Well, that wasn’t how it was supposed to go. Not at all!
Life has just not turned out the way Aubree McCourt had planned it! She’s not famous, or rich, or even really respected anymore—not since her husband cheated on her with practically every woman in their small Tennessee town, not since he left her and their two kids. Abandoned them, actually, and everyone knows it. Everyone can see that she’s not the woman they thought she was, and Aubree sees it, too. She’s trying, though, and she doesn’t need anyone’s pity. Especially not from Wyatt Taylor. After all, his daughter was one of the women that her husband ran around with. One of the many. It doesn’t matter how handsome Wyatt is, or how nice. How generous, how funny. How good he looks without his shirt on…oh, my word. It is a sight to behold. It doesn’t matter how sparks seem to fly between them, how sweet he is to her children, how he gets along with everyone in her family, how he’s always there when she needs him. Because all Aubree really needs is to find her missing husband—ex-husband, and make him pay for what he’s done. She’s perfectly capable of fixing her life all by herself. Alone. Sure, alone. Lonely. But if Wyatt is there, maybe she doesn’t have to be. Maybe he’s just what she’s been needing—and she’s what he needs, too. Maybe this is how it’s supposed to go, how things should have been all along. And maybe those sparks between them will light a pretty big fire…
4-4.5 ⭐️ The heroine for this book is Aubree McCourt, the sister of the heroine in Here I Go, who discovered her husband was cheating on her in that book. You definitely don't have to read the other book first, and in fact I enjoyed this book much more than that one, but it does give a little more background on the sprawling family these sisters have (and have to deal with).
Aubree's story really spoke to me, she's a single mother of two sweetheart children whose life is completely turned upside down by her husband's cheating and abandonment in a small town where everyone knows everyone else and gossip runs rampant, no more so than in her own family. I felt for her story as a woman imagining how I would feel, and as a child who went through something similar. She's stubborn and determined to handle everything on her own amidst constant recriminations from her family, but hero Wyatt slowly enmeshes himself into her and her kids' lives and it is very sweet how they support each other.
Again, the romance is somehow both quietly key to the story and also sort of in the background of the heroine building her life back, in the unique style this author has that I enjoy so much. Low steam and much more mannerly people than I typically read, but a compelling and charming story as always, and one of my favorites from this author.
Another great read by Jamie Bennett. I love the humor in her stories, she takes painful subjects and turns them into something pure and highly enjoyable.
From the first few pages, you're thrust into the heart of the story when newly divorced Bree finds herself unable to purchase groceries after her credit card is declined. Her ex-husband has disappeared and Bree is in serious financial trouble after being saddled with his debt. She has a supportive family, but is a little too proud to let them know how dire her situation is. The person she's able to confide in is Wyatt, he's the father of the girl her ex-husband was caught cheating with. He feels a lot of guilt for Bree's situation since his daughter has behaved so badly. Needless to say, it's complicated!
This is a slow burn romance which works well with the plot. I loved seeing Bree and Wyatt fall in love. He not only helps with her bruised self esteem, he is so sweet with her children. I would have liked having Wyatt's POV, but that's my only real complaint. Overall this was a winner, I'd recommend.
** I did not read the previous books in this series and wasn't lost, this works well as a standalone.
Loved this continuation but def a stand alone story about Aubree and Wyatt Jamie Bennett is always the author I wished would write a little faster. I would prefer once a week lol
Another great story from Jamie Bennett. This time Aria's sister Aubree is the heroine. Romance mixed in with Aubree growing and learning about herself - I really enjoy these types of books.
I loved this book. Bree catches her husband cheating and divorces him. He leaves her high and dry without a home for their children and no money. Unable to buy groceries for her kids because her credit card is maxed out, she finds herself having a breakdown in the parking lot. A man bring out her groceries and she realizes it’s Wyatt, the father of the woman who had the affair with her husband. She refuses the groceries and goes to leave and realizes her car has been repossessed.
The story goes on as we watch Bree learn to take care of herself and the children while Wyatt feels he has to help due to what his daughter did. What adds to this book is the wide range of characters and how they each play a part in Bree’s life.
I know my review is not doing justice to this book. You have to read it. I was so drawn in the I read it straight through. I have never read anything by this author before. Now that I have finished this review I am going to see what else she has written. I love finding new authors.
Very much enjoyed! These 2 were extremely cute together. I was rooting for them all the way.
I am skipping my way around this series, depending on what plot I'm in the mood for at the time.
Ms. Bennett writes characters that I care about. Life has not treated them easily--I can relate--but they remain good people regardless of what is thrown at them. I'm always rooting for the two MC's to get together because I want the best for them. Loved seeing how Bree took charge at work and how she built a family. Also respected Bree's stance towards forgiveness. It's an interesting way to look at it, but I think it's real; and I would feel the same if what happened to her happened to me. I also liked the way their faith was woven into the portrayal of their lives, without in any way this being an Inspie.
The Best Luck by Jamie Bennett, Aubree McCourt wasn’t having the best luck in life, on one of her most humiliating days she meets Wyatt Taylor, the best of luck. This is a slow burn romance, but also a story of a woman going through many emotions from a cheating husband, then divorce, who stumbles a few times but is an amazing woman. Wyatt Taylor, the father of one of the women that was involved with Aubree’s husband, he is dealing with his own decisions from when he was young. When these two meet the sparks do fly, the heads bang but along the way love grows. We are on this journey with Aubree as she rises from her marriage ending, her family interfering, the lumber yard, to trusting Wyatt and she was just what he has always needed. I love Jamie Bennett’s books and this one was one of her best, giving us strength, humour, love, building a family, and a HEA. I would recommend this book!
Enjoying the main character (h) as a secondary character in the previous book pretty much guarantees that you’ll love her in her own book, and Aubree McCourt did not disappoint. Jamie Bennett gave her enough backstory sass, and heart in her sister’s book that I was looking forward to getting to know Bree better. She does grow and soften slightly but stays true to her intelligent, resourceful, and dedicated self. She simply learns to see herself clearer and recognize the choices she has made. She’s a wonderful mother and sister and love how she embraces her found family. I have to admit I also appreciate that this is a faster burn than many of Ms. Bennett’s novels.
I really didn’t like Bree for the first 20% or so. She’s had bad things happen to her, but her attitude is so arrogant and whiny that I was wondering if I was going to have to DNF. She kept blaming her ex-husband’s APs instead of her husband for his own choices and actions. Bree starts to break free of that around that first 20%; it’s not instant but a slow improvement in her character and outlook.
I felt like the book could have used a few more pages as the ending felt rushed.
A very sad and hard book to read at times, my heart broke for the heroine and her poor innocent children who didn't deserve a cruel husband and deadbeat father. I was touched that life gave her a chance to rise from all her problems, and she learned how to deal with her insecurities. The way her little boy Aric protected her was so sweet and heartbreaking, it made me empathize even more with the family's situation.
DNF. I really tried cos I was looking for a 'cheating/revenge' story... but this? It was just so oddly written. FMC - not very likeable, and for this kind of tale you need to feel empathy from the first meeting of that person. It all felt very stilted and the way in which the characters spoke? Strange. Very strange.
I am tempted to skip/read just to see what happens... but, in all honesty, I don't think that I actually care.
I always love Jamie’s books and this one didn’t disappoint! Great story and ending. Would have loved an extended epilogue but that’s just because I always love me an HEA and a look into what their life is like in the future. Would recommend to other readers!!
The Best Luck is a story about Bree, the aftermath of her divorce, and how she picked up the pieces of her life. I liked Bree’s strength and confidence. I liked how her family rallied around her. I also liked Wyatt’s enjoyment of Bree’s organization skills and of being in her company.
