly, but that is why Leon being there for him is so important, so he has someone to rely on when he's dealing with the dark shit. The sex scenes were hot, though I do wish they were a tad more detailed.

We see cameos from the CDR/other MCs from the previous series, but they didn't overpower the narrative and so I don't find their books to be required reading. I liked how they ribbed Leon and the sort of connections it is clear they have.

Criticisms wise: I love a good mafia book and I LOVE that this isn't a complete "mafia but good" type of storyline. Nico does have aspirations to be more legit, but it isn't something sudden and 'no bad bone in my body' type situation. However, I didn't understand the mafia suspense plot's ending (won't spoil), I'm still sorta confused. Hopefully Pablo's book will explain what we didn't get here. I find the Prince of Darkness thing a tad cringey. IDK. Not my favorite thing with epithets like that for characters. There were some editing issues, but not tons it detracted from the book.

The biggest thing is... they knew each other for 2 days and fell in love. YES. Instalove is fine and good and I read it. I didn't expect this to be slow by any means. It had an "action movie” feel in that respect. However, with all that did happen, I feel it would be more valuable to have just a feeeew more days paced in all of this before we got to our grand finale.

Other than that though -- this was such a fun romp. Give it a go!

So, I confess that I read this book almost exclusively because of the sheer ridiculousness of the idea that there *were* the Biker Daddy Bodyguards (WHO CALL THEMSELVES THAT TO EACH OTHER), and now, to make things even more absurd, our friend Leon is the inaugural Darker Daddy Bodyguards.

The book also has the truly absurd property of Ms. Brown's books that the characters seem to survive injuries that would result in normal people being unable to get out of bed for a few weeks with only minor negative consequences. Previously, I've wondered if she just mistook the emergency room for a convenience store, but in this book, the characters don't even go to the ER. Pull quote: "Leon wasn’t sure he could take another flying leap from a moving vehicle though.” In practice, he recovered alarmingly quickly.

Otherwise, there's dual-POV insta-love, lots of urgent tropes of the genre [oh, look! Nico suddenly becomes monogamous when he finds his daddy (er, sorry, Daddy with a capital D!); a daddy-boy club so that Nico can have late-night dancing, but also playdates; endless weird sex writing; smotheringly affectionate sex]. And sentences that, like, are they deliberate self-parody? Or does Ms. Brown really feel like this is the way one needs to write? I can't, honestly, tell. Example: "But Nico was ready, and his balls were blue. The color of Leon’s eyes blue." Or: "He hadn’t found the one, his Daddy. The man who would take him in hand and make him submit, mind, body, and soul."

In practice, this is a book that I feel I've read 1357 times, but with slightly different parameters, more murders, and more ridiculousness. It's clear that this is many people's cup of tea. My partner and I? We'll be over in the corner, giggling back and forth: "Biker Daddy Bodyguards." "Darker Daddy Bodyguards." "Biker Daddy Bodyguards." And so on.

idk about this one. to me, it was weird af!😂
the fact that 11 chapters were in the span of 2 days in the story, and they were already head over heels for each other didn't sit right with me. I find it ridiculous!
the characters were okay.
the plot was okay.
I cringed too many times to count though, maybe it was just not for me.
am I gonna read the second book though? yes, cause I'd love to know Paolo more.

Wasn’t bad but wasn’t anything special either. Kinda sloppy but still readable an easy read.
The sexual tension was like foreplay the whole entire book, but like one or 2 skimpy sex scenes.

Not a bad read. Pretty entertaining, strong Daddy/boy trope, with a little mafia thrown in. It’s not a horribly dark book – yeah, there’s a death or two and some gunshots – but generally, it’s a fairly casual book, leaning more heavily on the bodyguard identity than the mafia one.

I really enjoyed the fact that the book was so straightforward. There were no “but I can’t because of xyz” or harping over why the two MCs couldn’t do something or another. The story flowed easily, and dove right into the developing relationship of the MCs in a fairly chaotic environment. The pace did rocket forward unexpectedly in spots, which might make you want to reread a paragraph or two to see if you missed something, but generally, it reads well and will keep you entertained.

Could it have been better? Yeah. I think this author’s prior series, the Daddy Bikers (of which this is a spinoff), was more well thought out and planned, but if you enjoyed that series, you’ll definitely enjoy this book.

Nico is the son of a Mafia boss and there's been a hit made on his life. Leon is forcefully hired to protect Nico. While protecting Nico, the two of them form a Daddy/Boy relationship.
This book is fast paced. It takes place over to the course of about a week. There is low angst, insta-love, and HEA.
Personally I would have enjoyed more time for the characters to fall for each other and to learn more about Nico and his place in the Mafia and learn more about Leon prior to his employment as Nico's bodyguard.

Leon got pulled into quite the pickle but protecting Nico was the best thing he has ever done. There is sooo much familial drama because Nico’s dad is quite stubborn about how the family should run and has helped put a wedge between Nico and his brother. Nico and Leon were the perfect compliment to each other and once the threat to Nico’s life was eliminated they were able to start building a life together while learning to run the family.

This was enjoyable though not as much as I'd hoped. It sounded like a great fit for me- dark, dangerous, with a bratty boy and protective Daddy, but it was actually pretty tame. And it felt very rushed, especially the abrupt ending that led to Nico making a seemingly out of character choice. That being said I really want to read Paolo's story that's coming up next. I love a good villain redemption story.

Colorless Not Dark

I never got into this book though I really tried. Not the story, not the characters, not the sex, just nothing. The story was ludicrous the ' Mafia Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight ' puhleese. Then the MC's were devoid of any depth and the insta-attraction was not believable. The other characters were paint by numbers Mafia or people from a related series. The book's description promised that it was Dark in fact Darker than the other series which thankfully I now won't be reading. If you think traditional fairy tales are dark then maybe this is for you, me not so much. Finally the sex, wait for it...Boring vanilla. Did I write boring? Oops I meant very boring extraordinarily boring. Yawn, excuse me where was I ? Oh yeah this Darker Book, maybe a splash of color would help? Some blood red, blinding white, hell fire blue with scorching yellow and orange, you get the picture. Something to bring out the Dark.

Leon Trasker is a bodyguard with a reputation, and he is used to do dangerous jobs.
But this time every move could be the last one.

He should have listened to his friends.
He shouldn't have switched off the phone.
And he shouldn’t trust anyone.

In order to protect his family's life, he must save the life of the mafia boss' firstborn.

From the moment Leon meets Domenico Acierno for the first time, there is spark between the grumpy, serious bodyguard and the bratty young heir to a mafia family.
But how bratty is Nico really?

Despite pretending to be the independent, wild young man who doesn't care about anything in the world, Nico knows he will never escape his family. All he thinks he can do is live his days however he wants and show the world where he's from, but underneath the surface he longs to be a boy and find his daddy.

But can he trust this man who is not only muscle but also smart and who pushes all his buttons?
And will there be enough time to discover before the hitman succeeds?

Nico tries to convince Leon to make him his, but the bodyguard insists he's just doing his job and can't let his emotions get the better of him. Although, all he really wants to do is hold the beautiful boy in his arms and never let him go.
But feelings will make them both weak, and weakness can be deadly when Nico is constantly at risk of being killed.

The story unfolds very quickly and from the start there is hardly a moment of breathing.

The two men are constantly surrounded by dangers, and no one can tell who friend is and who is foe.

Can they trust Nico's family, his twin brother or his father?
What about the rest of the Acierno clan?
And will they both live long enough to find out if the feelings they have for each other are worth fighting for?

Sue Brown’s DARK HEART is the first darker book in the Biker Daddy Bodyguards series.
Since every book has their own couples it’s not exactly necessary to read the first four books before this one, but I would highly recommend doing so at any point, now or later. I hope you’ll like them as much as I did and bonus, will understand much more how the persons are linked to each other.

And Sue Brown's Angels Enterprises series is also part of this world, so a lot of enjoyable reading to looking forward to.

Dark Daddy Bodyguard

This is a spinoff series of the Biker Daddy Bodyguards and it did not disappoint. Nico is the gay twin son of the ruthless Acierno Mafia family. Known as The Prince of Darkness and spoiled heir, he manages to give the slip to his bodyguards. He has managed to survive two attempts on his life but continues to go clubbing in search of a Daddy who will take him in hand. Leon is a bodyguard who is forced to protect Nico when his family is threatened at gunpoint and two of Nico's bodyguards are killed trying to protect him. Nico wants Leon to be his Daddy and Leon would like to but he fears for his family and his own life. But as the attempts on Nico's life ramp up, Leon can't help but become more protective of Nico and wants to punish him like a Daddy should. They finally get their chance to explore their relationship when Leon takes Nico to a safe house. They get their HEA but they're not necessarily out of the woods yet which leads to the next book with the search for Nico's twin brother. This is a great start to the series and I can't wait to read the next book. I'm recommending both series as the biker bodyguards from the first series crossover into this one as they helped protect Leon and Nico in this book.

Dark Heart is the first in a new series of MM romances / thrillers. It involves Leon, a bodyguard for hire and a daddy, and Nico, the troublesome son of a mafia don Leon is coerced into protecting. The book also involves a lot of the characters from the Biker Daddy Bodyguard sequence.

Nico is on someone’s hitlist and has survived two attempts on his life although his bodyguards have not fared well so far. Leon’s work is made more difficult by Nico’s willful nature and his family’s deadly interference. Let’s not forget this is also a romance with a daddy and boy kink to the forefront so Leon and Nico are going to hit it off in a big way.

This is an enjoyable read with two likeable main characters who are almost out of their depth due to what is going on in the background. There may not be too many surprises but it has some dark moments and a few light ones. I’m sure the two lovers are going to reappear in some form in the next in the sequence as there are some loose ends to tie up. That family of Nico’s is going to be trouble in the future. I just hope they get what they deserve.

Daddy Leon is given the responsibility to guard Domenico (Prince of Darkness) who is the spoiled heir to the Acierno family. The chances are he will end this with a bullet to the back of his head either from another member of the family or one of their enemies. Nico's father controls the city with an iron fist however Nico might look like an angel but he is feisty, out of control and looking for a Daddy to put him over his lap. Nico may be the boy Leon longs to take to his heart, but the bodyguard can’t afford to get involved with the beautiful young man. However, the Prince of Darkness isn’t used to the word, no.

I really enjoyed this story with the mafia family dynamics, the petulant boy who just wants to push boundaries until he can find a Daddy to care for him, and Leon doing his best to protect Nico's life as well as those of his own family. It was great to see Leon doing the standard bodyguard things along with chasing after his errant charge and using the services of the Biker Daddy Bodyguards to help him. A surprise ending but it was lovely too. Easy to read and understand. Contains mature content including BDSM behaviours of the DDLB variety.

Dark Heart by author Sue Brown is the first book in the Darker Daddy Bodyguards series. This story is told in dual POV and it really fits this storyline. This is a dark book in some places, and very light in others. I loved that. I love a book that keeps me guessing but has strong emotions and this one is very much that.
Leon: he is a bodyguard with a very special skillset. He is not a man who likes to be told what to do. When the mob “hires” him to protect the youngest son of the Don, he would like to say no. The Don has his sister and her son. They die if he doesn’t do this job. So reluctantly he does the job.
Hard working man, with a huge heart. He is a Daddy who loves to protect and nurture his boy. I loved that he doesn’t take crap from anyone but still has a heart that shines through the pages.
Nico: He has many layers to him. He is vulnerable yet bratty all at the same time. I felt like he needs to be Leon’s boy as much as he come to love Leon. Leon grounds Nico so he can be himself.
Overall, this is a great introduction to this series and I cannot wait for more to come. I love a gritty story that can make me fall in love and this one is that in spades.
