We were high school best friends, nothing more. No matter how much I wanted more.
When I walked into biology and met my new lab partner, my heart skipped a beat. Kelly Erickson was gorgeous, funny, and easy to be around. But I kept my attraction to her hidden. She needed a friend, and nothing more, and I was happy to be just that. At sixteen, how could I have known that my future would include a failed marriage and my life in tatters? Or that Kelly would be the one to help me pick up the pieces. The problem is I can’t tell who she’s happier to be around – me or my dog. Oliver’s my furry best friend, and now he’s my competition for the affection of my human best friend. I know they say dogs love their owners unconditionally, but now I need to convince Kelly that this dog and his owner love her, and that she is the best parts of my past, and the only person we want in our future.
I loved returning back to Dogwood Cove again. I really enjoyed this friends to lovers story about Jenson and Kelly and of course the puppy dog Oliver! This is a quick novella with plenty of love, friendship, dogs and a little bit of spice!
I love this novella is a quick read but is amazing!!! Love at first sight when teenagers and Second Chance as adults. I totally love Kelly and Jensen. Friends to lovers is one of my favorites trope and this book is so good in all those tropes. Dogwood Cove is a great place to fall in love with. Kelly and Jensen are in love with each other so secretly that takes many years to finally accept it and show it. I love the romance, the laughter that’s always in Dogwood Cove and the steamy parts too. If you want to fall in love instantly you need to read all Dogwood Cove serie.
Kelly Erickson and Jensen Porter met and became best friends when she was assigned as his lab partner their junior year of high school. Jensen developed a crush on Kelly immediately, but she had a boyfriend back at her old school. They shared a kiss after her cheating boyfriend dumped her, but she was scared to mess up their friendship, so it didn't go any further at the time. Years later, Kelly has become the manager and head cookie baker at The Nutty Muffin in the small town of Dogwood Cove on Vancouver Island, while Jensen is a recently divorced middle school English teacher. He's planning a move to Vancouver Island with his dog, Oliver, and will be staying with Kelly for the first month or so while he searches for an apartment. Kelly has secretly been in love with Jensen for a long time but thinks that he doesn't reciprocate her feelings. Determined to hide her attraction from her best friend, she signs him up for a dating app, but the only person Jensen wants to date is Kelly. Can he finally convince her to take a chance on him?
This fast-paced, funny, and sweet novella was exactly what I needed to read right now. Jensen and Kelly were so cute together! I loved their witty banter and genuine friendship, which transitioned so naturally into romance. They really were perfect for each other, and I loved cheering them on to their HEA.
I highly recommend this story for all contemporary/small town romance fans and look forward to whatever Julia Jarrett writes next.

Kelly and Jensen met in high school. They instantly became friends, though there was always chemistry between the two of them.
Love and Leashes is just a feel good story and a fun return to Dogwood Cove. I adored everything about Kelly and Jensen. I loved the glimpses of the past in high school when they first met to jumping back into the present and seeing where they are now.
Their chemistry is off the charts and they are the typical best friends, don’t think the other feels the same type of thing but decide to finally take the plunge is beautiful.
Not to mention Jensen has the cutest dog in the world who is truly his best friend, besides Kelly.
If you’re looking for a smalltown, friends to lovers romance this is one to check out.
Even though this was a novella Love and Leashes was really cute. I really love Dogwood Cove and love all the characters and so happy that we got to see Kelly get her HEA with Jensen! Can't forget Ollie the bestest boyyyy 🐶🐶
**thank you julia for an ARC in exchange for a honest review***
Yet another swoony romance of Dogwood Cove. It's time for Kelly to find her Happily ever after.
It's a short novella about two best friends who have deep feelings for each other but hide their emotions sometimes coz the timing was wrong and sometimes coz they didn't want to risk their friendship.
Jenson and Kelly are made for each other and finally they get their chance after Jenson's divorce. It was sweet and made me crave for more.
We get a bit of Mila, Ethan and Summer. Cannot wait to have all my favourite characters from Dogwood Cove in the next book.
I hope at the end of the series there is a novella with future of all the couple's.
Thanks to Julia for the advanced readers copy for a honest review 😊.
Wonderful!! This was a nice quick, short read. I absolutely love it.
Kelly was the new kid at school, she was seated next to Jensen in Biology lab. They introduced themselves and became best friends. After Kelly breaks up with her boyfriend Jensen consoles her and they end up kissing. Neither one admit their true feeling, telling each other it’ll ruin their friendship. Right after college Jensen marries Tatyana he was seeing her shortly after he kissed Kelly. They end up getting a divorce and he gets a job close to Kelly so he asks if he and Ollie his dog can stay with her until he finds an apartment. The first night over they both get drunk they pass out on the couch in each other arms. Kelly insists on making Jensen a dating profile on a popular dating app. He protest but she tells him he needs to get back out there, and she’s not sure why she’s suggesting it because she’s in love with him. After a few failed dates, Jensen tells Kelly he doesn’t want to be out there dating he’s out of practice. She suggests he take her out on a fake date so she can see what he is doing wrong. Kelly gets frustrated at work and bakes to many cookies and vents to Mila her boss and friend about her hot roommate and best friend. Mila suggest that Kelly just tell Jensen how she feels towards him. After their fake date together where she tells him he is a perfect gentleman he tells her the date isn’t over he didn’t give her a goodnight kiss. She tells him they need to practice the goodnight kiss. As they kiss things get heated and they end up going to their separate bedrooms. Kelly gets frustrated after a while and then heads into Jensen’s room, taking off her clothes for him. He at first wonder what she is doing then tells her to come here. They get physical and it’s the best both of them have ever had and don’t want it to end. The next morning Jensen wakes to Oliver scratching on the door wanting to go out, he thinks he is dreaming when he first wakes up. He gets Kelly a coffee and takes it to her. When she awakes she asks him if she is dreaming and he tells her no she is meant to be with him and alway were. They agree to move in together either into Kelly’s home with Oliver right beside them.

Title: Love and Leashes Author: Julia Jarrett Hero/Heroine: Jensen & Kelly Trope: Friends to Lovers
THE GOOD 😀
Dogs! Hot guys! Baked goods! I mean how could I not love this adorable novella when it contains all these things?? Tania visit back to Dogwood Cove, Love and Leashes focuses on Kelly, cookie extraordinaire and manager of The Nutty Muffin. Her best friend of over ten years, Jensen, is moving back and staying in her spare room whilst he looks for a place to live. Oh, and he has a bloody adorable sounding dog called Ollie. This had all of the fun and frolics that previous Dogwood Cove books had, along with some pretty great chemistry between the two main characters. The fact that Jensen and Kelly had so much history between them made their connection more intense, add in a fake date and some lust filled looks and I was ‘girrrrl get yours!’ A short and sweet read with some great characters, Love and Leashes was ten chapters of pure delight.
THE BAD ☹️
That I don’t have a dog. That is all.
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book to read. This is my honest review.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Sweet and steamy friends to lovers romance STEAM LEVEL: 🔥🔥🔥 STAR RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a book in The Love At First Bark series and it is Kelly and Jensen's story. Kelly and Jensen are best friend's and even though he has always had feelings for Kelly but he never told her and there friendship was so important that he didn't do anything about it. Jensen has moved back to Dogwood Cove after going through a divorce and he is staying with Kelly while looking for somewhere to live with his dog Oliver but things start to get complicated as Jensen still has feelings for Kelly but she seems more interested in his dog Oliver and Jensen doesn't no what to do next. The chemistry between Kelly and Jensen is so strong and they are so perfect for each other and you find yourself hoping that they will give in to his they feel and realise that they can have the happy ending that they both deserve or they could miss out on something special. This is a brilliant read with great characters and a storyline that pulled you in and had you turning the pages to see what would happen next and I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed.
Super cute and quick novella set in @juliajarrettauthor Dogwood Cove world with Kelly, Mila’s cookie baker, and her best friend Jenson. Mila and Jenson have been best friends since high school but the timing was never right for them. Now Jenson and his dog are temporarily moving in with Kelly after his divorce. Despite Kelly’s wants, she encourages Jenson to get back out into the dating world but after a disastrous date, Kelly makes a crazy suggestion that they go on a practice date. Jenson knows he doesn’t want it to be just a practice date but does Kelly feel the same way?
I really like the world of Dogwood Cove that @juliajarrettauthor has created and it was great to see or hear mentions of our favorite previous couples from town. The final book in the series will be out later this year so that gives you plenty of time to read the whole series beforehand! The whole series is full of great chemistry between the couples, heartfelt moments, great friendships and small town vibes.
Thank you @juliajarrettauthor for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback!
What a super sweet novella! This fantastic quick, fun, friends-to-lovers, small town story is set in the Dogwood Cove world. Kelly(the baker/manager of the Nutty Muffin) and Jensen first met in high school and quickly became best friends. Their close friendship has lasted all these years, but so has feelings of more that each is convinced the other will never reciprocate. Until one night when they can’t deny the chemistry anymore.
Kelly and Jensen are both great characters, I loved their friendship the little bits of the past we got to see including their first meeting. These two are super sweet together, and their connection is so strong! Seeing what happens when they finally admit their feeling was perfect! Although Jensen may loose his best friend title to Oliver, his very adorable dog!
We even got to see a few of our favourite characters from the series!
It is always great to go back to Dogwood Cove! Kelly and Jensen were perfection. Best friends to lovers? Yes please!!! I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast read, not just because it was a novella, but because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. There were parts that were so well done that I just couldn't help but get lost in the moment. I could actually see the conversation happening in my head... Love when that happens! Jensen was so amazing. Who doesn't love a man with a dog? Amd really, what does anyone do when they are in love with their best friend and have been for years? Right! Sign them up with a dating profile. I mean what could possibly go wrong? Anyway, the wit and banter is amazing as always. It's always fun to "catch up" with characters from prior books, too. That is part of what keeps me coming back. And I can't wait to read more...
If you like books about couples breaking out of the friend zone, you will love this story. Kelly is the local cookie guru and her BFF since high school, Jensen, is moving to the area post-divorce. This novella is part of the 15-book Love at First Bark project but it's set in the Dogwood Cove area. Since it's mostly focused on Kelly & Jensen (and Ollie!), it can be read as a standalone but characters from the author's Dogwood Cove series will pop in. Even though Love and Leashes is a quick read, you will still get all the feels from this story. I would definitely recommend this book, especially if you are reading the DC series. It's a nice little morsel until we get the final book! This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy.
Kelly and Jenson have been best friends since high school, but they’ve never crossed that line before. Years later, Jenson needs a place to stay after his divorce, and when Kelly offers him a fresh start and a place to sleep, he can’t afford to say no. But secretly, he’s hoping that the cards are finally right for them…
Oh my gosh, awwwww. This novella was all sorts of adorable, and I am here for it!!! Best friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and in Kelly and Jenson’s story, it was absolute perfection!!! I loved how Kelly and Jenson found solace in each other, and I adored Jenson’s puppy, Oliver, as well! Julia Jarrett is a wonderful writer, and I highly recommend both “Love and Leashes” and the rest of the Dogwood Cove series!
I loved that this novella was set in Dogwood Cove! Such a beautiful town and I loved going back there with this novella!
Kelly and Jensen are amazing. I just love both of them! Such great, best friends who get a second chance as adults!
It's hard being in love with your best friend when you don't want to ruin your lifelong friendship. That's what Kelly and Jensen are afraid of. It isn't until they're both adults and tired of not knowing and they both take that next step! And oh, it is so freaking amazing!!!
This novella was done so well. I felt like it read as a full length novel. It didn't feel rushed. All the characters were great and I definitely fell in love reading these two!
Playful, flirty, and fun read. I'm so happy to get Kelly's story. I've adored her throughout the Dogwood Cove series and was going to be so sad if she did not get a HEA. Her and Jensen are perfect together. And of course Oliver, the golden lab, is a furry scene-stealer.
Friends to lovers is not typically one of my favorite tropes but I loved their story and connection. Love and Leashes is a novella-length book with a great pace and was completely absorbed in every moment.
I recommend this book if you are looking for a story that will make you smile, and give you all the best feels with some steam.

Love and Leashes is a sweet quick read that has you feeling all warm and happy inside. Ms. Jarrett gives us a story that is fun, hits the friends to lovers spot and there is a cute dog in the mix. Jenson and Kelly's relationship started in high school and now that they are adults, single and living in the same town, maybe they can act on the feelings they had in high school. Add in Oliver, Jenson's dog, and that gives Jenson more of an in with Kelly. Can this be their second chance or the chance that they missed? There are laughs, sweet scenes and some spice that has you thoroughly enjoying this wonderful novella. Pick up Love and Leashes and enjoy Jenson and Kelly's HEA.
𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗦 is all my favorite things rolled up in one sweet read! I am all about small town romances and Julia Jarrett’s Dogwood Cove is one of my favorite fictional places! I’m also a sucker for a good second chance/friends to lovers romance, add in an adorable pooch and cookies and hello, all my favorite things!
Jensen and Kelly are adorable together and when they get their heads out of the doghouse and own up to their feelings, it is on! I enjoyed watching them blossom as a couple and couldn’t get enough of them and Oliver, the cutest lab ever.
𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗦 gets the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR this great novella and enjoy!
I don't know how Julia manages to fit a full love story in 72 pages but here it is. Jensen and Kelly are high school best friends and when his marriage ends 10 years later, he moves in with his best friend Kelly while house hunting before he starts his new job. It doesn't take long before their m unresolved feelings since that small kiss in high school burn to the surface... I'll let you imagine how it ends... did someone say frosting? Like all of the Dogwood Cove books, I absolute devoured this one and it was so good to head back to The Nutty Muffin and see Mila again too in all her crazy goodness. This is the perfect afternoon read.
Kelly and Jensen met in high school and Jensen loved her as soon as she saw her but she had a boyfriend. When they broke up and Jensen and Kelly shared a kiss she pushed him away to frightened to ruin their friendship. He got married life moved on but his feelings for Kelly were always there. When he temporarily moved in with her after his divorce they both realised their feelings were more than friends but didn’t think the other felt the same way. Sweet, funny, steamy story with amazing chemistry and a beautiful HEA.

This is a great novella. It was perfect for me to read between 2 "larger" books. In this book, it's all about Kelly and Jensen. Two people who met at high school and became best friends. After Jensen's divorce he stays at Kelly's with his dog Oliver. The setting was perfect and we see some familiar faces from other books in this series.
This book is just perfect as a best friends to lovers. It's slow burn, but also very quick. I loved it!
This is a wonderful little novella which is Kelly and Jenson’s story. These two were best friends in high school and have secretly loved each other for years. Now Jenson is now divorced, and bring in a puppy called Oliver, and second chances are possible. This is a beautifully written story which is a quick read, with emotions, friendships, humor, witty banter, love, and a tad spice, and this all leads to a sweet and entertaining page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
I loved reading this wonderful love story. This was just my kind of romance with a lot of hiccups before Jensen finally got the girl he always wanted: his best friend Kelly, who always thought not to be pretty and good enough for him. But now after his divorce from the biggest mistake of his life, he and his dog Oliver moved in temporarily with Kelly, or will it be permanently?
Find out for yourself in this book. I highly recommend reading it.

Kelly (h) and Jensen (H) have been best friends since high school, and while they might have secretly been interested in each other, the timing has never been right for them to try for more than friendship. But now, Kelly is single, and Jensen's divorce has come through. With his dog Ollie in tow, Jensen is going to be staying with Kelly until he finds somewhere new to live, though he might not need to if they can be honest about their feelings for one another. Sweet dog dad, friends to lovers romantic quickie novella!
Kelly and Jensen, best friends for years. After a contentious divorce, he's moving back home with Oliver, his furry son. You just know that these two should have been together all along, that he never should have married the ex-wife. This is another book in the Love at First Bark series, and a great fit. I loved seeing Kelly and Jensen realize how much time they've wasted being apart. And it was funny to see Oliver adapt to his new family situation. Jensen Porter and Kelly Erickson were high school friends. She had a boyfriend, so they never moved into a relationship, even though Jensen wanted more. Being lab partners, he enjoyed being around her, but he never told her how he felt.
Jensen eventually got married and, when his marriage failed, he returned to his hometown. Needing a place to stay until he could find something, Kelly allowed Jensen and his dog move in with her. She adores Oliver, his dog. But can he convince her that both he and Oliver want her in his life forever?
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOOOOVVVEE this. Kelly and Jensen story is the best BFF love story I have read. It gave me all the feels that Julia Jarrett’s book give me. I love reading about other characters from the Dogwood cove series. It’s just so…..AHHHHHHH 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 I don’t know what else to say. Definitely, DEFINITELY you won’t regret reading it. If you love her Dogwood Cove Series, you’ll definitely will love Love and Leashes.
This is a quick, novella story of a couple in Dogwood. This story is about Kelly (worker for Mila) and her best friend, Jensen. He's fresh off a divorce and she's finally realized she wants her best friend but is worried how it will affect their friendship. Jensen wanted Kelly when he first met her but that didn't work out. This is a cute story that will have you smiling as you read. You will enjoy this one and wanting another couple soon.
This is a short deliciously sweet story about Kelly and Jenson, best friends since high school who have secretly pined for the other after that one kiss way back then gave them a glimpse of what could have been. Years later, after marriage and divorce they're back living in the same town and these best friends turn into more.
