NO TURNING BACK When Dr. Abbie Fitzgerald found herself taken hostage and staring down the barrel of a gun, she decided that she would have an affair with the next man who walked through the door--if she lived long enough. That man was Michael Viviano, the police officer who saved her life. She couldn't have chosen better if she'd planned it. Michael was delighted with this turn of events. He fully wanted to follow up on Abbie's idea, even if she resisted his serious intentions. But first he had to smash a drug ring--and find the killer who was stalking Annie....

I will admit it is Katheen Korbel that started my long standing love-affair with the SIM line, and by that I mean the older books written in the late 80's and 90's. Only Kathleen Korbel has the talent to make me believe that a couple is deeply in love within days of meeting each other, which she does in this book convincingly. The heroine is an ER doctor, while the hero is a cop. These two meet when the heroine is held hostage and the hero intervenes. Obviously, there is a suspense plot with the missing second suspect and a larger drug ring which keeps the hero around in the heroine's orbit. The hero is divorced, with his ex not being able to handle his job, which poses a problem when the h/H grow closer and she wants him to open up. I liked how the author handled the heroine dealing with her fears for the hero with the dangerous job that he did. I bought their instant connection and how these two slowly start to work out the doubts and fears between them. All in all a nice oldie.

PS: Not sure how this connects to the Kendall series?

Dr. Abbie Fitzgerald is taken hostage when a gunman enters ER and demands heroin. The situation ends with a cop injured saving her life. This is the 2nd such situation for Abbie, having been held as hostage in a grocery robbery when she was 14. That time a cop died. Needless to say Abbie is uncomfortable when the injured cop, Michael Viviano, becomes interested in her personally. Can she deal with his work? They are continually thrown together as the drug robbery is linked to a bigger drug situation and she and Michael are potential witnesses and targeted. This series romance was well done for its length.
