Whenever I learn of new artists, I like to review books I've had in my library for years to see if I had already seen their work without recognizing the artist. This book is such a favorite. It is maybe eight inches long and five inches wide but at least four inches thick. Hence the name "Little Big Art Book."

It starts back with the earliest records of art, pre-historic wall paintings, then ancient Egyptian and Greek art, moving it's way up to Roman, Early Christian, then Gothic, Renaissance, etc..it stops at Post-Impressionism, however, which I found surprising. Maybe the book was getting too thick.

Each era of art history has a concise, but informative overview of that time period and plenty of good quality, glossy, color photos of art works. I always add that because when I am considering to buy an art book I want to know if the prints are in black and white or color. I wish more reviewers would do the same.

This is a big treasure in a small package, and a great introduction to Western Art.

I loved this book. It is pocket size but a wealth of history of the beginnings of art. Many good quality prints. Some I have not seen before.
