Trish is a nurse working in a busy Labour and Delivery unit in a large city hospital. One night shift will change her life forever, but will she see any of it as “good”?
Grant and Stacy have suffered loss before and now live in the hope that their dreams will come true. The arrival of their baby girl is an answer to their prayers, but the joyous celebration soon turns tragic.
An unexpected love, challenging family relationships, a mysterious relative, and other surprises infuse Someone of The Goodness as these families come to understand that sometimes “good” isn’t always recognizable.
Readers will love this novel about the great and bountiful goodness of God—even when we don’t see it.
The Goodness by P.D. Janzen is a contemporary Christian novel for fans of medical dramas. It starts fast and doesn't slow down. Trish, a labor and delivery nurse, is present during some of the best times of peoples' lives. Unfortunately, she's also there for some of the worst.
Grant and Stacy had a difficult birth, resulting in a loss, so returning to L&D to have their rainbow baby is a time of happiness and love. Trish is excited to be part of their family's second chance but is swept up in their tragedy when things go wrong.
But life goes on despite her second-hand sorrow. She stands up for her best friend at his wedding, rebuilds the relationship with her mother, and works tirelessly for every expectant mother who enters her ward.
And then, out of the blue, she reconnects with a man who not only understands loss in a way no one else can but also sees the goodness of God in the midst of pain.
What a fantastic first book to the Someone of Substance trilogy!
This first book introduces Trish, a nurse working in Labour and Delivery unit in a city hospital, As such, she sees a lot joy and sadness as woman come in to have their babies.
The two other main characters we follow are Grant and Stacy. They have had a hard time will loss in the past, but, finally believe that the Lord has a child for them.
I felt so bad that Grant and Stacy had such a hard time having a child of the end. It seemed like nothing good was coming for them, until another tragedy hit.
The way that Trish and Grant came together in this book was unexpected. After finding out who Stacy really was, I think that Trish should have ended things with Grant.
This book had me in a stranglehold of emotions! It was tense, heartfelt, and suspenseful in all the right places - so realistic. I couldn't put it down, didn't feel like a chore at all to read. The dialogue flowed like water, felt like I was peeking into the lives of actual people. And let me tell you, this story can heal your soul if you've been through some loss. It points you to God, the healer himself. Trust and believe, this book isn’t gonna gather no dust on my shelf - I'll be picking it back up again soon enough!
