2021’s hottest new superhero RADIANT BLACK launches into his first ever crossover event with the Image Comics debut of INFERNO GIRL RED and the first appearance of ROGUE SUN! The future of Image’s superhero universe is here!
Power Shattered Grid architects KYLE HIGGINS & RYAN PARROTT, MAT GROOM & FRANCESCO MANNA from Marvel’s Ultraman, and colorist extraordinaire IGOR MONTI unite for a one-shot, extra-length crossover event so big it can only be called—SUPERMASSIVE.
So we have Inferno Girl Red coming from a different universe and run into Rogue Sun. Radiant Black also gets the call and goes to where the other two are. They find themselves Taking some giant monster that feeds off their power. This wasn’t any kind of blow your mind stuff but it was decent.
This is such a great comic. It's like being there for the beginning of Marvel as Black Market Narrative gears up for a huge Image comics-based superhero shared universe. Radiant Black is great and this is just proving that the bigger it gets, the better it'll be. I can't wait until we have a huge blockbuster movie franchise of these heroes and I can look back knowing I was here for this important moment in this comic company's history.
The Massive-Universe is fresh and fun but this special fell into some crossover tropes that are predictable and tired. Rogue Sun and Inferno Girl seem like interesting characters, but the issue focused almost entirely on action and skipped the character beats that would have mattered in making me care. I guess the follow-up series are meant to dive into the characters more. But this was a decent introduction.
The first Supermassive!! Loved it!! Loved meeting Rogue Sun, and seeing everyone’s dynamics!! Scope was small which I really appreciated, and gorgeous art!!
This volume collects the first (?) three Supermassive one-shots, a yearly crossover event between the characters of the Massiveverse, written by the architects of each series with some stellar art from familiar faces.
2022's first one-shot introduced Inferno Girl Red and Rogue Sun, two of my favourite characters from the universe. 2023 is both a flashback and a current day story, focusing on previous iterations of Rogue Sun and fleshing out his world. And then 2024 is a tie-in to the Catalyst War, with a focus on Shift, who's been popping up across the various Massiveverse books.
Each of these stories is solid in its own right - I'm not sure if they work out of context, especially 2024's, and I'm also not sure if reading these will make you want to go out and read the other books that the characters appear in. But then, I guess you probably wouldn't pick these up if you weren't at least passingly familiar with some of them. So this is just more of a thing you're probably reading since you already know you like it.
Liked this a lot! It's really just an adventure crossing over three superheroes from the Massive-verse (Radiant Black, Inferno Girl Red and Rogue Sun), but it was fun! It also provides a strong introduction to the (previously) brand new characters. There's a specific scene involving all three heroes in the middle of their fight that was an appropriately epic surprise.
Thank you for an old time fashion comic book. The cover drew me in to read it. I have read comics all my life, and good looking covers always attached my attention. Good beginnings of hero background and issues. A good stories with many directions for hero character building. A good comic start!
This comic definitely has three arcs within it and the middle is the most enjoyable of those. This was my first introduction to this universe and I may have benefitted from having read Radiant Black to help understand it better. Some of the panels are visually stunning.
I really liked the art direction but I won’t lie I couldn’t really care about the characters as much just because I have not read their own individual series. This really did make me want to check out more though!
SUPERHERO CROSSOVER!!! This comic was everything I was hoping for when this got announced. This was amazing and action packed, keeping me on the edge of my seat til the last page. And what was that on the final pages??? It's like the Marvel movies meets Power Rangers in scope and action! In one book, we get new heroes, new powers, dimensional jumping, and the kickoff of brand new comic characters Rogue Sun and Inferno Girl Red! I cannot wait for more!
