Born to Die #1

Wicked Heart

Rate this book
You might think a city without its Bloody Princess would be boring... but then you'd be wrong.

I'm the queen, after all. I rule the DeLuca empire in Bianca's stead, and it's so much more fun than I thought it would be. People fear me because I killed their Bloody Princess, and they tremble in their boots when I don my mask. I don't even need my dangerously sexy men behind me to make an impression.

But, you know, they're still nice to have.

I'm the Night Slayer. I can take care of myself. I didn't grow helpless. Something like that just doesn't go away; it runs deep in my blood and my wicked, vengeful heart.

Things are going good... until bodies start appearing. The kicker? They're all girls, and their bodies turn up with their faces mutilated.

This ain't gonna fly in my city, b*tches. Whoever's doing it? I got one message for you:

One, two,
the Night Slayer's coming for you.

*Wicked Heart is the first book in an all new trilogy featuring Lola Harding and her guys. It is best to read the A Death so Sweet series first. This is a darker romance, so if you can't handle darker topics, steer clear of this series.*

Hey guys! I'm a writer, an office worker, a wife, a mother to two dogs and two cats, and half of a strange pair of young adults who flip the houses they're living in with the goal of having no mortgage (so that I can eventually focus on my writing career!). Needless to say, I'm busy.

Still, I somehow find time to write, to read, and to enjoy life. Wish there were more hours in the day, really!

If you're active on Goodreads and have similar interests, friend me. I don't bite. Or if you'd rather follow my reviews, you can do that, too.

Happy reading!

I'm so happy to be back with Lola and her men. A new mystery with their relationship on the side. So much fun 🥰 This first book seemed a little short but I'm hoping the second would be longer. I don't know when it's gonna be released as this just released on September 1st. I can't wait 😭❤

This book kind of dragged for me. I still love the characters and definitely will be continuing, especially with the ending of this one. I feel like Lola and the boys are definitely going to be up for a challenge with this second serial killer coming around. I still can't help but feel like Harvey is the second serial killer. I really hope I'm wrong, though.

A death so sweet series was in my top ten reads of 2021 . When I heard we were going to get more from Lola ,Maddox, Sylvester and Viper I was excited to see what Candace brought us. Lola is still a badass and still standing up to the guys answering them back and going against what they tell her to and putting herself in danger . Mike Vipers brother was around a lot more in this book and I wouldn’t be surprised if Lola acquires a fourth boyfriend .I can’t wait to see who the serial killer is ,and I have a few ideas who it might be.

Oh my GOSH.

Lola is BACK baby! And she's just as psycho and st@bby as ever!

Where do I even begin!? With how Black Hearts ended, I thought I'd known where and how this would go. But oh my goodness, Candace took us for a loop! I did not see that coming, and I cannot wait for the next book in this new trilogy to come out.

Also loved to see some new and returning characters! Especially Fang :D

Highly recommend. Perfect mix of steam, drama, and serial k!ller antics. 5 stars for sure! ⭐

Lola is back and she has plans to continue her work... killing that is. And someone out there knows who she is and they're taunting her with dead women washing up all over the city. If you've read the prior trilogy which you absolutely need to before diving in (don't worry the author does sort of rehash enough to refresh your memory if it's been a while) you will know Lola is a serial killer but she has a type. Any man who takes advantage of a woman in any way will face Lola's wrath especially now with her taking over the Bloody Princess's spot and running the city with her men by her side. I did enjoy the book but for some reason I didn't get sucked in as much as I had hoped. May have to do with the fact that it was so long since I read their original trilogy that I still felt a little like an outsider, so for newbies this would be great to read directly after.

“Lola is death, destruction, and chaos all rolled into one.”

There is a nice recap of prior trilogy for new readers. But if you haven’t read ‘A Death So Sweet’ trilogy then I recommend reading it to better enjoy the group dynamic.

As usual, the inner monologue is often hilarious with sarcasm and witty remarks from each character.
Maddox and Viper do not hide their feelings, Sylvester was able to be charming and good-natured when situations called for it.
Lola was annoying not caring for her safety by going out alone with Harvey or not wanting to change the locks. She’s a big time mob boss now and has people who love her. I know that’s who she is but I would have expected more from her after spending time with the boys.

The intimate scenes were not that interesting. With a comfortable harem situation there were no group scenes. This is a new series but it felt like a new series for them. I’m not really sure if I care to move to the 2nd book yet.

3.5 stars- I feel like this was good, but kept repeating a lot of information from the first series (which makes sense as this is a stand alone series so people need that info to continue on), but being fresh from that series I felt it was very repetitive. The last 25% though really ramped up and I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what will happen next. I need to know who the serial killer is who is watching Lola. The whole bringing Brandon's body back and Tina's head :O Also the fact that she says the voice was familiar. I need to know more !

Hot Dayum, Lola is back baby! And with a fun mystery to solve! This new installament of Lola and her guys has Lola questioning so many things about herself and her past, and it's heartbreaking to see her face old demons, but with the help of her guys and with sheer will and determination, she's able to fight for those that cannot fight for themselves and give the voiceless a voice! So excited to see where this series goes!

so sad end up DNF

Okay the first series I adored it characters strong fun to read.
I started this series and quickly realised it was continuing from previous ones and I struggle to get into it, it felt like same lines being repeated over and over , a lot of talk but nothing solid , I got bored within 10% of book, but end up DNF.
These series either should of started with action or should of been totally new story line …

loved

The stories set in the world always suck me in so fast and keep me on the edge until the very end. Lola is dealing with the aftermath of taking out the DeLucas when a nee monster steps into the scene. I can’t wait to see how things develop and I’m rooting for my girl to make that psycho pay!

Someone going to get hurt.

I love Lola so much…she is my favorite psycho! I’m so glad we are getting more of her and her guys are each hot in their own way. But, I must say Maddox and Viper have to be my favorite. Lola is still set on avenging girls from abusers, even if it means putting herself at risk. However, someone is calling her out & it’s getting messy. Can’t wait for the next book. TW/18+

Omg !

Here we go!

I'm so amped up that Lola and her men are on s hunt. She needs to get over herself and let her men hunt with her. They got this all together. I have a feeling things will get bad before better !!! Amazing. I'm continued to be torn over all 3 men but I still think Viper is my fav.

I want more about fang and the beast too!!!!

This one was a little rough for me. There was no story or plot to this book until about 48% through. And while we all love the smut in this series it felt like 85% of the scenes were sex. It felt like we lost the characters and storyline because all they did was have sex. Now that there’s a direction to the story, though, I have high hopes for the next two books.

so so good!!!!

I love a good book about serial killers especially when they are a woman hell bent on making men pay for their crimes but this book is just so much better then just good. It’s addicting and I can’t wait to read the next

Oh damn that ending was goooood. I read it with wide eyes and holding my breath- so creepy and scary! For some reason it reminded me of the movie Se7en because of the crazy deaths that occurred and boy, this book delivers on that. Can’t wait to find out who the killer is!

love the story just a little repetitive!

The story is great. I love all the characters but since I read her previous series with Lola it’s just a tad repetitive.

This was a good book, but it didn't seem to capture my interest as much as the previous series. Still very likeable characters and a decent plot.

While I do love Lola having all of the Bloody Princess’s assets and the idea of another serial killer taunting her, a lot of this one is repetitive just like the last two. I feel this could all have been done in a duet. However, I will continue to read the series just to see how at ends because I’ve come this far.

I loved the continuation of Lola's story. I'm interested to find out who the serial killer is. I have a feeling, but we shall see if I am correct or not. Lol

I had to DNR... it took more than half the book to get to the main plot and I just kept thinking it is hard to stay focused. Maybe I will pick it back up
