I can’t believe the writers of this arc sat down and were like “okay, we’re losing popularity and we need something to drag young readers back in. Who has ideas?” And someone genuinely had to say “why don’t we bring back Squirrelflights throwaway psycho ex boyfriend and have his evil ghost possess her current husband’s body?” And everyone on the team had to collectively agree that this was a good idea for the new arc.

The story was completely fanservice driven, the series has gotten to a longevity that guarantees it will just keep going down the “Marvel” route, throwing in countless references, callbacks and dog whistles to fans because they can’t bring themselves to actually write a substantial story or characters. The best part of this arc was when they killed off Bristlefrost at the end, although I admittedly didn’t feel much emotionally towards it because the writers refused to develop her in any meaningful way, it was interesting because of the pure shock I felt at a warrior cats character ACTUALLY being killed off (without any noncommittal Starclan excuses). Other than that this was dogshit do not read it

Lost Stars - Finished 12/27/2025

This is the beginning of Bramblestar's story leading to his death. It is both Shadowpaw and Rootpaw who can see there is something off with the ThunderClan leader. StarClan is out of touch with them and it is not discovered as to why just yet. It could be a bit because the Moonpool is frozen. It could be because StarClan feels all cats do not follow the code, thus the title of this arc, The Broken Code. it could be a bit of both. It is Shadowpaw who discovers it first as it seems StarClan has chosen him to send messages, or something is sending him messages. It really hasn't been shown who is messaging Shadowpaw just yet. Tree, too, seems that he can see that something is off and strange with Bramblestar. On page 54 Shadowpaw has a vision that Bramblestar had some other cat on the ground. He learns that he is fighting with Tigerstar. Page 81 a mysterious voice woke Shadowpaw from his sleep telling him he must return to the Moonpool. Page 84 Shadowpaw is at the Moonpool and some voice keeps repeating there is a darkness in the Clans that must be driven out. Rootpaw is embarrassed of his father Tree because he is different. He wants to be normal but what he doesn't understand is Tree's difference is what makes him special, and it makes Rootpaw special too. Being the same is boring. Different is better. Page 128 Rootpaw visiting the ThunderClan camp noticed some kind of dark shadow was hanging over Bramblestar. Shadowpaw also saw a vision of multiple cats who were codebreakers, including his own mother. Chapter 13 page 148 a mysterious voice tells Shadowpaw the Clans have forgotten the code. It has been broken time and time again, and because of the codebreakers, every Clan must pay a price. They must suffer. He saw flashes of cats, Twigbranch, Lionblaze, Crowfeather, Squirrelflight, Mothwing, Jayfeather and even his own mother. As time goes on and still no word from StarClan, or at least all the medicine cats believe there is no sign or message because why would they send messages to a ShadowClan apprentice. Chapter 17 The four clans decided to go to the moonpool and try to break the ice without ShadowClan included. Chapter 20 page 227 Tigerstar is angry when he learns the rest of the Clans had done this and wanted to close the borders. Immediately Shadowpaw receives images of the lake being on fire. This has to be a clear message of Tigerstar possibly trying to close his borders. StarClan does not want this. Bristlepaw who is now Bristlefrost is another key character in this book. She seems to be a strong female cat who is going to have more adventures in the next book. She leads a patrol even as an apprentice to ThunderClan after she had saved Rootpaw from the lake almost about to drown. In the end, Rootpaw is walking out in the territory and sees what he thought is Bramblestar, only to learn that he can see through him. He is running toward Rootpaw asking for him to help him, pleading for him to help him. But Rootpaw is too scared and runs away.

The Silent Thaw: Started 12/28/2025 - 01/02/2026

It took forever for Rootpaw to tell some cat finally about how he can see Bramblestar's ghost. He isn't as brave as I would hope he is as he hides behind his father, embarrassed of his gift because god forbid he is different and has to worry about what other cats will think. They all do think Tree is odd but they have grown to also accept him for who he is and the gift he shares of seeing dead cats. Tree is very brave, knowing that he doesn't fully believe in the Clan ways, but still respects them and only wants the same respect in return. Bristlefrost has grown as well. She at first wants to please too much and because of this, is partially blind to what is really happening since at first she wanted to be Bramblestar's lap dog. She does finally learn that her pleasing led her to be blind as she see's Bumblestripe and Berryheart doing the same as she once did. In chapter 20 Bramblestar decides to make Berryheart his new deputy as Berryheart convinced him to make him his deputy since Bramblestar was his mentor and he his apprentice. And this is because suddenly he exiles Squirrelflight for her code breaking. He also knew she lied about going to the horseplace as he had sent Bumblestripe to spy on her. I guess I should say Imposter Bramblestar is very concerned about Squirrelflight as he sends Bristlefrost on a special mission to make sure she has left the Clan territories. Only Bristlefrost does run into Rootpaw, Tree and Puddleshine as well as Shadowsight and learns that Squirrelflight has asked for sanctuary in ShadowClan. Tigerstar agreed mostly after Squirrelflight, Rootpaw and Dovewing reminded him that Bramblestar took him in for sanctuary during the Dark Forest times. Squirrelflight, Tree and Rootpaw did convince ShadowClan that Bramblestar is an imposter and now trying to form a plan on how to get the imposter out and the real Bramblestar returned to his body. Tree also teaches Rootpaw how to make his apparition appear to show everyone the real Bramblestar. When he does appear he tells all of ShadowClan the same he has been telling Rootpaw. Now the patrol of Tree, Shadowsight, Puddleshine and Rootpaw are on their way to other medicine cats to tell them of the news they have learned. Bristlefrost is also in fear that Bramblestar the imposter might know of their secret meeting and is toying with her and the others that also attended this secret meeting. Shadowsight knows that it was not StarClan who was sending him these messages but the very imposter that overtook Bramblestar's body.

Veil of Shadows: Started 01/02/2026 - 01/17/2026

The ending of course leaves a cliff hanger. Squirrelflight has somehow figured out who has taken over Bramblestar's body. How did she figure it out? By what he said, I came back for you. Mistystar even after all that has happened, at the Gathering still decides to exile Icewing and Harelight because they chose to fight with the rebels for ShadowClan against Bramblestar. They chose what they felt was right in their hearts and they were right. Yes, they did disregard Mistystar's orders to fight with Bramblestar, but this is where a good leader would be accountable for her wrong decision that she was wrong, fighting for the wrong Clan. She is not owning her mistake and punishing two warriors when she should still punish them if she really feels the need to, but not to exile them. She needs to admit she was wrong. Leaders make mistakes too, not just the subordinates. Tigerstar takes them in and I think that is a honorable thing to do. This is not the first time Mistystar has done something that I strongly disagree with her decisions and behaviors. Shadowsight kills himself in hopes of Puddleshine bringing him back just so he could become a spirit cat again but ends up in the Dark Forest to only discover StarClan in some type of deep hole thicket where they all seemed trapped. How did they get there? Did the imposter Bramblestar do all this himself or did he have help? Where is his help if he did have help? If he did have help how did they not want to take over Harestar when he died in the battle with Bramblestar imposter? Were they not able to. I also bet that since Squirrelflight at first was spending so much time with the imposter Bramblestar, that she will end up being pregnant with kits. She desperately wanted to be a mother again and I think that will be the next drama series of whether the kits are really Bramblestar's or the imposters? Squirrelflight sort of gets what she wants, her dream of becoming a leader in the absence of the real Bramblestar. The Clans all chose her to temporarily lead until they resolve where the real Bramblestar is and return him to his body. Why isn't imposter Bramblestar not upset that Squirrelflight lied about her death and Bristlefrost for that matter who helped staged her death? Rootpaw becomes Rootspring and his sister becomes a warrior too and becomes Needleclaw. I noticed Leafstar only named them based off their mentors which Rootspring' s mentor was Dewspring and Needlepaw's mentor was Reedclaw. Not very thoughtful there. At the last Gathering in this book Rootspring see's all the dead cats from the last battle sitting around the edges and doesn't speak to them. I wonder why they too, did not try to speak to Rootspring to tell him why they have not gone to StarClan. Many cats died in this book from Stemleaf to many others.

Darkness Within: 01/17/2026 -01/25/2026

Squirrelflight comes up with a plan to trick the imposter to reveal who he really is since at the end of the last book she was more than sure who he was living inside of Bramblestar. I am still not all the way certain how she figured it out that it was Ashur based on the only fact that she chose Bramblestar over him. Ashfur admits it is him. Ashfur does say he did it for her on page 33 in Chapter 2. He has also done something to block StarClan from getting through as well as any cat that dies cannot go to StarClan. Ashfur has done something to take all of the spirit cats over but I am not sure how one cat can do this against so many. In the end of this book he shows Shadowsight how he can make other spirit cats appear through him such as Spiresight. He even had Bramblestar appear through him. All the leaders at the end decided it was time to kill Bramblestar's body. Shadowsight sees him escape and somehow he knows that Squirrelflight is at the Moonpool unless he was going there for entirely different reason and discovered she was there and it ended up working out for him. He takes her into the Moonpool water and they disappear. Shadowsight tried several times to follow but was not able. They also strip Shadowsight from being a full medicine cat and demotes him to being an apprentice again, he gets to keep his full medicine cat name. I don't believe that was fair that they demote him since he was tricked by Ashfur. I am surprised Tigerstar agreed with Mothwing who was once a RiverClan medicine cat who decided not to return to RiverClan until Mistystar allows the other two of her Clanmates, Icewing & Harelight to return instead of sending them into exile. The sisters return to try to help them out and search for Bramblestar. Spotfur is expecting kits and they are Stemleaf's. Bristlefrost and Rootspring admit they do love one another but their loyalties are to their own Clans and both struggle deeply with the the fact that they understand each does not want to leave their Clan but wish they could still be together. They even go on an adventure together to find the Sisters and bring them back to the Clan's where they are only allowed on SkyClan's land. Needleclaw and Spotfur were with them. I hope we find out where and how Ashfur is doing what he is doing and look forward to him being defeated. I only wonder which cat finally defeats him. Will StarClan also return because it does seem Ashfur was speaking truth that StarClan is very dissatisfied on how all the cats keep breaking the codes. But as time goes on I've said it many times, the codes need to change, too. It saddened me to learn that ThunderClan is going through the struggle and to make matters worse, cats decide to leave them to go wander and think. Among those cats, Graystripe is one of them. One who told Squirrelflight he would stand behind her and support her. Graystripe left with Flipclaw, Snaptooth, Thornclaw and Flywhisker.

The Place of No Stars: 01/25/2026 - 02/07/2026

Flipclaw returned in the very beginning of this book. None of the other cats had returned, except for Thornclaw who returned within in a quarter moon. Realizing alone he had faced many dangers and wanted to rather face dangers with his Clan by his side. He came to the conclusion that ThunderClan is the right place for him. While on his wander, he told his Clanmates how him and Graystripe had gone to visit the Tribe of Rushing Waters. He had become friends with Graystripe's son, Stormfur and became good friends with Stormfur's son, Feather of Flying Hawk who had taught him how the mountain cats hunt. Then a whole bunch of rocks fell on him and injured his leg. Stoneteller healed his injury. When they decided to leave the Tribe of Rushing Water, Graystripe had decided to return to the old forest territories. He wanted to see if he could contact StarClan at the old Moonstone which we find out he was not able to. Flywhisker and Snaptooth decided to try lives as kittypets. On his way back to ThunderClan he decided to try and find them and ended up located them living with a Twoleg. When Lionblaze returned from hunting and saw Flipclaw and not his other two kits, it seemed he had more pressing matters on his mind to ask where his other two kits had gone. Shadowsight still experiencing the most difficult times in his small life. One minute cats love him, the next cats are mistrustful of him. I'd ask them if they would act the same if the same had happened to them. Even after all the Clans have treated Shadowsight, he still chooses to fight for and with the Clans. He exemplifies so much bravery. He is willing to go to the place of no stars, to find Squirrelflight and Bramblestar. Not even one cat from ThunderClan volunteers to do that, until Bristlefrost that is, but her reasoning is not solely for her own Clan. Her reason is mostly for trying to find Rootspring. They do figure out how to get to the Dark Forest without a spirit cat. Shadowsight and Bristlefrost dream their way in. My question for this book is why did Willowshine trick Rootspring and drag him in. What was her purpose or even Ashur's? In addition we learn that Ashur is controlling all the spirit cats with his mind but still does not say how. Something maybe to do with the island he has them all trapped on. And, it is learned that he does have help. He convinced some of the Dark Forest cats who still remain to help him with the promises that he will share his secret of showing them how to steal a living cats body. Why does this ability happen now? Is this something StarClan knew could happen but would never share this information, for this very reason? Rootspring in Chapter 10 page 127 has a vision of Shadowsight telling him to beware. This isn't fully explained. Maybe he saw this vision because he foresaw that Shadowsight would need help in the Dark Forest and he would be tricked by Willowshine. Willowshine eventually tells Rootspring and Squirrelflight in chapter 17 page 128 that Ashur himself dragged her into the Dark Forest and would not let her return to her body. Was he afraid that they now know how to reach him in the Dark Forest and therefore was hoping this would scare the rest of them into not trying to do the same thing she did? Shadowsight runs into a Dark Forest cat meeting him first, his name is Snowtuft, a ShadowClan cat who fought on the side of the Dark Forest. He no longer seems like a cat who deserves to be there since he is willing to help the living Clans, but he also is only selfishly doing it so the Dark Forest does not fully disappear. Since Ashfur arrived, parts of the Dark Forest has begun to disappear. Not sure what is going on with Daisy, I know I have mentioned this earlier in my review that something is going on with her. In chapter 11 page 132 Graystripe says ThunderClan knows where the Sisters are camping because they once again wanted the Sisters help and Daisy has been staying with them. First she was staying with Smoky in Chapter 20 in Darkness Within and now the Sisters. Graystripe has returned prior to this point and decided it would be best for him to be the temporary leader and they all agree. Shadowsight ends up battling Ashur to help Squirrelflight get away from him. He succeeds but Ashfur injures him and this causes Shadowsight to wake back at the Moonpool. This is in Chapter 18 that Mothwing even tells Tigerstar that she and him are his medicine cats and they can overrule what Tigerstar wants them to do. So he is fully resumed as a full medicine cat. Rootspring ends up running into Bramblestar's spirit when he runs into Snowtuft. They both help Bramblestar locate his body and he is finally able to return to it. Rootspring and Snowtuft help them escape and as all of them are running, Squirrelflight and Bramblestar make it back to the Moonpool but Rootspring was caught by one some cat. This has not been revealed yet.

one of the best warriorcats arcs of all time imo. I love bristlefrost and rootsprings relationship and it’s the first time they’ve really explored the fading of star clan/ dark forest cats spirits and the ultimate sacrifice bristlefrost does to save all of the clans

I really like the idea that without the dark forest and star clans link the clans cannot thrive. Showing like that there cannot be good without evil in the clans

Best series of Warriors yet. The characters were diverse and so well developed. Words cannot describe how amazing these books were and it is a shame I can't give it more than 5 stars.

Overall, The Broken Code Arc from the Warriors Saga is a pretty enjoyable read; however, I definitely cannot deny that it is probably the strangest Warriors Arc so far. I loved the MCs for this particular arc, and the only reason why I decided to rate the series as a whole three stars instead of four is because . Other than that, I would still recommend the series for both new and old Warriors fans!
