Four days after a mysterious electromagnetic pulse knocks out the power grid and unusual storms around the globe cause widespread devastation, the country crumbles in the aftermath. As Laura and her son Charlie embark on a dangerous journey out of Florida to reach her brother Tommy in Tennessee, a third attack sends shock waves through the earth, causing earthquakes of epic proportions. As the United States spirals into chaos, survivors must decide what to do to save those they love.
Back in the Black Hills of South Dakota, John Sheridan struggles to defend the homestead as tensions rise between rival motorcycle clubs gathered for the biggest rally in the world and law enforcement. With so many lies told and secrets kept, it’s hard to know who to trust, let alone who to fight.
As unforeseen enemies converge upon the town of Deadwood and questions arise about Frank Olsen’s involvement in the Scout Miller case, there’s no telling what the outcome will be, only that innocent blood will be shed.
When Humanity Ends is the second book in the After it Turns Dark series. This high-octane, post-apocalyptic thriller with flawed characters explores the world after an electromagnetic pulse knocks out power when society needs it the most. No lights. No phones. No transportation. This captivating family saga reveals what desperate people could be driven to do to survive at the worst time.

Life has away of keep on kicking you while you are down to see what you are made of. Another great read by the author. The story is about John and his family who are survivors.
Lot's of non stop action. There is so much calamity going on, yet Jack really does a good job of not losing sight of the main characters humanity and doing whatever it takes to keep their loved ones safe.
Can't believe this author is a best seller. Very sloppy delivery entry level reading. Should we believe a propane tank can rupture and explode that way? NO. Can we believe the police are not in swat gear during or before an attack? No. As for the regulators this name taken from another author. What happened to 81? This is Angles territory the only club with a permanent club house, outlaws have a large presents in Sturgis rallies, not so much other clubs except a few local Indian clubs. Traveling in a modified golf cart cross country I doubt it. Finding a pistol in an antique store lets get real.A nurse who can't take care of her own wound and then starts seeing and hearing thing because of an infection.
I didn't think this was quite as exciting and action-packed as When The World Turns Dark although it was still a page-turner and I really enjoyed it. I still don't know what to believe about Frank and am interested to see which of his stories turns out to be the true one.
So I'm continuing to read the series of Apocalypse porn. The book and the plot haven't gotten really any better and actually seem to be getting more and more walking dead-ish where the concept that the only solution is violence and loyalty is going to be the only solution That's possible. I read the about the author section this time and this dude's written dozens and dozens of books basically about the same subject and I'm starting to wonder how that's even possible. AI is probably writing these things although I suspect they would have to train the AI in a lot of information to make it not read ridiculous. I wonder if the authors name is even real as it's kind of an obscene Bart Simpson Moe's bar telephone gag. But if it's his real name, I am sorry for that inference. Anyway, the new theme is now that the cops are incompetent, and that the bikers are still navy seal like even though I don't know how that would ever happen. The concept of loyalty is now tantamount and basically anyone they meet who's not part of their group is suspect and not to be trusted. Very walking dead like. I wonder if this will get my review canceled, but I almost suspect, having recently read prequel by Rachel Maddow, that this whole book series and maybe this entire genre is a construction of a foreign power trying to spread fear and anxiety amongst the American public. Not only that, it's the only way I think that the good read score of these books in the mid fours star is possible. Let's just say like I said before, this is not Shakespeare. Anyway, I'm done ranting. Maybe the conspiracy theory feel of the genre is making me look for conspiracy theories myself.
While there is a lot of action in this book, it is largely a turf war between motorcycle gangs and the police in South Dakota, a vengeful loan shark (of course) in Tennessee and Laura and Charlie with an odd new companion in Florida. The aftermath of a devastating hurricane and an EMP is just to provide the lack of resources and not much else. Laura is supposed to be a good nurse, but apparently is not able to recognize her wound has become infected. Frank is a bit more interesting as nothing is certain except he is not very truthful. I guess we will find out the extent of his suspected perfidy in a future book.
WOW… Frank is a grade A, conniving, two-faces, a-hole. John is right to still question his motives. Elijah’s return was a twist I didn’t see coming. Hopefully it’s a good thing, and Scout can rely on him. Tommy… oh Tommy when will you ever learn! Laura taking a turn for the worse was expected, it was foreshadowed in book one. I have concerns about the path Charlie is headed, but time will tell. And what’s with the weather? Earthquakes now? The theme remains that someone is “controlling” the weather, but still no indications of who or why. Maybe book three will have some clues! Again, slightly predictable but some pleasant surprises.

Really good follow on from book 1, when the poo hits the fan chaos erupts. It seems Nobody can be trusted. What is the truth behind the ex chief of police's story? He seems to be slipping on his own dribble. Charlie and his mum are still trying to get to the safety of her brothers and collecting strays along the way. While the police are at war with the MCs there's earthquakes erupting swallowing up buildings.
Disabled veteran, John, and a young Native American girl wade through intrigue and deception. Meanwhile, Laura, John's daughter, and her son Charlie try to get from Florida to South Dakota as storms and earthquakes decimate the country. The biker gangs tear into each other as they try to gain control of what they perceive as the future crumbles back on them. More to come in hoping.
Sturgis, South Dakota during bike week an EMP occurs and of course AHBL. Just a short distance away in Deadwood a crap load of good for nothing motor cycle gang members attack the county lockup. They want to break out the rest of their gang. As the second book of the series tells the tale, the action heats up in Florida and Deadwood.
When Humanity Ends is the 2nd book in the After It Turns Dark series, and continues the standard for excellence set by the previous book. The plot, pacing, characters, dialog and even descriptions of individual settings are all top notch. There is a lot going on, with multiple story lines, but Hunt deftly combines them to create an intense and visceral reading experience. 5/5 stars! On to the next book!!
My, oh my! This second book in a triad series is worse than the first. It consists of a string of cliches and gross content errors. Based on other reviews, there is an audience for this author’s contributions, but I am not to be included in this group.
Normally, I would read the third book in a series, however, in this instance I’m going to pass.
Not as good as the first book. But not such a complete turnoff that I will not read Book 3. The writer fell into the trap of escalating the violence at the expense of making the story predictable. Wish they would learn that a better story is about how characters deal with the situation. There is more to it than killing every opponent.
A plausible and well constructed, apocalyptic scenario The disasters, came maybe just a Little rapid fire for my tastes and a few of the characters were not entirelly fleshed out but all in all it was an entertaining and scary storyline especially with the Sturgis gathering swirling in the vortex
I had a hard time putting the book down at times, not being able to wait to find out how the characters would get through the troubles they faced. I do find myself wondering how all these earth shattering things can be happening at the same time.
It’s a good book and I’ve enjoyed reading it, and look forward to the next book.
GSWs usually don’t get infected, usually don’t need to be closed, and unless they hit an artery they don’t bleed that much. Colt Peacemakers are single action revolvers: you can’t just keep pulling the trigger; you have to cock the hammer each time.
Thanks and hats off to Jack Hunt for a very entertaining 2 book story. I like his character structure and development. He make the unreal.plausible. I thoroughly be not reading what he produces. Keep it up Jack Hunt and many thanks.
Characters weren’t all the way fleshed out, a few of the scenarios in the story line were not bad, some were good and at least one was really good. All in all it was more worth reading then not.
Read book 2 in one sitting.... Can't get enough, excellent story line that will all come together soon! Jack Hunt amazing writing, am ready for book 3. Let the wild ride continue!!
Not enough hours in the day~ And the Story continues! Sarah, Scout, Elijah, and John plan on the coming turmoil, as the town is cleaned up, and life goes back to NORMAL??? I DON'T THINK SO, HOW ABOUT YOU?
Well written, gripping, story about how people manage following an apocalyptic series of events, pos not all natural. Several different threads make it even more enjoyable to read. Will def get the next one.
Great book! I can't wait till the next one. I couldn't imagine being in a small town, with so many out-of-towners, then an empty goes off. A lot of action.
This is been a very exciting series so fat I can't wait to read the next one! The only quibble I have is with some of the phrasing. Nobody calls four sisters their "siblings" LOL! And what's a jean jacket? Other than that highly recommended!
Well written, and great to read. I’m really enjoying this series. Looking forward to the next instalment. I can see how things can go from bad to worse when least expected. The story is rolling along fine!
In Deadwood the bikers and the police have a showdown. In Florida Laura and Charlie head for Tennessee. In Tennessee Michael tries to get free from the Russian mob.
Jack Hunt has it together! Awesome read..wonderful characters, so many storylines woven together….a thrilling ride from beginning to end. Will be reading more of his books!
Not a book I was keen to ever get back to, or stay up to read the last 5% of. I found Scout and John too naive and trusting. And Scout definitely wasn't scared enough. I'll see what book three brings.
I just never got into this book. It was like someone tore three books apart and put them together. Publisher was also poor, I read aboutr halfway and about every fourth or fifth page was loose in the book. Not glued in at all, just sitting there not attached.
This was a great story, made even greater by the well-developed characters. There were several places where there was quite a bit of suspense; I could hardly put the book down. I highly recommend this series! Jack Hunt is a great writer!
