Launch in 5: Take Your Idea from Lightbulb Moment to Profitable Business in Record Time

Rate this book
How do you do justice to your business idea? It's a question that entrepreneurs are always asking, aware that 70% of new businesses fail. Starting a business is scary, especially for first-timers, but there is a safe, LAUNCH IN 5 way to do it.

If you are launching a new business, this book will improve your chance for success in the most economic, efficient, and painless way possible, before you put large amounts of time and money on the line. It provides a comprehensive guide on how to rapidly turn an idea into a money-making machine - whether it is a side gig or a headfirst dive into the world of entrepreneurship.

Because most new businesses are conducted online, it will place an emphasis on how to launch and build a business on the internet, and because most new entrepreneurs are operating within a small budget and timeframe, these concepts are inexpensive, fast, low-risk, and proven.

Based on the author's insider strategies, LAUNCH IN 5 will guide the reader through each step of getting their idea out into the world, from inception to launch to ensuring long-term growth. It will also offer tools to help the reader determine whether their idea is worth pursuing (most aren't) and, if not, return them safely to the concept-development stage before they waste massive amounts of money and time launching an idea that will never fly.

You'll learn that
· Most risk is unnecessary.
· You can launch your new business in days (or sometimes even hours).
· You can apply the same launch strategies you'll learn here for an online business, an offline start-up a global corporation, with a budget of $50 or $500,000. These method work in any industry, for any idea.
· You can lower the start-up failure rate from 70% to 9% if you follow the guidance in this book.
· Most business ideas can have their potential success (or failure) proved in just a week or so, for less than the cost of the latest iphone.

Thank you, Nicholas Brealey Publishing, for the advance reading copy.

This book is as basic as it sounds!

Simple and easy to read but so powerful in the voice of its writing, you can go for this book if you're really looking for a short easy guidebook which will boost your motivation and would actually make you want to perform.

The book has short eight main chapters with some more extra concluding contents on the topic.

The writing is quite simple and I would say it is for everyone. But I would highly recommend this book for the beginners and the ones who are planning to start making their ideas practical.

Every chapter has anecdotes, summarised points to take home, what you can look forward to from each chapter. It's super helpful and so well organised.

Go for this book! It's the time for the entrepreneurs to grow and grow according to the changing times. A good helpful nonfiction read of the time.

“It’s almost six years to the day that the idea of quitting my 9‐to‐5 job and starting a business began to take seed in my mind,” Will Russell writes at the beginning of his new book, Launch in 5: Taking Your Idea from Lightbulb Moment to Profitable Business in Record Time. “Just like I was back then, perhaps you’re currently spending your days as an employee dreaming of being your own boss. Maybe you’ve had an idea for a product or a business in the back of your mind for a while and you’re finally ready to turn it into something real. Or it might be the case that you’ve discovered this book as an accomplished entrepreneur with a breadth of experience building products, brands, and businesses.” He adds, “Whoever you are and whatever your journey so far into the world of entrepreneurship, with every new launch, project, and business idea comes fear: a fear of failure, a fear of rejection, a fear of the unknown, and a fear of losing the life or career you’ve worked so hard to achieve. The following pages introduce you to launch strategies that will forever change how you pursue new ideas, removing the fear, reducing the risk, and re‐engineering what it is (and what it takes) to become a successful business owner. Welcome, and thank you for being a part of it.”

It’s this kind of affability that makes the left-brain concepts of the read so compelling. You really enjoy the read as much as being able to absorb the information with clarity and ease. There’s never a sense Russell isn’t secure in what he preaches, rather the ideology and methodolog(ies) being things he naturally invests time in and is able to communicate the merits of with personal ease. “Given this pandemic‐driven period of high unemployment, the shift online, and more isolation than we’ve experienced in generations, the time for a new type of entrepreneurship is now,” he states. “…A common belief among newcomers to entrepreneurship is that being risk‐averse is a liability…Popular wisdom has glamorized risk and deemed it necessary for a new idea to become a successful business. It’s a romantic image, one that is perceived as inspiring, heroic, and brave. Yet, as a result, first‐time entrepreneurs are often willing to take make‐or‐break risks, even when they can’t afford failure. In this pro‐risk culture, many entrepreneurs make huge, often dangerous leaps, because doing so—risking everything—is the norm.”

Russell’s affable conduct on paper isn’t just unique to him, although the effectiveness of the communication landing is. There’s been something of a systemic overhaul when it comes to the flintiness and sense of removal when business leaders speak. I think we have movements like #MeToo, the movement for equal pay, and a renewed sense of universal accountability for even the most powerful to thank for that. But to the credit of people like Russell, they’ve gotten onboard and utilize rhetoric that people from numerous walks of life can understand, and feel like they can seize the day on.

I wish I had read this book before launching my businesses. It would have saved a lot of time, money and angst! It's full of good, practical ideas based on plenty of personal experience. I have heard Will speak at conferences and in webinars/podcasts and he knows his stuff so I pre-ordered his book expecting a good and useful read. I was not disappointed. It is a must-read for budding entrepreneurs: straight-talking, easy to understand and implement, and enjoyable too. Highly recommended.

This is a step by step guide on how to approach launching a new business with the help of a structured process. It includes carrying out proper analysis of potential customer segments, what they want and what they are prepared to pay.

Russell encourages the reader to take the risk out of risk-taking and his Five Step High-Profit Launch System does just that - provided you carry out all steps!!!

There is quite a lot of work required to complete the five steps, and it is not a fast process that you'll be able to do in a few weeks - expect it to take 6-12 months, depending on your own skills (and time!) and access to money and external resources.

Russell generously shares his extensive knowledge of customer and market behaviours, potential pitfalls, and he is a great "coach" to have one the journey setting up a new business, or launching a new product/service for an established business.

This is one of very few books where I wished I had a printed copy, with wide margins to be able to add my own notes including reminders and ideas as I was reading through it! Perhaps there should be a workbook available to buy!

This book "does what it says on the tin". It is an easy-to-follow, non-technical book that ought to be read by any budding entrepreneur with an idea and a passion. It highlights the basic techniques that should be followed if you want to 'health check' your idea (ie, is it likely to work?) and then leads you logically and simply through the steps that should ensure that the product becomes a success. And Will sprinkles his steps with homespun stories to make it personal and entertaining. All prospective entrepreneurs need help to launch their idea and bring it to market successfully. Read this book, and follow its suggestions, and you will do just that.

An Actionable Short Read for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

"Launch in 5" is a concise, prescriptive guide for aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly appealing to those interested in side hustles or who are risk-averse. Initially slow, the book becomes engaging by the third chapter. It focuses on 'Launch Marketing,' offering straightforward, actionable advice for both pre and post-launch phases. Each chapter includes an anecdote, adding a real-world touch to the concepts discussed. Overall, it's an insightful read for anyone starting their business journey. I would rate it 7/10.

My top quote from the book is "Entrepreneurship is for anyone with an idea that solves a problem, a passion to make that idea a reality, and a willingness. to listen and learn. " This book is about simple and at the same time complex subject of launching a business. The steps described in the book are not new or innovative, they are well-known and simple. The actions you take and how you take them makes the whole difference.

I've been thinking about launching my own keto business for a while and this book along with Lean Startup was recommended to me as a good place to start. Both are great! This one felt more relevant to me in the specific strategies it goes into, like Facebook ads and email marketing. I feel inspired to take my next steps and get this business going!

Read this in one morning after preordering it having watched Will Russell speak at a conference recently. Great read, got me thinking more about how I can pursue a business idea of my own. Would recommend to others thinking about investing a bit more in their own idea.

Launch in 5 piqued my interest, as I think it would most, as it scratches that itch of wanting to start your own business but not quite knowing how.

It focuses on 5 key areas:
1. Validation, research, and strategy
2. Audience acquisition
3. Audience engagement
4. Audience conversion
5. Scale and optimise

It was certainly more technical than conversation, sometimes made it feel quite sterile.

Sadly, the review copy provided to me had significant formatting errors, making it very hard to follow.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Nicholas Brealey Publishing for an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
