On the Rocks #4

Blame It on the Whiskey

Rate this book
Friends to lovers... she just needs a little liquid courage.

I’ve been best friends with Parker since we were little and he punched a boy in the face for pulling my hair. We tell each other everything. Well, almost everything. I may have left out the fact that I’ve also been in love with him since forever.

But he’s Parker. He was the captain of the football team, most popular boy in school and could date any woman he wanted. Now, he’s a big, buff military guy that’s on leave.

Then there’s me. Bartender/college student. Voted class nerd in high school – unofficially of course. I went to libraries instead of dances and I have more curves than Parker’s last three girlfriends combined.

I’ve always kept my crush on Parker hidden. It’s better that way.

Until one night, and I do things that are either going to tear us apart... or bind us forever.

Yea, I think I’m going to blame it on the Whiskey.

Preface

More sweet than steamy. I didn’t feel particularly ecstatic about the plot given that they had been friends for years and he never had noticed her. It was also alleged that he had other girlfriends at the time. I hate when the guy likes the girl and still goes out with other women.

It was not exactly the case here. There had always been an underlying feeling that the Hero could not quite pinpoint, then one day when he is back from an army tour it clicks. And when he is back AGAIN for a week, it seems impossible to deny. The heroine looks different, growing more confident on her own body. According to the hero, that was not the variable that made his feelings for her come to the surface, even if the jealousy was significant in making him possessive quicker.

My rating increased when it was revealed that the hero was a virgin too! Making their coming together infinitely sweater than if he had not. In fact, without this particular revelation the book would have stood at a 1.5 star rating. The revelation made it 3 stars.

I liked that it managed to surprise me. Both me and the heroine were trilled lol.

Romance Safety:

Safe. Dual virgins. H had a prom date he made out with which lead the heroine to think he had been with her- he has not. There is no OW drama. There is some OM drama, which I did not mind. It was all minor, serving to make the hero possessive in a cute manner. No cheating.

What a nice satisfying read. After years being best friends Parker returns from the army to see Haven in a new light. He is the ultimate over protective and sweet hero and she is sweet and independent. This is a quick read but doesn’t gloss over details and fleshes out both characters and the short story nicely. It is a stand alone but I know this is part of a series. If you need a break and want a low angst, double virgin love story, I recommend this one. .

I liked this one! Friends to lovers but it was done correctly. Meaning the H isn't some manhoo who has a girl coming over every night to his house and the H sees it but doesn't care because they're just friends 🤦😬😬😬

This was different in the fact that it was kind of a ugly duckling type book which I effing LOVVVVVVVVE!!!! He has been away in the army and when he comes back, the girl who always wire loose clothes and no makeup is suddenly rocking out with nice clothes and trying 😂 her friend helped her out .😏

He learns that she needs money so shes been working as a bartender and he hates it. But they discover they want to be more than friends after she gets drunk and she tells him how shes loved him for years. and he sees all the pictures she has of them and him in her room when he takes care of her drunken a$$.

Cute, short book!

The couple: Parker and Haven

Romance trope: friends to lovers
Series: On the Rocks
Length: 75 pages

Plot: Parker and Haven have been best friends forever, even though Haven believes she's completely different from all his other friends and the people they hung around in high school. But they're not in school anymore; Haven has a job at the local bar and Parker's away in the military. He comes home on leave and finds himself feeling very different about Haven than before. She'll have to decide if his new interest is legitimate or not.

Commentary: Cute story, a little different than a lot of these insta-love novellas in that it wasn't a case of "he always loved her"; instead, he saw her in a new light when he got home and she had a more exciting job where other people noticed her and she was wearing new, more flattering clothes. Of course, in those cases, it must help that they know each other so well. They can speed things up, so to speak, and skip all of the getting-to-know-you stuff.

Previous book in the series: Blame It on the Rum
Next book in the series: Blame It On the Vodka

Haven and Parker have been friends forever. Nothing or no one will ever tear them apart. But, one night out together on his second night home on leave can end it all.

You see, Parker comes home early, on leave, to surprise everyone. Yet, it is Parker who gets the biggest surprise, of them all. Not only did his best friend, in the world, not tell him her secret, but she also omitted even more.

Not once, in all the at least, three times a week calls, texts, or emails, did she say that she is working, at the local bar. To say he felt, as if she lied to him, is an understatement.

What he finds out, sees, and experiences around his best friend have changed and he sees her in a whole different light. Coming to realize, maybe he always did and is just starting to be aware of his truth concerning her.

I have to say I enjoyed this story. Especially, the important truths, that they reveal to one another that, bring so much to light. It goes to show, that even when you feel you are true friends with someone.

Someone you feel you know everything thing about, it may not be true. Because we are all fearful at times, that someone may not like us. So, we hold back. When taking a chance, can be the ticket to, a great future.

What do you do when you confess your true feelings for your best friend? Blame it on the whiskey. I loved this best friends to lovers romance about lifelong friends Haven and Parker. I loved their friendship and close bond. I loved his protectiveness and caring heart. I loved her independence and devotion. These two were made for each other!!

After high school Parker left to join the military. His best friend Haven has been by his side since elementary school and continues to be his rock while he’s away. When he comes home for a visit, they see each other in person for the first time in three years. Parker realizes that he feels more for Haven than friendship but Haven has gotten really good at hiding her feelings over the years. A night spent catching up with friends leads to a few too many shots of whiskey. Loved the sweet and the steam that came with this wonderfully written romance. I would definitely recommend reading the story of Haven and Parker.

Haven and Parker, the lead characters, have been friends since they were 10 years old and, whilst there’s been an attraction for a years, neither has wanted to damage their friendship. But Haven’s new makeover and the following male interest make Parker stand up and take notice and action. He wants a full life with her, not just a friendship, and whiskey drunk Haven had told him it’s a real possibility…

This short story is dual POV, well written, and a cute friends-to-lovers romance. I enjoyed the genuineness of both lead characters’ struggle to maintain the friendship in the face of building attraction.

Parker and Haven are perfect foils and have the right blend of sweet and sexy to get the reader hooked good. I am a sucker for this series in general but this latest installment of the “On the Rocks” series features one of my favourite tropes! The “missed connection” trope is near and dear to my heart especially when it’s best friends through their teen years. Parker and Haven are seeing one another during one on Parker’s military leaves when he finds out she is now working at a bar and WOW do things kick off to a great start. If you’re looking for a good lunchtime/breaktime read, this is the one. .

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

Haven and Parker have been best friends since they were 10, Parker grows up to be an athletic hottie who joins the military while Haven is the curvy nerd who would rather study than party. But through it all they remained best friends. Getting leave a week early Parker surprises his family who are thrilled to see him home safe. When he finds out from his brother that Haven is working at On The Rocks bar he’s not happy. He surprises her there and is surprised right back at how hot she looks. Her friend gives her a style makeover by ditching all her old baggy clothes and helping her pick all new clothes that fit her better and show off her beautiful curvy figure. Parker is finding himself aroused by her new look. They spend time talking and the next day he brings her to a party his brother throws for him at On The Rocks. There a mean girl hits on Parker in front of everyone. He and Haven leave the table and Haven does a few whiskey shots to deal with everything, the mean girl, her feelings for Parker, and the fact that she saw his masturbating earlier that morning, while saying her name at the end. He asks her to fake date him to keep the other girls away. She reluctantly agrees. After another shot she gets sleepy while snuggled in Parker’s arms. He takes her home where she confesses to being in love with him and asks for a kiss. Parker not wanting to take advantage of a drunk Haven agrees to one kiss. The next morning she’s scared she will lose Parker but they have a heart to heart and confess everything. They have their first time together later that night. Dual virgins! (Friends to lovers is one of my least favorite troupes, how can you not know this person is your one, and it always sucks for one of them cause the other goes on blissfully dating and banging other people while one just quietly pines away.) But Parker tells her even though he dated it never felt right so he never slept with anyone. Epilogue six months later with him stationed across the country, he asks her to visit and proposes at the airport. It was so great how his parents and brother loved her, especially loved when his mom tells her how she hoped Haven would be her daughter in law one day.

Communication, Not Whiskey, Works Best . . .

This is another story line where communication is the key to making things work right. Parker and Haven have been long-term best friends from childhood. Haven has always loved him but fears loss of the friendship if she tells him honestly how she feels. Without any conversation about it, she decides (for him) that he wouldn’t like her anyway because he was a popular athlete and she is more of a nerd.

So when Parker comes home on leave, his first thought is on Haven. When they are together, he notices the shift in his feelings and begins to realize that he may be in love with her! But even he doesn’t rush to talk with her about moving forward into a relationship. It takes a night of Haven over-indulging in whiskey which makes her say more than she normally would, and Parker finally decides to make his move. Will this open up the communication that is woefully needed between these two? Will they reach for that HEA or run from it in embarrassment?

It is frustrating when two people know each other so well and care so deeply, but are afraid telling the truth or talking about it will destroy their entire friendship! It may be a surprise or a bit awkward (if the other has kept their head buried in the sand and is unaware) – although if they learned to communicate all along, it would be a non-issue. Falling in love doesn’t require giving up all that you have shared together over the years. The alternative of not talking about it is to suffer in silence until the tension itself can drive the “friends” apart! Will they both stay silent about how they feel now? Or will one of them find the courage to be honest, speak up, and trust that maybe the other person also feels that way?

Ms. Ford has done it once more! She's given us a story that grabs your heart and just will not let go. The problem is, you don't want her to let go!

Haven and Parker have been best friends since they were 10. Parker was popular, into sports, basically everything Haven wasn't. She considers herself a nerd. Parker always included her in everything during school.

After graduation Parker joins the Army and they don't drift apart, they're becoming even closer.

Haven leaves her job at the Library and starts working at On The Rocks the local bar. She doesn't tell Parker and asks his family not to mention it. Well, he surprises everyone by coming home a week earlier than expected. That's when he finds out...it doesn't go over very well lol

Meanwhile, Haven has gotten a mini makeover, clothes-wise, and is getting all kinds of attention that she is Not used to.

I most definitely recommend this book. It's a wonderful quick read that will keep you smiling.

CERTIFIED BANGER!! I’ve quickly become obssessed with this series. I’ve read the first 4 books all on one day.

Haven and Parker are something special. I love how Haven knows who she is. When she as she tries out a new style and coincidentally starts receiving all this attention, she thinks that what’s finally gets Parker interested in her. Little does she know the love has been there all along. While the romantic feelings may have been solidly hers for a long time, Parker has always internally known his relationship with Haven is something special.

Sometimes home isn’t a place, it’s a person. And that is so true for this book. Parker and Haven are intrinsically bound and full of such devotion and mutual respect for each other.

Every book in this series has been so incredible. I love how they’re taken common tropes in the genre and making them into this poignant and dimensional short stories. With MC that have personalities and attractions to each other that go beyond the physical. I can tell this is a series that I will be re-reading again and again in the future.

This was a great friends to lovers story! Haven and Parker are perfect for each other. You can feel their chemistry pop every time they are together. Each character came to life as I read along. Haven is working as a bartender at On the Rocks while finishing college. When Parker comes home on leave from the Army he can’t wait to see her. She’s not just his best friend she’s also his rock and he’s not happy once he finds her working as a bartender. I loved how protective Parker became when he sees Haven working behind the bar. It’s like the blinders were lifted and he sees her in a whole new light. As everyone knows alcohol has a way of loosening those deeply buried secrets, Haven is no different. Read Blame it on the Whiskey to see how Haven works things out with Parker. This is another great story by Hope Ford you don’t want to miss!.

This book is a part of the On the Rocks series and focuses on Parker and Haven. Parker and Haven have been best friends since they were kids. Parker joined the Army as soon as he graduated high school 3 years prior and Haven stayed in Redwood while getting her degree. When Parker came home on his last leave he felt different about Haven but couldn’t figure out what had changed. Haven had been in love with Parker since she was a kid but never said anything because she didn’t think he would be interested in her that way and didn’t want to ruin their relationship if he didn’t feel the same. When Parker comes home early for his leave, things definitely change for both of them. I absolutely loved everything about this story! I loved seeing Parker and Haven finally get the HEA that everyone knew they would have once they gave in to their feelings. Excellent addition to the series!

Parker and Haven have been best friends since they were kids. Haven has been in love with Parker for as long as she can remember but was always scared to say anything for fear of ruining their friendship. Not only that, but Haven feels that she's not Parker's type since he was popular and played sports in high school while she stuck to the library.

Now home on leave from the Army all Parker can think about his seeing his best friend. He's noticed some changes in her and he's experiencing some jealous moments as well. It hits Parker that he's in love with Haven.

One night of too much whiskey has Haven revealing more than she ever would when sober, setting Parker on a course to claim his girl. This was such an accurate best friends to lover story - both scared to lose the amazing lifelong friendship they have while yearning for everything they could be. I love the tender moments they shared once they revealed how they truly felt.

Enjoy Redwoods.
Wonderful story. Parker and Haven have been best friends since they were ten years old. Haven has loved him the whole time but, he doesn’t know it. Parker surprises Haven when arrives on leave a week early. For him things have been changing for a couple of years between him and Haven. He plans to find out what’s going on with them. No matter what happens she will always be his best friend but, now he wants more for both of them. Parker finds out more than he bargained for after Haven has too much to drink while they’re out with friends. The next morning Haven knows that she has to avoid Parker at all costs. Too bad he’s waiting for her in her living room. Does drinking bring honesty? Not sure I agree with that one. What I do know is BF’s are forever.

Blame it on the Whiskey is a sweet and steamy friends to lovers story that will have your heart melting as you turn each page.

Haven and Parker have been friends since they were ten, and over the years they only gotten closer even when he left for the army. Haven has been pretty much on her own, but when her father left, she took a job as a bartender. Parker came home on leave, a week earlier than expected, when he walked into the bar and saw Haven, the feeling he has been struggling with over the past year clicked into place.

Haven and Parker's tale is fun, hot with a bit of twist that grabs you from the start and keeps to the end. Their connection and chemistry heat up the pages that even a cool drink has a hard time to douse.

The fourth installment of the awesome multi-author On the Rocks series, Hope Ford's Blame it on the Whiskey is a fabulously swoon-worthy best friends-to-lovers romance. Parker and Haven have been best friends forever but have never crossed the line to anything further - despite Haven having loved him from the beginning. When he comes home on leave from the Army, Parker quickly realizes that his feelings for Haven are bigger than just being her best friend - especially when he cannot stop his body from reacting whenever she merely touches him. Will they be brave enough to tell each other how they feel, or will they just blame it on the whiskey?

An entertaining, sweet, and super sexy friends-to-lovers, Blame it on the Whiskey is yet another must-read in this fantastic series!

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is a short, friends to lovers romance in the On The Rocks series. Haven and Parker have never wanted to jeopardize their long standing friendship. But there comes a time when you realize what you really want and go for it. These two finally do and find a special love that has been growing between them for years. I liked both characters, Parker is a protective man and Haven brings out that side in him. There is humor, jealousy, tension, determination, friendships, romance, lust and love. The book is well written, short, sweet and steamy .

Haven and Parker have been best friends, he is the hot jock and she is the nerdy girl. He turned down scholarships to play football to go into the military. They talk often, and he is coming for a visit soon. She has been in love with Parker the whole time she has known him.

Parker is home visiting, all he wants to do is spend time with Haven, something has changed. He is feeling things for her but does not want to ruin their friendship. One night when Haven drinks too much whiskey he finds out her true feelings.

This was a sweet and steamy read, these slowly developed into something more.

Parker and Haven story is a sweet steamy friends to lovers story in the On The Rocks series. Parker is in the Army and coming home on leave and Haven is his best friend and works at On The Rocks. Haven hasn’t told Parker she works at the bar yet because she knows he won’t approve. Parker is home on leave a week early and the moment he steps into the bar and sees Haven he knows what he’s been feeling lately isn’t just friendship anymore. Haven has been in love with Parker for years and is afraid to show him, that he won’t return her feelings or that it’ll ruin their friendship. I LOVED this book and highly recommend it to everyone! It has all the feels and the steamy side too!.

This story is a short, charming, spicy friends-to-lovers romance. Haven has been in love with her best friend for a long time. For the last few years Parker has felt an emptiness inside when he's not with Haven. Will they risk it all to admit their true feelings? When Haven has too much to drink one night, can she blame her actions on the alcohol? Will Parker go along with her excuses or is it time to tell the truth? This short romance is told in dual POV, with good character development, engaging plot, nice supporting cast, realistic conversations and a refreshing surprise at the end. Very entertaining with some emotional content and good love scenes. I enjoyed this romance!

First things first; I like the cover of this book!
Blame it on the whiskey is a novella in the ‘’on the rocks’’ collection.
This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. Parker and Haven have been best friends for years. When Parker returns home for a week from the military, will they become more than best friends?
The chemistry between Parker and Haven is clear to see and I liked them together. I also liked the friendship between them.
I liked the ending and the epilogue for this story.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read.

Wonderful story. Haven and Parker have been friends since they were young. They have been there for each other through thick and thin. Haven has a new job and a new look and she's been getting a lot of attention. Parker comes home a week early and goes to the bar On the Rocks and finds Haven working there as a bartender. He is floored with her new look. He's also jealous and doesn't want anyone else looking at her. They have the most amazing chemistry and I love their relationship. They are not only best friends, but lovers as well. Beautiful story.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Haven and Parker. Haven is trying a new look but isn't quite sure of it. When her old friend comes home from the military and doesn't look happy she doesn't know what is going on. Parker knew that he was developing feelings for Haven for awhile but it was something he thought he could ignore while overseas. Now that he is home and sees her new look there is no holding back. Can these two find a HEA or will this just be the end of a friendship?

Amazing story by this author. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I loved this one! I have been loving this whole series but friends to lovers is my jam and this one delivers. Haven has been in love with Parker since they were young but she felt like she never had a chance and was content to be friends. Parker was the all around good guy but oblivious to his friends feelings. Home on leave, he suddenly see's her a new light after seeing her working her new job at the bar and a wardrobe change. This one starts out sort of soft before gaining traction and the heat getting turned up. Loved this story!.

Parker and Haven have been best friends since they were ten years old. Parker is home on leave and has surprised his family and Haven. One look at her and he knows what the ache in his chest has been. He’s fallen in love with his best friend. Haven is in love with Parker but doesn’t think he feels the same way about her. How could someone as good looking as him go out with a curvy girl like her. This was an awesome read. Parker and Haven were cute together and had plenty of chemistry.
