Lorna Greenwood is back, and she’s been given a new command. Well, maybe “new” isn’t the right word. LFS Werewolf is one of the oldest ships in the Lunar Fleet. She’s been rebuilt many times during her 70 years in service, even though she’s not as fast or as heavily armed as Fleet’s more modern light cruisers. Nonetheless, Lorna is proud of her and is determined to whip her green crew into shape for the mission ahead.
Besides, the Bug War is over, and nobody expects Werewolf will be going into battle anytime soon. Fate, however, has an annoying habit of ignoring expectations…

I have really liked this series. Mr. Siers Has taken In early concept of Whiz bang we're here On the moon, and turned it into a really interesting series. I really like how he has developed the primary hero Characters with the emphasis of discipline duty, honor, and societal responsibility. After reading the 5th book, I was afraid that there would be no others forthcoming. What a pleasant surprise to see #6. I hope to see more in the Future. When I say habit Forming, I mean the habit I have everyday of Checking to see if My favorite authors have published again Mr. Siers has made that list. My thanks for a very enjoyable reading experience. I am looking forward to see where this goes. On a Quixotic note, if the LFS ever does decide to take the gloves off, a few "Rods From God" can works wonders on a diplomatic level. Just saying ----------- Regards Bill Hodges
This series just keeps improving. The latest entry is as fine an example of military sci-fi as I've ever read. The space battles are well thought out and very easy to follow, characters (both good guys and bad guys) are well developed and sympathetic, and the in universe science is consistent.
Lorna Greenwood is back for a third book, a record for a character in one of Siers' novels. Well, there are some old folks still around on the edges, but Lorna is the first protagonist to make it past book two, which makes you a little worried about her odds in book 7.
Anyway, after losing her first ship and facing overwhelming odds in book 6, they've given her a new command with a very old ship. Werewolf has seen 70 years of service but is just coming out of Luna Free State(LFS)'s Yards with a full rework, and Lorna is off to join the guard force around Tatanna, the second human-inhabited planet the LFS has come across. Not for long though, as she's sent off to bolster the protectors of New Eden, the other human-inhabited planet, discovered in book 3, but when she arrives she discovers that half the ships she was sent to support have been destroyed by an unknown enemy and she's not the senior officer in the system.
Somewhere, somehow, bad guys have gotten hold of a formidable fleet, including a battleship, leaving Greenwood's aging light cruiser, along with a destroyer and a corvette, heavily outgunned. To make things interesting, the bad guys are hanging out blocking any attempt to send a message missle(hyperprobe) back to Luna.
Things look dire. Maybe Lorna should wait for more bad guys to even the odds.
No, really...it's a tough fight for the moonies.
Meanwhile, back on Tatanna, there's plenty of espionage and skullduggery medieval style as Earth's Confed tries to disrupt the moonie protection of the system.
A note about those human-inhabited planets. Science Fiction is often criticized for of simplifying things, especially the races and cultures, of other worlds. That's fair from a realistic standpoint but inevitable from a storytelling one. Still, Siers has settled on several human-populated worlds other than Earth, each with one genotype and one culture. New Eden = Native Americans(ish), Tatanna = Medieval Europeans(ish), and who knows what else we'll find ou there.
Unrealistic? Too handy? I'm not worried. Siers is a thoughtful writer that puts in the work to make things hold together, and I'm betting that sooner or later we'll find out that they're all Terran stock, dropped off at different times by some alien meddler. This would actually be pretty easy to verify by checking the mitochondrial DNA against our own, which shows human lineage back to the Rift Valley in Africa. Maybe in book 7.
I've been reading these nonstop, and while I still enjoy them, maybe I'll take a break and come back later so I don't burn out on the saga.
Lorna Greenwood is back and she got her very own cruiser. Dark human forces move, trying to destroy the Lunar Free State: Spies in the Tatanna system (Nova Sakura's job) but also, on New Eden, very very-well equipped pirates. And that is where LFS Werewolf and her captain are tested to the utmost when "pirates" having destroyed a good portion of the lunar forces in the New Eden system through ambush and guile.
The odds are daunting, the enemy strength quite unexpected... but they have to deal with the Wolf Pack.
LFS 6 takes place not that long after the events of "Next Crusade" and again features Lorna,Nova,McGill, King Arne,Duke of the north coast,Rogo and of course corrupt, greedy earthers. The action takes place in both New Eden and Tatonna as Confed sympathisers try to stir up trouble for the LFS using "pirates " and infiltrators to undermine peaceful societies.
The book was an ok read. Enough action to keep the readers interest. However, the book was not one that you would sleep over just to finish the book. The characters were well developed even though no one was particularly empathic. The book does leave an opening for future books was the involvement of the confederation in the hostilities was left open in the story line.
Sides scores again with a well written novel that entertains as well as provides food for thought. The mix of industrial and societal levels in the series highlights the gap we see currently between First and Third World nations along with the darker side of Colonialism.
Things aren't over for the Lunar Free State. This books details several different challenges that all originate from the same source. Very entertaining.
A few parts got this up to four stars, but parts of this got old, real fast. A great deal can be done in this universe with these characters. Hopefully it will happen.
A most enjoyable series to read. I absolutely loved it! I couldn't wait to get home from work to read more and would be ecstatic if more books would continue the story.
Another very good read. The characters become more interesting and the action still is fast paced. I'm saddened by some of the people who are killed off.
