Mad: The Complete Series

Rate this book
Special edition bundle. Three books. Hours and hours of fun, apocalyptic LitRPG, featuring mad scientist powers, along with plenty of laughs. Oh, and killer aliens. Lots of 'em.

I was in my garage, when the space elves addressed the whole world.

They didn't call themselves space elves, of course. Most humans struggled to pronounce Khjurhnalva, so we opted for the easier version. They had a message for us: Forces that had eradicated their species' males were now heading for Earth.

Hungry for our resources, the alien hordes annihilate everything that stands in their way. The space elves offered us access to the System and asked for very little in return. After all, cooperation was vital to the survival of both our species.

I, Mathew Alexander Dunphy, know all of the above is bullshit. I saw the truth with my own eyes and heard it from their beautiful, delicate, deceitful mouths. No one believes me, though. They call me mad.

What reason could the space elves have to lie?

A planet-wide survival reality show? Ridiculous.

I liked book one, so I hope books two and three are as fun.

I really don't like the protagonist and his bleeding heart ways. Him openly looking for ways for people to hurt and betray him is getting annoying. I hate stupid protagonists.

This ended okay. I would have liked a little more "mad science", but I enjoyed it.

I liked this better than Dungeon Crawler Carl, which is almost the exact plot. Don't know why I dislike Carl. Maybe it's the annoying cat being the focus?

While I waited for the audiocopy of bk2 look'it what happened the entire boxed set was released! Wowzer!
Man after finishing, They Called Me Madder bk2, I couldn't wait to start the final book in the dynamite trilogy! It's just that good! J Pal really nailed it and knocked this entire trilogy outta the park!
I couldn't have loved the final book more! The action-driven plot of They Called Me Maddest keeps the reader on the edge all the way through to its exciting conclusion!
I really enjoyed meeting Glimmer too, a new but welcomed character! As her/its(?) inclusion fits in nicely, actuality reinforcing the game-show aspect. Not only did book come to a completely satisfying end, but the ending to the third book gave J Pal enough wiggle room so he'd be able write a spin-off series! And of course, I for one am dying to find out what happens next!!!
So grab Mad: Complete LitRPG, because hey you get 3 audiobooks for a single credit, and because you love fun action-driven plots, gamelit written in the system apocalypse genre, pop-cultural references, and finally for Gary Furlong's fantastically nuanced voice performance.

A good read but leaned more and more towards the upgrading character's stats and tech to move the plot forward and I'm just less into writing about that.
