A series of colorful short stories about the Cuban American experience in southern Florida, pulling no punches about confronting racism, prejudice and the callousness we all can be tempted into indulging. Does a good job of inculcating non-Latino readers into the local culture and lore without too much handholding. Having Google open to parse occasional Spanglish is a good strategy.
