Eddie Macon's Run

Rate this book
Eddie Macon (Schneider) was wrongly convicted of a crime. While performing at a prison rodeo in Huntsville, Texas, he escapes and heads for the border, hoping to join his family in Mexico. Marzack (Douglas) is a cop in hot pursuit of Eddie, determined to put him back in jail. Eddie has no transportation, so he takes the journey on foot. He ends up in the woods, where he is nearly killed. He meets Jilly Buck, a bored rich girl who agrees to help him because it's "just a slow Wednesday."

I found several books that were my husband's dating back to over 30 years ago. I am slowly reading them, in between some fairly new ones that I purchased. This was a really good book and I am glad I read it now. If you like this type of book, I recommend Eddie Macon's Run.

Read in 1983. Convict escapes from prison and makes a run for the Mexican border where his family awaits.

Really 3 1/2 stars. Old book but good about an inmate escaping from Huntsville Prison and the man hired to catch him. Far-fetched in places. Texans (like me) will especially enjoy it.

Can't remember how I came by this, and now can't find the book on my physical shelf, but recall it well as a suspenseful story. Should have got more coverage than it did. Since there is no publisher's description I'll say that it's about a family man framed and imprisoned unjustly in way south Texas. No one can escape from the prison and get to far-off civilization without wheels; the surrounding terrain is too broad, too dry and too inhospitable. Desperate to see his wife and kids again, he prepares to escape by literally running 200 miles (was it that much?) so as to avoid the need to hitch rides or be seen on public transportation. He plans a rendezvous with his wife to be at the end of his run.

Special interest for those who do ultramarathons in Death Valley, but not limited to those few. A good escape story in general. Think I'll try to find it on ABE.

A very good 'chase' book, that I remember reading back in my senior year in high school. Just came back to me today: 3-4-2017!!! Funny how that happens sometimes!
