After a tragic accident leaves her mom in a coma, she focuses on the happiness in her life- her two best friends and her five year old son.
What Laura needs is some good luck.
What she gets is the captain of the New York Nighthawks, Alec Kostelecky- a ghost from her past.
With captivating hazel eyes, and a body that showcases his dedication on the ice, Alec is every girl’s dream. He is passionate, and when he wants something, he goes after it. When a chance encounter brings Laura and him together again, Alec refuses to let her slip through his grasp, like she did years ago.
Every girl in the world may want to call Alec Kostelecky hers. But not every girl knew him at fifteen. Not every girl got pregnant by the infamous NHL star and was left to raise their son on her own. And not every girl has the capability on bringing him to his knees.
When long lost love reignites, and twisted truths come to light, Laura questions everything she thought she knew. And nothing is certain until the first drop of rain rolls down her cheek.
I'll take a page from the main female character and use one of her most frequent phases that pissed me off.
My Jaw Unhinged Girl why was your jaw always unhinged all the time....and it didn't even make sense.
Plot of the books goes like this boy and girl are in a relationship in their ealry teens. They break up, he leaves town to go play Hockey, she finds out she's pregnant she send him a later he never replies so she moves on with her life. Turns out he never received the later and we don't know anything about him...lile family...nothing at all.
•5years later she has a son ....her mom is in the hospital (a coma) and she meets her ex....blah blah you know how it goes they talk get back together find out they have a son. He's five btw let's not forget that. Keep this in mind at all times. It's very important.
•Also this one school scene where she goes to a school conference and the teacher tells her that her son could use a little more masculinity and that she has seen him Holding hands under the table with another boy in class. What was our fmc response??? Let me qoute it
•“Let me make one thing clear with you, Ms. Jaime. I don’t give a flying fuck if my son kisses Erick in your classroom or confesses his love to him. I don’t give a fuck if my son wants to wear a skirt to school. He doesn’t own a skirt, but if he came home, wanting to, we would drive straight to the mall. And if anyone gave him a dirty look, I would say the same thing I’m about to say to you. Keep your judgmental-ass views away from my perfect son. His happiness isn’t hurting yours. So, leave it the fuck alone. And if you have any problems with that, we can continue this conversation with the principal and the school board. I’m sure they would love to hear all about it.” I turn and walk over to Jack, picking him up.
•Why as a parent would you go off like this ....it was rude and just screamed CRAZY yeah we support Lgbtq+ but as a parent you gotta be level headed and respectful and not let people like the teacher get to you.
•Anyway moving on....the mmc loses some big game...coach blames it on the fmc she breaks up with him....later her mom dies he comes back they talk and get back together and decide to move to New York. So 5 months later and we are told her son who is 6 years old has a boyfriend. Yes you read that right a boyfriend at six. Does that add up??? I was shocked when i read it. I loved that she supported him but i think having a boyfriend at 6 is too early and they don't even mention how old the so called boyfriend is...My mind was reeling with questions like how old is he????
•If you ask me it was very boring to read ....no charcater development everything is rushed and i wasted my time. Booktok you lied to me again i need to stop taking recs from you.
Major plot points were never explain. Definitely Wattpad vibes. In theory a great concept, execution was severely poor. Character development was absent. Timeline was fucked. How does a 5 or 6 year old have a boyfriend ? Also why are childrens sexualities being explored or put into question. Main girl needs a serious reality check. Main guy was by far the best character yet we know absolutely nothing about this man or his past or really anything at all. Josh is the only character that made sense yet again, we know nothing about him, and he is treated like shit by the main girl. Sadly, we know everything about the main girl, and she is just ... Bleh. And Charlotte, a child. She is supposed to be in her 20s, yet she is at best a 15 or 16 year old girl mentally.
Dnf at 65% but I did read the whole thing to find out why the main guy did not receive the letter.... Spoiler..... We never know 😃.
4.5 ✰ / 5 — special thanks to the author for sending this book my way!
this book had so many of my favourite tropes. single mom? YUP. second chance. YUP. “what letter?!?!” A HEARTBREAKER, BUT YES.
this was the first pru schuyler book i’ve ever read, and i have to say i am AMAZED! not only was the writing fast paced & entertaining but it was also SO heartfelt. i felt every single one of these character’s emotions, from excitement, love, fear, pru manages to tug you by every single one of your heart strings.
i’ve read a great many second chance romances, & this book definitely deserves a top spot! the only thing i have to say is that i’m upset it was as short as it was! i would’ve loved for this to be longer but i’ll take what i can get 🫶
alec & laura are genuinely adorable, their relationship & history ?? the tension ?? and don’t get me started on jack. that boy is the CUTEST. i just want to give him a big hug, he deserves the world <3
anyways, if you’re looking for a short, fast paced, contemporary romance, DEFINITELY check this out !
Yeah I had to stop after the hero hired an actual limo to take the heroine for dinner. Like dude you just found out you had a son you fathered like 6 years ago and your priority is hooking up with the mom first? The word "handsomer" didn't help either. Also why is it that the heroine has nothing "appropriate" to wear but her friend/roommate has a wardrobe with never ending options of clothes that magically appear when she's in dire need for something sexy to wear?!🤷🏾♀️
I was enjoying the story, but the author kept throwing in random plotlines and I was like "wait what?!". One particular instance is when the heroine is having a meeting with her son's teacher. The teacher feels that her 6 year old son is behaving too "feminine" because he's holding hands with his friend who's also a boy. Rather than having a civil conversation, the heroine goes on a tirade of swear words and says how she wouldn't care if her son wears a dress. While I appreciate the direction the author took, it just seemed extremely unnecessary to have a emotional reaction to something like that.
I got a headache reading this book, in one second she loves him, the next she hates him, then loves him and that's going on for THE WHOLE F*CKING BOOK. JUST DECIDE GIRLLLL
Spoilers!!!! this is a ramble so it includes almost everything
Omfg I hate this heroine so fucking much. She say she s a mom and all that but she barely act like it and I'm like 80% in the book and I just can't continue it. she just broke up with him because his coach said he will end his contract MIND YOU their son knows the hero is his father but she still chooses to fucking end it. In my mind that s something a mom would never do. Never put another person,no matter how important ,in a more important space than their child. Also they haven't dated for 6 years and boom!! All is forgotten!! WHERE IS THE ANGST??? That was the reason I picked this book, the angst, also the way people said that oh wow second chance romance, there was no second chance,no second guessing,no hesitation ,they just jumped right into it. And I'm not saying that s bad for some but these characters did NOTHING for me ,like absolutely not one single reaction to them, only hate. i hated being in the heroine's head. Legit all this book was about till now was just "oh I'm a mom and my life is so sad,i have debt but somehow own a house with my best friends and also have a personal car, and I can't even imagine being with another person while my kid is still young" then Alec appears and boom"date, date, oooh another date, a spicy scene i skipped because i felt uncomfortable and a game " and even when he found she kept him a secret kinda he just let it slide????like bro you went on 3 dates before you even met him,and you met him om accident anyways this was more of a rant but yeah, for the people who just want a non angsty read this is for you ig
Where do I even start ? Leah made me want to get violent with her every time she opened her mouth. She’s supposed to be a “single mother” but does jack shit the entire book because her friends take care of her child more than she does. This book is also supposed to involve the “second chance” and “secret baby” trope but they both served us absolutely nothing. No angst, no character development. Make it make sense. We could also talk about how Alec never got the letter from Leah telling him she was pregnant and needed him. But we never find out why he didn’t receive the letter?????? Leah also enjoyed repeatedly referring to Alec as “not a hockey super star in her eyes but just the boy she fell in love with when she was 15 🤪” which is just beyond annoying considering how many times she said something along the lines of this.
There is so many details about this book that are unrealistic. The announcer at the hockey game saying to Alec that he should “score a goal for the women there for him” made me want to throw my phone at a wall.
Not to mention the amount of internalized misogyny Leah has. Multiple times her and charlotte say something snarky like “the puck bunnies won’t have a chance to steal our guys” when they are just as much ‘puck bunnies’ as the women they are referring to. Leah was aloud to put on a revealing dress to go to the club or dinner with Alec but when another women did it, she was a whore trying to seek attention in the wrong way!????
I got to the funeral scene and seriously couldn’t take it anymore. This book was awful. Leah has the personality of a 17 year old girl, while Alec basically has zero traits other than the fact that he only rides in limos and is in love with Leah. The guy basically has the personality of a sim.
I thought it was cool that there was LGBTQ representation in the book but it was kinda poorly executed in my opinion. I mean the kid is what..? 5years old and has a boyfriend? It felt extremely forced and slightly uncomfortable for his age.
Overall, if I could give this book 0.5 stars, I would. Basically no development in the plot or characters relationship. They were broken up with zero contact for 5 years and then they meet again and within 10 days are madly in love again. That’s not how relationships work. People learn and grow over that much them and it’s beyond unrealistic that they bounced right back and became a family.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Tropes: - hockey romance - secret baby - second chance - found family
TW: death/death of a parent
Find Me in the Rain had a lot of promise, but I think it needed better execution and to be a bit more fleshed out. The pacing is super rushed and the characters didn’t really have time to develop…
I understand Alec & Laura have past together, but they’ve been apart for the last 6 years and she thought he abandoned her while pregnant and it just gets all swept under the rug. It went from 0 to 100 and just didn’t work for me.
Also, like this day and age social media is a thing… There are so many other ways she could have and should have used to teach out. The letter thing is cute but jfc lol
This was such a beautiful story that I couldn’t put down!
Laura is a single mom, living with her 2 best friends. After a tragic accident leaves her mom in a coma, she starts to focus on all the good in her life, like her best friends and her five year old son. Suddenly a ghost from her past appears, Alec, who is now the captain of the New York Nighthawks. Alec refuses to let her slip past him like she did years ago.
Laura and Alec’s story is such a heartwarming one about second chances, motherhood, and true love. First off, I gotta mention how much I loved Laura’s friends Char and Josh and their interactions were hilarious! Laura is such a strong and independent woman, and I loved how confident she was. Her son Jack is the cutest little kid and their mother - son relationship was just such a sweet one to read. Alec may have irritated me a few times, but he definitely redeemed himself. Once you get to know him you start to see how deep his love is for Laura and it’s just really sweet. This book will make you cry, but also leave you smiling in the end. I could go on and on about this book, but I won’t. Just go and read this book, like, right now!! You won’t regret it. Pru is such a creative and talented author and I really look forward to reading more of her work. This book was so sweet and steamy and I loved every page!
it really was satire oh lordy... this was so bad i cant asdjasjf 😭😭😭😭 they pulled the whole "break up in the last 50 pages but then get back together again at the very end" thing lajksdfasfhuip 😭😭😭😭
and it was SO random they were all like 'i love you so much ur my world like when i was 15/16' bro... y'all got preggo when u were 15 no way u were that in love...... and they told us all abt how much they loved each other but there was no acc chemistry it was just like 'we felt that tug of attraction no one could ignore as soon as i saw him' wtf???!?!?
both mcs were annoying
also author seems to have a phobia of contractions its like in those PARs where we weren't allowed to say like 'she'll' or 'i'd' or 'he's'so its all 'she will' and 'i would' and 'he has' its like weird
dnf p152. What kinda five year old can't go to the bathroom by themselves? It had a lot of potential, and the author definitely has some talent, it just wasn't quite... ready. This seems more like a first draft than a final.
I loved the whole aspect of the book and the tropes were cute but there’s definitely room for improvement.
Firstly, I felt like there was no character development. Same old characters from start to finish and it was starting to get repetitive, especially since it would repeat the same things/plot points/confessions. And stuff wasn’t really resolved? Idk how to explain it but the entire plot was just forgive and forget, over and over. The MMC supposedly ignored the FMC and ditched her and her son, but when they meet again she forgives him right away? like she gets mad but doesn’t really question it.
Also, I feel like some details were overlooked which made stuff more confusing. Ex. the character said she had work that night but all of a sudden she’s making plans with others. Or a character mentions they need to make a stop on the ride somewhere but then they end up going straight to the destination. And the first couple chapters of the book were kind of confusing and going very fast. It didn’t explain who any of the characters were or what was happening so I had no idea who was who.
The strongest suit of the book was the smut. Like the smut was good but the plot and everything else was kinda eh. It was enjoyable though!
This was every drama you can think of wrapped in Wattpad narration. It was good, but boring. A lot happened but it felt like nothing at all. If I were 13 this would have been the best thing ever written, but not anymore.
1. Personajes aburridos y bastante planos. 2. Historia bastante repetitiva y predecible. 3. ¿Qué fue eso de poner a NIÑOS en una relación sentimental? 4. No había Pov de ambos así que no simpatice con él y no sé qué pensaba así que no me gustó eso
I liked this book... But as soon as Alec realized that Jack was his, shudders in disgust* I wanted cry scream and ball! Instead I cringed and almost died from second hand embarrassment. 1.9
the premise was okay but what could have been a 4 stars lost me in the last like 20%. it barley gave events from their past relationship and if it did that’s all they talked about. alec continually went on about seeing her in the bar again and how he was so regretful of the time he missed, but when you say it over and over it loses impact. in addition i think the mom’s condition was supposed to mean a lot more than it did. without any actual scenes, memories, or i guess reasons to go on i just didn’t really care about her like i should have. and i think it could have been executed a lot better because when something happens to her it is TOTALLY glossed over. also their child is talked about having two boyfriends which i love the diversity but girl he is FIVE. and he moves on in a blink of an eye. i don’t know, it just didn’t sit right with me. also the epilogues sucked and gave details about the mom to make other things make sense contextually so it just didn’t end with a bang.
