Sons of Norhill Tops #1

Inheriting Trouble

Rate this book
Moving to Norhill Tops seemed like a good idea at the time. She thought it would be the escape she needed, little did she know it was only more trouble adding up. Does she put her trust in the town and the people in it, especially the hunky sheriff who seems to think of her as a pain?

I was so excited that we get a whole new series that has nothing to do with MCs from this author. Don’t get me wrong, I love all of her MC books but it was nice to see that she can write some thing else aside from MC. Dakota‘s immediate family is toxic and finally she has an option to get away from them after she inherits a distant relative’s closedown resort. She jumped at the chance to move to the small town and restore the resort to it’s former glory. Lawson, the sheriff of Norhill Tops, doesn’t like any new people coming into his town without vetting them personally but when his friend and the lawyer of the town says give Dakota a chance he reluctantly backs off. Sparks fly from their first meeting. But they really fly when her toxic family show up and try to move in on her inheritance. Will Dakota and Lawson be able to keep them at bay? Great start to a promising series!!

This book proves that EC can write more than just MC books. She did such a fantastic job with Lawson and Dakota’s story. If you read Santa’s Little Helpers: 2nd edition, you got to read the first few chapters of this book. Dakota used to live in Norhill Tops when she was younger until her mom remarried and moved. She hasn’t been back since because of her mother and stepfather. Now she is back wanting to revive the resort she inherited. When she sees Lawson, they don’t remember each other from before, at least not at first. This is when the fun begins. Dakota is full of fire and sass. She is not scared to voice her opinions about what she thinks of Lawson. 🤣🤣 Lawson is the Sheriif and is allllll alpha and when he sees Dakota, there is something about her that makes him want her. The banter and back and forth between these two had me laughing. When trouble comes to her, he is going to do whatever it takes to deal with the trouble so she doesn’t have to. I loved these two and can’t wait for the other’s stories. I am completely hooked on this town and it’s inhabitants. This story kept me hooked from the beginning to the end.

Sheriff Lawson Burns was not happy with the news that estate left by Russell Downs was to his great-niece Dakota Downs. He just hoped that she didn't sell to Alpine Energy who has been sniffing around the now run-down former resort. Dakota had received notification of her great-uncle's death, but since her mother refused to let her attend other relative's funerals on her father's side, felt like she would have been out-of-place to attend, and was surprised to find out about her inheritance...but after discovering her dead-beat boyfriend in their bed with her stepsister...the small-town former resort was calling her name, with Dakota determined to revive the resort to it's former glory...and reconnecting with who she used to follow around as a little girl at his childhood home, now the sheriff, Lawson Burns...but will he remember her???I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I have been waiting and hoping to get the rest of these two fabulous characters and to discover more about the town that has captured my heart. I was all in from the very beginning. Dakota is full of fire and sassiness. She is not hesitant to voice her opinions about anything including Lawson. He is the Sheriif and 100% alpha. He expects people to listen and follow his orders. Their bantering had me giggling out loud at times! My husband even asked me what was so funny so I read parts to him. 😉☺️ When trouble comes calling can Lawson keep her safe? Can he convince her to let him help her? Is there a chance for a HEA with them? Check this one out and see! It is so worth it! A must read for sure! I can not wait to read the next book!

I loved reading this book it's always good to get hooked into a book that isn't MC related though this book isn't without its drama it certainly hits differently.
Dakota having lost her father young had been living with her mother, step father and his daughter until she gets unexpected news from an attorney that she has inherited a hotel.
Sheriff Lawson takes his job seriously enough to know when newcomers come to town he just never expected it to be the little girl he used to babysit.. the connection these two have is sweet and the protectiveness of him aswell as everyone in the town of Dakota makes for a really enjoyable read..I can't wait to read about her fiesty friend aswell as Lawsons friends.

She finds more than just her inheritance

Inheriting Trouble is the first book in the Sons of Norhill Tops series. The story is about Dakota and Lawson and is a wonderful story and romance. She has inherited a rundown resort on five hundred acres from her great uncle. He is the Sheriff of Norhill Tops. Dakota moved to the resort and starts a new life, one away from her mother, stepfather, stepbrother and ex-boyfriend. But they try to block everything she does and that includes trying to steal the property from her. But it is Lawson who ends up putting a stop to her family's interference and who will also stop at nothing to get Dakota to be his. What they have together is a banter filled romance that is filled with a lot of sparking passion between them.

This is a great start to a new series. The characters are take charge people, who let nothing stand in their way.
Dakota has moved back to her hometown after she inherits the family property and money. She is going to restore to its former glory.
Lawson is the local sheriff and isn’t ready for the whirlwind that is Dakota. He is instantly attracted to her and takes what he wants.
They both start to remember things from when they where younger, before her fathers death and her mother moving her away from the family that loved her.
They are like fire to a wood stack and just as bright together. Their love is built on honesty and love, and they will protect each other no matter what.

I love EC's MC books so I took a chance and I'm so glad I did. Dakota used to live in Norhill Tops when she was little and hasn't been back since she was little. She returns years later to restore a resort she just inherited. Dakota is full of sass and has not a care in the world when it comes to voicing her opinions about Lawson. When he sees Dakota he want to make her his. The banter and back and forth between these two was great and I laughed my butt off. Being the man that he is he shows his alpha side when it comes to dealing with the trouble that blows her way. I can't wait to read more.

I adore to this author to begin with so was excited when I saw they started a new series. Dakota inherited a resort that’s in disarray. Sheriff Lawson realizes he knew her as a child and decides to help her all the while trying to keep her safe from greedy people. Reading how their love story evolves and me from page one. This has to be a new favorite couple for me. I spent the whole time hoping for a happily ever after. This is he first story i the series and I can’t wait to read more. All of the other characters are fascinating and can’t wait to see more about them. This is a not to be missed series.

A great start to a new series by EC Land. I loved reading about Lawson and Dakota . They had so much chemistry and the story was great and believable. Not the usual type of story that Ms Land writes about, and whilst I love all her MC series, it was refreshing to read something new and with so many wonderful characters. This book had me hooked from the first page until the end and I am looking forward to reading more books in this series and to see what Ms Land has in store for Lawson’s twin brother and his friends.

Inheriting Trouble is one of those stories that once you pick it up you do not want to put it down. Lawson is hot and such an Alpha that he would have you melting just by a look. Dakota is strong and independent, her feistiness is so over the top, I wish I had part of her strength.

This story will take you on a wild ride of family deceit, lies and drama that will have you rolling your eyes so hard. The strength and family love of the town of Norhill Tops adds to the mix of Lawson and Dakota's story that you will find yourself lost in the pages.

I could read this book several times.
Lawson was a great character and so was Dakota. Dakota finds out she has inherited a her father's family property and money. Which is something she is excited for because she is stuck being around her evil mother and stepfather and their daughter. She hopes that she is able to restore the old inn and start a new life better than what she had. Lawson is the sheriff and is worried about someone new coming to his town and wants to know what her plans are. They both eventually find out that they knew each other very closely in the past and it makes them come together and stand up to the people that are out to hurt them.

2.75 - It was okay, but it could have been so much more.

Sheriff could have investigated more: first time he went to resort he didn’t walk around the property to see if anything was amiss after she’d heard noises the night before; he was right there when the brick went through the window, but he never even looked out to see if they were still in danger or to see if a car was driving away.

It also would have been nice to know what the lawyer found out about Dakota’s family or been included when Dakota found evidence against them at the resort. It was just wrapped up in a bow - they did bad, we can prove it, now go away so we can live HEA. The end!

Starts off with a bang. Dakota finds out that she inherited a resort and lots of money. Catching her boyfriend and stepsister in bed just pushes her to claim it.

Right away Lawson and Dakota create sparks. Anger quickly turns into hot passion between them and it never stops. Lawson is domineering and Dakota can’t help butting heads with him.

Only regret is that the conflict with Dakota’s mom ended rather mildly. Wanted her to get what was coming to her and the rest of them.

Looking forward to seeing which hottie Sarah decides to take on.

As a fan of E. C. Land's MC romances, this book was not what I expected, but was still a good read. Inheriting Trouble is the first book in the series based in the small town of Norhill Tops. After recently inheriting a closed resort, Dakota intends to restore it to its former glory. Her toxic family and Ex have other plans in mind. As Sheriff of the town, Lawson is all in on making Dakota his and protecting her interests. Lawson is over the top alpha male and Dakota is just the right amount of sassy to his bark. Good characters, plenty of steamy romance, high on drama but low on suspense.

The first book in the Sons of Norhill Tops series started off strong, No slow burn there! Lawson and Dakota had a very strong connection right away. The plot was so intriguing, it kept me engaged all the way through to the HEA. There’s some drama with her evil family and I loved how the whole town came together to back her up. I’m anxious to read Lawson’s friends’ stories. This is going to be a Very good series. *this was a complimentary copy via BookSprout and this is my honest review*

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.

This is the first book in the Sons of Norhill Tops series, it can be read as a standalone story, no cliffhangers. Inheriting Trouble is well-written and something completely different some EC Land. I really enjoyed this story, the storyline is interesting and well thought out. Dakota moves back to Norhill Tops to renovate and reopen her family's old resort. Lawson is the sheriff and is instantly attracted to the smart mouthed beauty. I can't wait for the next book.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. Dakota has returned to Norhill Tops. She and Lawson have sparks that fly between them. He is the perfect match to her personality. Lawson is protective, possessive and the right man to have her back. There is drama, family, turmoil, friendship, understanding, acceptance, passion and love. I liked this story and thought the characters were done well. I look forward to what comes next in the series.

I have read all the author's stories and this new series is not her usual type, but I loved it. Dakota is back in town to renovate the resort she inherited, she moved away when her mother remarried. When she sees Lawson, neither remember each other from back then, in the beginning. There is something about Dakota that brings out the protective alpha in the sheriff.

These two are perfect for each other, the heat picks up between them. I cannot wait for more in this series.

Wow what a different style proves that EC Land is an amazing author. Picked this up because it is not her usual writing and wanted to see what she had. I was not dissappointed. Dakota has inherited her families land and resort and plans to reopen it. Her mother has other ideas when she finds out and tries to wreck havoc on her. Will the Sheriff be able to protect her and win her heart? Wonderful beginning to a new series.

This is definitely a different kind of read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Dakota and Lawson’s story had me turning the pages. He’s all alpha and she’s full of sound and quick comebacks. They grew up together until Dakota moved and now she’s back in town after inheriting a resort. She’s left her cheating ex behind and her horrible excuse for a mother to start fresh. Sparks fly, smoking chemistry, but trouble is just around the corner. Great read, I found this book on BookSprout.

When Dakota learns she's inherited 500 acres and property at Norhill Tops from a distant relative, she heads there for a fresh start. Lawson is Sherif and wants the best for his town, and that's not having alpine energy bustling in. When Dakota and Lawson meet, sparks do fly. This is a small town romance with a sassy headstrong woman and a determined Sherif. Well written engaging, steamy funny moments and more.

This was a great start to a new series and proves this author can write any genre! This book was so fun. Lawson and Dakota were a mess, but it was so fun watching them get together. I laughed in so many places in this book, and that is when I know that a book is really stellae ... when it has good humorous parts in it and this one did. It had that as well as a great love story and just great character development and a great plot. This is a fantastic read!

Great book

Not her usual type but still a great book with your alpha male and strong woman to stand by his side. Dakota and Lawson have known each other from when they were kids but then she left town and was lost to him until she inherited her great uncle's resort and land. Slowly she brought the resort back to life and Lawson and Dakota heated up the sheets. Her mother tried to stop her at every turn even having her ex boyfriend come and threaten her.

This book is completely different to what I'd usually expect from this author. It's a small town romance, a genre I really like.

The story was well put together and ready to read with likable characters.

I would read the rest of the series.
