AVA What happens when you meet the boy of your dreams in a bookstore? You pretend you’re not leaving for college in the morning, and instead spend the night falling hard for his blue eyes, dimples, and creative soul – even if Maddox is a poetry hater. You pretend you don’t get that tattoo in his honor. You spend the next ten years telling yourself that a corner of your heart isn’t taken by a boy from your past. When you see those blue eyes again, you pretend you don’t feel seen—awake—for the first time in a decade. You remind yourself that you said yes to a man you didn’t want to marry, and now you’re stuck. You tell yourself that this is the life you wanted. But it isn’t. Not anymore.
MADDOX What happens when you run into the woman you haven’t stopped thinking about for a decade? The wild-haired, free-spirited sunshine girl from your past? You pretend she’s not at that brewery with her fiancé, your new friend. Leo. The man who can make or break your design career. You pretend neither of you see that Leo is keeping secrets and close to breaking. You pretend you don’t know how miserable Ava is with her life, how she only lights up when you’re around. You tell yourself you don’t ache for the one woman you can’t have. But you do. You want her as badly as she wants freedom, and the time has come to stop pretending.
Can't Help Loving You is a steamy second-chance romance intended for readers 18+. Content warning: PTSD, panic attack, language, sexual situations. Some readers may feel this book contains emotional infidelity. Rest assured this forbidden romance includes no blatant cheating and guarantees a happily ever after—for everyone.
Eve Kasey writes for a design firm by day and reads (and writes!) indie romance novels by night. Her contemporary romances balance swoon and steam while aiming to teach readers something new. She loves romance for the hope the genre conveys as well as the amplification of the simple truth that everyone everywhere deserves a happily ever after - however that looks to them. Eve lives in and loves the Pacific Northwest.
I’ll start by saying that Eve Kasey is one of my favourite indie authors, and this book has enforced that belief.
In true Kasey fashion, this book is lyrical, poetic and so beautiful in its depth and layers, I can’t even begin to express how it sank into my heart and stayed there. And is still there now, days after finishing it!
The heat is intense, and though spread apart—pun intended ;) — every steamy moment felt plucked from a poem.
I’ve read every single Kasey book and let me tell you, she keeps mastering her craft every single time, page by page. This is quite possibly her best work so far!
Warning: this is a SUPER slow burn with a very delayed HEA, but worth every second. This is real life romance at its best. It hurts. It aches. It’s not what you expect but in a great way.
I started Can’t Help Loving You when I needed a steamy distraction from an illness apocalypse that hit my house, and boy oh boy, did it deliver!
I love a second chance romance (it’s probably my favourite trope), but I loved the theme of loving yourself first more. Of putting your wants, needs, and desire above all else - even if it hurts.
Ava and Maddox were worth rooting for. Their story felt like fate and that kind of trope works for me when it’s done right… and Eve Kasey did it right! The chance meeting at 18, coming back into each other’s lives ten years later, patiently waiting for their story to come full circle! Lemme tell you - it was worth the wait.
Ten years ago, Maddox and Ava met in Seattle and it was love at first sight - the connection was so strong. The thing though it wasn't meant to be as they were off in different directions the following day and only had this one day together. It was the best day of each of their lives and one that stayed with them for years to come. Maddox was stuck and Ava was such a free spirit but had a plan. She was his sunshine girl. Now ten years have passed, Maddox works at Sneakerhead as a shoe designer and Ava as a school teacher. There is sadness though behind Ava's eyes as there is a part of her that doesn't match the girl he met. The pair end up reconnecting under surprising circumstances as Ava's fiancé Leo is the military model that Maddox has hooked up with to represent his shoe creation. Leo and Ava met in college and then Leo went to the Military and the pair got engaged. Leo and Ava aren't suited the way Maddox and Ava were as Leo doesn't support Ava the way she deserves and Ava feels she is stuck and can't move on with her life as she fears what will happen to Leo if she goes. As the book goes on, we watch the different love stories and friendships unfold. I have to admit, I was a little surprised with Maddox's family as it seems each of his siblings and himself loved people that were attached to others. They all had this glimmer of hope that things might turn in their favor and eventually it does but you did feel for them as a reader. This was one of the best romances I have read in a while as the characters just felt so genuine and I couldn't help but hope that Maddox and Ava got their HEA together - sorry Leo but they belonged together. This book I think too that I felt connected to it on a deeper level, was in a way it was similar to my relationship and love story. If you are wanting a good love story, one that does show truly the saying "If you love it set it free and if it's meant to be, it will return and be yours forever". Then check out and add Can't Help Loving You by Eve Kasey as it gives you all the right feels.
I was lucky enough to do an early heart read for this book and I cannot tell you how honored I was to be asked. I have long since loved Eve's books. She has a knack for bringing the emotion and steam, while telling truly original stories.
Ava and Maddox's story begins in their teens, when a chance meeting brings the two together for one incredible day. Fast forward years later, and the pair are thrust together, but seemingly at the wrong time in their lives. They try to fight the attraction, but sometimes circumstances need to change, even if the outcome is uncomfortable.
Can't Help Loving You is a beautiful book. It tackles tough topics, including PTSD and panic attacks. Many times, when a heroine starts off with someone other than the hero, the book grazes the edges of cheating. However, this book was so well done and had me rooting for all parties.
I loved Ava. There is such a big piece of her life that I recognized in myself. Being a teacher today is hard. There is a ton of red tape and sometimes you don't get support. Ava has the biggest, most caring heart. She loves big and will do whatever she can. I loved her emotional journey throughout the book and how she finally found her voice and her true passion in life.
Maddox was such a cool hero. It's not every day you have a shoe designer for a hero. He was the perfect match for Ava. He pushed her when he needed to, but showed caution when it mattered most. I loved the spark and passion the pair shared. It radiated off the pages and their love for each other could be felt.
Can't Help Loving You is a steamy second-chance romance and is available now!
“Look at me,” he whispered. Ava had no choice. His soft gaze looked like refuge. “I still see you, Sunshine.” GAHHHHH! Eve Kasey has a way with her words that I absolutely love: one part poetry, one part melodic song lyrics. Her writing style lures me in every single time, gripping my heart and engaging all of my emotions. Add the gorgeous backdrop of the Pacific Northwest and her fully-fleshed out characters, and you have a beautiful slow-burn romance.
I adore love at first sight themes, and I was hooked when Maddox and Ava met in the first chapter, (even though they were only together for one swoony night before they went their separate ways.) Fast forward ten years later, and they run into each other again, but this time things are a bit more complicated. I was disappointed Ava lost sight of who she was and what she wanted because her character started out so strong and sure of herself. But the author takes her on a journey of self-discovery, and let’s just say the happily-ever-after (for her and with Maddox) is totally worth it.
This is not your typical romance – it goes so much deeper. It’s a story of love and forgiveness, and rediscovering yourself (and your true love) in the process. Guaranteed to give you ALL the feels.
Emotional, raw, and real, Maddox and Ava’s story isn’t your typical romance (in the best way possible). They meet when they’re on the cusp of launching into adulthood and are just as quickly parted. But the impression they made on each other never fades.
Years later Maddox starts working with — and befriending — Leo, who he soon finds out is engaged to Ava, and things get messy fast. It quickly comes out that Ava never really wanted to get married (to anyone). And Leo is more wrapped up in dealing with PTSD than being a partner to her. Far from giving him a reason to go after the woman he’s never stopped thinking about, Maddox knows his feelings for Ava must stay just that: feelings. He can’t act on them: can’t be that person, can’t do that to a friend, can’t do that to the woman he cares about.
But nothing good comes from suppressing feelings; a fact that’s equally true for them all, and one that will soon blow apart their lives. With moments that will make you laugh, cry, and feel, each of their journeys play out in a beautiful, heartbreaking mess of realness. This introspective romantic fiction novel goes beyond romance to the very core of what happiness is and how to find that despite the obstacles that are thrown at us. An absolute must read.
The girl wore sunshine like a halo. Maddox noticed her glow first and everything else second. She squinted against the sunlight as she crested the steep hill, though the brightness was at her back. Then, as if remembering that she had sunglasses perched on the top of her wild blonde hair, she smiled.
From the opening lines, this book captured my heart. I read it as a reader and a writer, swept along in the story whilst simultaneously in awe at Kasey's turn of phrase. She is a writer who has woven words into a story that is beautiful and unputdownable, whilst also successfully writing a tale which navigates the most dangerous trope in the entire romance canon - that of cheating.
Before you all saddle-up and mount your ranty horses, I want to make it clear that there is no cheating in this book. None. Zero. Zilch. Okay? Put the pitchforks down. Breathe... Sometimes I do marvel at the ire directed at the mere whiff of cheating in a romance novel. A hero may pull the heroine's hair during sex, slap her till she bruises and call her daddy's little whore and no-one bats an eyelid. But if she kisses a new love without having unequivocally finished a previous relationship then the author is metaphorically hung, drawn and quartered.
At the start of Can't Help Loving You, Maddox and Ava meet and spend the perfect day together. The meeting changes both of their lives, and even though they part to go to college hundreds of miles from each other, the connection in their hearts never went away. Now, ten years on, they meet again, but through Leo, Ava's fiancee. None of the feelings they had ten years ago for each other have changed, but their circumstances have, and a relationship of any kind other than friendship is impossible.
This book is an exploration of masculinity, femininity, gender relations, friendship, love and self love, as well as a nuanced, raw and real depiction of PTSD as experienced by Leo. It's a slow-burn, soulful ride with characters that curl around your heart and won't let go. Can't Help Loving You is simply brilliant and I urge you to go and read it. NOW!
Eve Kasey is one of my favorite authors, and this book didn’t disappoint. The tension and emotion between them was so real it hurt my heart. I wanted them to find a way to be together no matter what. And without giving away spoilers, I admired the way she made it happen.
"He saw home and he saw hope as his past and present collided like spinning galaxies." Maddox and Ava spent one perfect night together before going to separate colleges. But a decade later, they serendipitously reconnect in Portland, when Maddox designs a range of sneakers alongside Leo, Ava's fiance. In 10 years, their roles have reversed. Maddox has come into his own, while Ava has faded to the background in her own life.
First, let me just say that all second-chance romances should aspire to be this brilliant. This is such an authentic and heartbreakingly real love story. Maddox is an absolutely charming, confident and charismatic book boyfriend I won't forget anytime soon. I adored him and his relationship with Ava.
The way she came alive in his presence and the ways he tenderly cared for her, you can't help swooning and rooting for them. "With Maddox, she could breathe. Next to him, she felt seen. Safe." Speaking of Ava, her character growth was amazing. She went from a dutiful fiancee to a woman walking to the beat of her own drum and I loved that for her.
Now, let's talk about the fact Kasey wrote the most beautiful break-up in history? It made me tear up even though it was the result I wanted. The way she wrote Leo's character... you're going to empathise and fall in love with him as well. It's inevitable. Add in Maddox's loving siblings, and the perfect ending for them and you have a fantastic 5-star romance.
Can't Help Loving You is a slow-burn with a steamy payoff. Its complex layers and amazing characters are destined to make you feel ALL the emotions. I couldn't recommend reading this romance more - what a ride!
Thank you so much to Eve Kasey for the ARC in exchange for this honest review.
The opening storyline of how Ava and Maddox meet and create a bond like no other had me hooked to find out what becomes of these 2 beautiful souls.
Insert Leo into Ava's life 10 years later and I'm all mad like Ms Kasey was just going to let me have Ava and Maddox easily, super tease! Leo is Ava's fiancé that just so happens to be working with Maddox on a project and when out for drinks, Ava joins them with all her sunshine glory and Maddox can think of nothing else.
The struggle of friendship and betrayal was real. The sex scenes, hot as always. The journey for love of self, twisty and difficult to break free of the chains we all have. And the story of Leo's struggles with losing his leg and friends to a roadside bombing was painful to experience.
Overall another beautiful and romantic story that readers every where will enjoy.
I enjoy Eve Kasey's writing SO much. She has a way of pulling you into a story responsibly - especially where war vets who suffer from PTSD (Leo) and flirtation with emotional infidelity are concerned.
I'm particularly sensitive to stories that threaten the sacred commitment of a relationship, but Kasey really does navigate the story smartly, realistically, with a touch of magic that makes you realize you're in quite the captivating love story.
Ava and Maddox's story pulls at the heart strings in the best ways and experiencing their relationship was a front-row seat to a slow-burn to be sure. I'm so glad Eve trusted me with an ARC - I'm privileged to be one of the first to know Ava and Maddox and I look forward to discussing these characters and themes as more of my friends read Can't Help Loving You, too!
MAJOR THANKS TO THE AUTHOR FOR SENDING ME AN ADVANCED READERS COPY OF CAN’T HELP LOVING YOU! I DEVOURED THIS BOOK!!! COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN 🥵😍🥰 I WILL FOREVER READ ANYTHING SHE WRITES! HER CHARACTERS FELT SO REAL WHICH I LOVED. THE STORY WAS SWEET, SEXY AND ADDICTING ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 THIS BOOK TALKED A LOT ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH AND TOUCHED BASE ON MILITARY PTSD. DEFINITELY DIFFERENT FOR ME BUT EYE OPENING. I ADMIRED ALL OF THE RELATIONSHIPS IN THIS BOOK AND THE RAWNESS IN THEM. AGAIN, SO REAL. TRULY LOVED THIS BOOK!
Can't Help Loving You has everything I love most about Kasey's work: bright feelings, genuine friendships, attention to detail, and deep, undeniable connection. Loved Ava and Maddox's story.
Wow. I went in to this book expecting a swoony love story, like all the other books of Eve’s that I’ve read. I did get that, but also so much more. This book is about learning to love “me” first and always, and loving our partners in the way that they need to be loved.
I’m not sure how she did it, but Eve made me fall in love with every single character! I just wanted them all to be happy, wanted what was best for them all. This book was a gift that was wrapped up so beautifully and completely in the end. It’s a slow burn, but we get so much fuel to that fire in the beginning to tide you over until it gets steamy. This book gives all the feels, I can’t recommend it enough!
Thank you to Eve Kasey for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Let me say that Eve Kasey is hands down one of the best writers putting words out in our universe. I was gifted an arc of her latest book and had to read it TWICE! This book will leave a lasting impression, dare I say imprint on you for some time…if not forever. Ava and Maddox meet and share one of the most beautiful days together that two strangers who really don’t seem to be strangers can spend together only to have to part the next day for who knows how long. It would seem that their souls are connected because no matter what, they find each other. There are obstacles in their way, but when something is meant to be, nothing can stop it from happening. The amazing friends and family in this book are the comedic relief that lighten the heavy parts of the book, and the steam can power an engine. I liken this book to one long piece of beautiful poetry, a love song that exists outside of space and time - because Ava and Maddox love for one another exists outside of space and time. This is a book about love, about being your authentic self, about friendship, about finding yourself, about finding your souls counterpart. The pure emotion, whew! I think of one song through every Ava and Maddox situation(particularly this part), A Song for You by Donny Hathaway. “You taught me precious secrets of a true love withholding nothing you came out in front when I was hiding. Now I’m so much better, and if my words don’t come together, Listen to the melody - ‘Cause my love is in there hiding. I love you in a place, where there’s no space or time…” If you’ve never read one word by Eve Kasey, this is where you start!!
I took a couple of days before writing this review on purpose. I needed my mind and heart to be in certain place before trying to put my thoughts into words. This book, these characters, these words go beyond everything I was expecting about this story. It was different for sure, a true love story. But not only about the romantic love between Maddox and Ava, but also about the beauty of finding yourself and learning to love yourself fully.
First and foremost, I need to say that Eve Kasey is ─in my opinion, one of the best Romance authors of this generation and deserves way more recognition and praise. Her storytelling is pure poetry. She has a particular way to dive deep into the character's mind and heart that's different from what I've read before and this book wasn't the exception. It was the epitome. With poetic writing and an intriguing couple, she blessed us with a fantastic and swoony story that will make readers cry every type of tear there is.
From the very first page, Maddox and Ava had the most delicious and beautiful chemistry. The tension once they found each other was magical and intriguing. I couldn't stop sighing with each page, seeing the impact they made in each other's lives and how beautifully and naturally they fitted together. That same vibe and connection didn't die with the pages (and the years that followed). I don't have words to express the intensity I felt in my chest as they found each other again in different paths and an impossible situation. They were the same people but so different at the same time, with different fights and different struggles that they had to face. I absolutely loved the fact that they only knew the best of one another, so they believed in each other wholeheartedly but also respected each other and the lines they wanted so hard to blur.
They broke me, the journey was so painful, so full of ups, downs, doubts and fears but it definitely had the ending it deserved. They found each other at the right time and after the process they both needed to go through to give each other what they needed fully and without any more barriers.
I need to talk about how much Leo's struggle broke me. His pain and his burden felt so real to me even though we don't have his POV at all. I loved the compassion, love and understanding Maddox and Ava showed him and the support they gave him so he could fully heal was one of my favorite aspects of this book and I would love to know about his story and how he found the happiness he deserved so much.
Their self discovery journey, their friendship, their fight to find their way back to each other, the burning passion between them, it was all a blend of emotions and healing that made my heart feel so many things I can't even explain. I still can't find the words to express the joy that resolution and happy ending brought to my heart.
A million thanks to Eve Kasey for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I can't wait to see what else you have in store for us.
You have Maddox, who has spent his entire life trying to fit himself into everyone else's boxes and never quite sure of what he wanted and you have Ava, the sunshine girl who was sure of herself and what she wanted...freedom. The two of them cross paths at eighteen years old on the night before she's leaving for college in another state but one night is enough for them to completely fall in love. The desperate kind of love that etches itself onto your soul and never lets go.
Fast forward ten years and the roles have switched: Maddox is now 100% sure of himself and relies on his soul checks to get him through. Ava has allowed life and others to dim her light until she's become a shell of herself. They reunite and it's like no time has passed at all. Their souls still burn for each other. But time has passed and things are much different now. There's one major change - Ava is now engaged.
"I have a really hard time watching you dim yourself, Ava. Try not to do that around me, okay? I'll fight you on it every time."
Oh, the way this book hurt me. I ached for them to find their way back to each other. I ached for Ava to find her way back to herself. Eve's writing is so beautiful that I couldn't help but to feel like I was living in Ava and Maddox's shoes. Maddox and his beautiful soul and Ava and her giving spirit.
I also loved all the side characters. I was fascinated by both Maisie and Malone's relationships. I love how she conveyed Leo. He's not a good or bad man. He's complicated and he's scarred and struggling to work through what plagues him. Though I was rooting for Maddox and Ava as endgame, I found myself rooting for Leo's healing as well.
This was a beautiful story. I loved every second of it.

Title: Can’t Help Loving You Author: Eve Kasey Hero/Heroine: Maddox & Ava Trope: Second Chance Romance
TW/CW: Mentions of PTSD
THE GOOD 😀
Ma heart! Ma soul! My god, does Eve Kasey know how to weave a wonderfully epic love story. Bearing in mind how much I adored her All In series, I had high hopes for this book, and boy were they met. Glimpsing Ava on a street in Seattle, Maddox follows her to a bookshop and, ironically enough, this is where their beautiful story begins. Only having one day together before they both head off to college, they make the most of their time getting to know one another. Fast forward ten years and Maddox and Ava end up meeting again in the most unexpected circumstances. The thing that stood out for me with this book was how, even though the main love story was centred around Maddox and Ava, there was a secondary story of love and self discovery for Ava. Having lost sight of her identity and drive, Ava feels like she’ll never get back to that free spirited eighteen year old she was when she first met Maddox. I don’t want to reveal too much for fear of giving spoilers, but I adored the journey Ava, and Maddox to an extent, had to take to get to the people they wanted to be for each other. This, for me, was what made this as an easy five star read. Eve Kasey has the distinct talent of weaving stories that draw the reader in so much, that you feel like you’re part of the story yourself and that you know the characters on a personal level. Can’t Help Loving You was a gorgeous, heartfelt story about getting that all important second chance with the one that got away.
THE BAD ☹️
Not. A. Thing.
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this for me to read. This is my honest review.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: A thought provoking second chance romance STEAM LEVEL: 🔥🔥🔥 STAR RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was everything. I can’t even find the right words to describe it except to say that thank goodness there are people like Eve Kasey putting into words all the emotions, the joys and the sorrows of human existence and weaving them into a book as beautiful as Can’t Help Loving You is.
Ava and Maddox meet in Seattle when he sees her on the street and follows her into a book store. They are both leaving for college soon but end up spending one unforgettable day together. Ten years later Maddox is working in Portland and befriends Leo, a soldier, who has been seriously wounded overseas. They start working on a project together and Leo can’t wait to introduce Maddox to his fiancee. Who turns out to be Ava. In the ten years spent apart Maddox, who was an unsure boy at the age of eighteen, has grown into a confident man, living his life on his own terms and feeling sure of himself and his life choices. Whereas Ava, such a fiery ray of sunshine ten years ago, has somehow become smaller, diminishing her light and letting others dictate how she should live her life, both at work and in her personal life.
Maddox is such a beautiful soul and Ava has such a wonderful spirit and somehow their lives have been intertwined ever since that one chance meeting years ago. But their loyalty to Leo is unbreakable because they both love him – and one of the genius aspects of this novel is that the reader loves Leo, too. There are no easy answers. I can’t remember the last time I was this swept away by a story, and felt every touch, every spark of joy, every raw emotion. This book was the slowest of slow burns but that made it perfect, and it showed how important it sometimes is to let someone go if you love them. Oh, my heart.
As a long-time fan of Eve Kasey's All In series, I'm thrilled that she more than delivers with this spin-off story from the series.
From the very beginning, Maddox and Ava's connection sizzles off the page and I found myself rooting for the two kids who connected by chance and who never really let each go.
The descriptions of how Maddox followed his passions and how vivid the colors of his world were as all-encompassing as the lack of it in Ava's. The stark contrast of their adult lives and how a chance meeting threw them together just sucked me in and wouldn't let go.
Maddox embraced who he was, never apologized and celebrated who he was, whereas Ava let herself get smaller, accept less (including abandonment and bullying) in work and in her relationship because she placed loyalty and integrity over her own happiness. It just ripped my heart out to see what she gave up and had settled for in the last decade--but seeing Maddox again caused her to question things, to see what could have been and forced herself to admit that she'd never stopped loving him, the same way no one had every measured up to Ava for Maddox.
The steam was exquisite but what triumphed over that for me was the very relatable angst. All three Case siblings go through their versions of it (as messy romantic entanglements run in the family) but Maddox bears the brunt of it. Through it, he learns what it means to a better and bigger man- and to let someone go if you love them.
One of my absolute favorite 2nd chance romances I've read to date. Eve has never disappointed me and I know she never will!
The hero and the heroine both fall in love during their first meeting. However, life intrudes and the two moved on with their separate lives for years. But the hero and heroine met again, and the strong connection between them reignites. Yet there are obstacles that the couple must overcome before they have their own happy ending.
This is set in the same universe as the All In series by Eve Kasey. It's really nice to read more of this particular book universe, especially when it involves couples getting their own happy endings. The hero had cameos in another book and his own book gives a more comprehensive image of his character. The book's second-chance romance may be slow burn, but the happy ending is worth it after the tribulations the couple goes through. Both the hero and the heroine both know what they want and how interacting with each other as well as others has significant secondary characters are essential in showing how this journey led to their growth in this story. I would have liked more details in certain parts of the story. There is one major detail in the story that I didn't appreciate but understand that it's important to the story. Overall, an enjoyable read and wonderful addition to the All In series.
**Thanks to the author for the review copy. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.**
Can’t Help Loving You is about Maddox and Ava who meet on senior ditch day and have a magical 24 hours together. They end their time by heading to colleges in different states, but their time profoundly impacted them both. Flash forward ten years, Maddox is a sneaker designer working with Leo, a wounded veteran on a line of shoes and they become fast friends. When Leo invites Maddox out for drinks, Maddox is shocked to find himself face to face with Leo’s fiancé, Ava. As they get to know each other again, they can’t deny the pull of their history but their loyalty to Leo is unbreakable.
I’ll admit, I was nervous going into this because love triangles aren’t my favorite. But let me tell you that Eve treated this situation so well with so much nuance and care for all parties involved. I loved every single character - all the siblings and friends and coworkers - but Maddox and Ava shine so bright. Maddox’s love and dedication to Ava’s flourishing is absolutely beautiful on every page of this book.
Check content warnings on this one. They include depression, panic attacks, PTSD and descriptions of war trauma, and parental death.
Thanks to the author for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.
I was so lucky to have received an ARC for this gem. If I could give more stars I would have. The story about Ava and Maddox is what love stories are made of. They are complicated and raw but worth the wait and effort. People are complicated. Love isn't black and white and the author has done the impossible of showing us exactly how important it is to love yourself first and then be able to share this love with someone else. After reading this book you will not be able to settle for okay. You will want extraordinary because you don't deserve anything less. If I had to say something "negative" about this book it would be the minor thing that sex only happens in the last quarter of the book but not every love story has to be about sex, even if it is as hot as between Ava and Maddox. This book is for all the romantics out there, for the overthinkers and for those lost in a world that wants to tell you what you should and shouldn't be doing. Let Ava and Maddox show you what it means to truly be you and follow your heart.

10 years ago, they meet, when Maddox followed a beautiful girl into the book shop. They spend one magical day together and then went their separate way.
Now they meet again. Only she is engaged to his new friend. The feeling is strong as ever and attraction is undeniable, but none can't do anything about it.
10 years ago Maddox was lost. Meeting Ava and later the death of his father has inspired him to be true to himself. Now he is thriving.
The opposite has happened to Ava. She lost parts of herself and feels trapped. She is engaged to a man she use to love, but now feels distance from, but can't leave him cause he is still recovering. She is frustrated with the principal and guidance counsellor and the school she is teaching and looks defeated.
Just a little of Maddox in her life, bring that spark back. And with it more complication.
It's a beautiful, slow-burn romance, that made me feel all the feels. It's romance, heartbreaking, but oh so romantic. :)
The start of the book is fantastic, I was in love with both characters after just a few pages. I didn't like the ending so much, but it was still good. What was the best part, was the dialogue between Maddox and his sunshine girl. He is the ultimate book boyfriend <3
Received the ARC from Xpresso Book Tours, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I don't even know where to begin with how beautiful this book was. I felt so connected to Ava in the beginning, with how she walked her own path in life, and I felt so connected to her again when she realized she was stuck in life and had let outside forces dim her light. She found her way, though, and I have the immediate need to go cross some things off my bucket list after a deep soul check courtesy of Maddox.
Maddox (*sigh*). He makes me believe in true love. He fell hard and fast for the wild girl who inspired him to find his own freedom in life, and he kept those feelings for ten years, even after finding his sunshine girl again - he waited for her to be ready.
I cried. I swooned. I fell in love. I felt EVERYTHING. Thank you Eve for letting me have an advanced copy of your beautiful book!
**I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own!**
Honestly, why isn’t this book talked about more? This is INCREDIBLE. I could not put it down and this is the sole reason why I ended up making dinner at 8:30p because I could not stop. This book was beautiful and I should have known it would wreck me when it opened with a Neruda quote. Eva Kasey masterfully wove a story of forbidden love and unbelievable growth and took the soul mates trope and knocked it into the stratosphere. This is easily one of the best books I’ve read ever in my life (and that’s a lot of books dude). The push and pull of Maddox and Ava was so painful and heart wrenching. The concept of right person wrong time hits so close to home with me and this is… UGH. Such a damn book hangover. I’m in my feelings. Everyone needs to read this book. I’m now making it my responsibility to tell everyone I know about this BEAUTIFUL book. Every aspect of this book was incredible. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Amazing amazing amazing.
𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁? This story is first love, being drawn to someone for no known reason other than needing to be with them. I loved the beginning, how Maddox and Ava met, the time they spent together, how they drew it out, not wanting it to end. The What Ifs they carried since walking away.
And while this is a romance, it read more like a woman's fiction to me. Ava's journey to discover who she was again, who she dreamed of becoming when she walked away from Maddox. She needed to find the part of herself she lost. She shrunk to fit who Leo, her fiance, wanted her to be.
All the romance was there-- the angst, the tension, the craving of the other person. ALL there is true Eve fashion. But for whatever reason, I was focused on Ava and her journey.
This is the perfect book for anyone who loves woman's fiction and romance. I believe this story has the perfect balance blending the two. Wonderful read!!
This was my first book by Eve Kasey and it will definitely not be my last! The writing is absolutely beautiful. The emotions in this book are so real and so raw. I would get butterflies one moment and then be teary-eyed the next. After one night together, Ava and Maddox go their separate ways- off to college and young professional life. When they find each other again 10 years later, a lot has changed. Ava is engaged and different from the girl Maddox once knew and fell in love with. As they keep coming into contact with one another, old feelings continue to re-emerge. I absolutely loved Ava and Maddox's story! Can't Help Loving You will give you love, steam, real emotions, family dynamics, and so much more. I highly recommend picking this one up and be ready for a great story!
Thank you so much to the author for my advanced copy. 4.5 stars, rounded to 5
Eve Kasey and her words are literal magic. This story left me breathless, aching and falling in love so damn hard. I loved every single word of it!!
Ava and Maddox's love is like no other I have ever read. Their love was effortless. It was swift, patient and timeless. They meet and share the most beautiful day together. One they would carry in their heart for ten years before fate brings them back together except this time they aren't the same people they once knew and Ava is engaged to another man.
"Eleven years ago, he'd caught a glimpse of a girl on a city street and followed her light. Ten years later, she'd walked back into his as if drawn there by fate. That feeling, that settling in his soul he felt with his sunshine girl? He wouldn't trade it for anything."
The slow burn is real but I promise you it will be worth it!!
