The actual screaming I'm doing.

Garrus Vakarian is, with no exceptions save for Axel from Kingdom Hearts and Akihiko Sanada from Persona 3, my favorite game character. From the first moment that swaggering menace of a sniper came on the screen I was gone. Half the reason I devote as much time as I do to the Mass Effect games is because I did not want to lose him.

So it's amazing it took me this long to read Shakarian, or Shepard/Vakarian, fics.

But the wait was worth it. Son of Palaven, Daughter of Earth is a recontextulization of not only the First Contact War (when the Turians and Humans fought) but also how no matter their beginnings Shepard and Vakarian understand each other because they are two sides of the same coin.

Loyalty, bravery, a dash of recklessness and a whole lot of need to do right, bond these two no matter their circumstances. (Also Ashley you suck no matter what; I can't believe you would attack your friend for following orders and then get mad that she...what? Hasn't gone on a murder spree? Committed suicide because of the injustice of it all? Died so you can feel justified in your anger?)

While a bit uneven at times as the writer tried to fit in some Easter eggs (stuff Mass Effect fans would go 'I KNOW THAT SCENE' over), it brings us to an end result that I cried over. I just love these two space idiots so much.
