A Brief History of Dragons

Rate this book
It's lovely up here; all meadows dotted with wildflowers, wind-beaten tracks criss-crossing this way and that through the fields, weaving inland to the pinewoods. The sun's hot on his back as he passes ramshackle stone walls, long since crumbled to piles of ancient rubble and scree, and then the path winds downwards, still following the line of the coast until Sirius finds himself outside an old white cottage, tucked away behind the hill with a rose garden that faces out to the sea.

Sirius moves to Cornwall for the summer and meets a rude, beautiful boy who is writing a book that may or may not be about dragons.

[Highlights: this is so cute, like actually, i think i want to cry]

Very very mild spoilers? Nothing too bad, it’s not a plot-heavy fic, but if you’re extra-careful maybe hold off until after you’ve finished.

My only problem is that I wish it were longer.

This is infinitely sweet and extraordinarily lovely, and I’ll definitely keep a look out for more fics by this author. The writing was beautiful: not too flowery (something I am eternally guilty of) and not overly plain, either.

I do wish we saw a kinder side of Hope and John, but for plot purposes this works well enough.

Anxiety representation is always a welcome addition, (unfortunate that it exists, but alas), and I found it interesting that Remus’ anxiety attack was presented without a “clear reason” or some traumatic experience. As somebody who struggles with mental health and yet has never had some Big Horrible Event, it’s pretty validating to see in media.

On a lighter note, everything about this fic screams summer and coastal grandson (if that’s a thing — it’s this version of Sirius). Like?? The coastal town we wandered ‘round has TRULY never seen a love as pure as this.

"Wasn't Gawain an outcast in the end, though?"

"What do I keep telling you, Sirius?
There are infinite versions of every story. You get to choose the one you like the most."

This books was so magnificent and so well written it made me cry tears of joy.

So CUTE!!! This was adorable! It was so different from ATYD that I completely forgot about Sirius and Remus’ tragic ending in the HPU! I only wish this were longer, I could have read it for a month and been quite content!

okay so i dont think this was one of the best fanfics ive read- its cute tho.

I rate this 3.75 or 4 stars I really enjoyed it the writing was quite good which I was nervous it might not have been because of the fact some Dan fiction isn’t the best writing this writer is great at it I do kind of wish it were a little bit longer but even though it wasn’t that long it still somehow felt completely Id be happy to try more from this author and I do plan to

I was strongly afraid of this being just one more “manic pixie dream” story of a person who has an invisible disability who dies at the end or goes missing just for the main character to learn about himself, but it surprised me greatly, i love remus and i love this representation

when I started reading this I expected a very fluffy beachside footage and cozy café sort of vibe from it.

That was quickly disproved and I am not in the least bit mad about it.

Another good one from eyra
