Overall, I enjoyed this but not as much as the first book, which I was bummed about. It still kept me engaged like the first one, but I started to lose interest and skim read (especially during the numerous sex scenes🙃). Maybe my expectations were too high? Idk, but I was expecting and left wanting a bit more. I have mixed feelings. Was still a fun read, though!😊
Some notes/thoughts:
-I loved the action/suspense in book one, and with this being a gang-life RH, I was expecting more. I was hoping things would become more intense, but that wasn’t the case. There were really only 2 action/suspense scenes: the casino thing and the graduation scene at the end.
-So. Much. Sex.🫠😵💫🥱😴 I feel like the action/suspense elements from the first book were replaced by sex scenes. There was a lot, and they were frequent. To me, they didn’t really add anything to the story or characters and started to become repetitive. I found myself hoping and waiting for other things to happen and for more plot and action/suspense, but then bam another sex scene. And again, there was never any discussions, mentions, or uses of safe-sex practices… I know it’s fiction, but c’mon… do STIs and pregnancies not exist in this world? I really hope there isn’t a pregnancy in the next book.😩🤦♀️
-The characters started to annoy me in this, especially Blair. She became the weak, whiny, sex-obsessed FMC who thinks and says she’s “badass” and/or a “queen” (but hardly acts like it) that is all too common in RHs. There were some scenes of her kicking ass and getting deeper into gang life, which were fun and interesting read, but I was left wanting more. She lost some her personality, autonomy, and “spark” from book one, which I hated. Her main personality trait became the MMCs and lusting over and having sex with them.☹️ Just wasn’t feeling it…
-There was little-to-no character development. And I feel like the relationship development was really only shown through sex. There were some non-sex-related bonding and intimate moments, but I feel like the sex overshadowed everything, which left me wanting more depth and emotion.
-I also feel like some things were brushed over and not explained really well. I have questions about a lot of things… Certain parts just felt really rushed, convenient, and underdeveloped to me. And the story and pacing felt a little off to me as well.
Despite my struggles with this, it was still a fun, short, easy read, and I enjoyed it. I’m hoping the third book and final book will pick up some of the slack and focus more on the plot, action/suspense, and characters and not have so many sex scenes lol but… idk if I see that happening.😆🤞🏻
