Days of No Humanity
A journal. A crown. A hidden child. Ever since she was born, Mabel has hid what she was: a human in a world of monsters that have hunted her kind for centuries. Over a thousand years into Earth’s dark future, Mabel is the last living human girl, and she will do anything to protect her identity from those who wish her harm. But when she hears of an artifact that can lead her to where she comes from, she will stop at nothing for answers. With the help of her adopted, shape shifting brother, a Deaf immortal historian, and a vampire king she is inexplicably drawn to, Mabel will realize not just what she is but who she is, and how she fits into a world that hungers for her kind to be enslaved.

Awesome spin on Vampire Romance! Say Hello to my newest obsession!
This is the story of a young human girl named Mabel who was adopted by a caring shapeshifter's family after her biological parents had left her. A loyal Pekra-Lion family had raised her among them as if she was their own and hid her true identity from others. When you're a Pekra, you are graced with two forms; the natural human form and your own spiritual animal form and you'll be able to easy shift into either form at will without any special rituals.
Now, seventeen year old Mabel struggles with where she truly belongs, not a Pekra or any supernatural creature but the last standing human on the planet. Not until she overheard about a long lost journal that once belonged to a human which makes it the only link left to her past. Only to find that the journal lies within the borders of the most feared territory ever, the Castle of the Vampire King.
One of my favorite parts is that Mabel isn't invincible. In fact, she's always the weakest person in the room which is totally understandable given that she has no powers at all. So going against Shapeshifters, Vampires, Nightrunners, isn't something that she is expected to do. She does it because she wants to discover her past and know what happened of her kin which makes her super brave at least to me. Knowing that you shouldn't always possess some kind of super powers to take down your powerful enemies, is somehow refreshing. You can still achieve what you want if you have a courageous heart and a loyal friends who have your back.
Mabel's character is nice, calm, yet ambitious. She's not a complete badass but she's not a pushover either. And Kimwe, Wow! He was so intimidating and hot! I found myself smiling whenever he was around.
Ponteus is such a snowflake and I loved him from the early start. The mountain lion-shifter brother is super sweet, funny, over protective of his sister but also vulnerable. Because aside from having the ability to change his shape, he doesn't have any bizarre powers. Pekra Lions and other supernatural creatures that inhabit this dark world aren't immortal as we often know and they can be easily killed which was a nice twist in the immortality myth.
I loved the Slow-burn Vampire love interest between Kimwe and Mabel so much. Whenever they were around each other, there's a tension in the air and it's obvious that they're attracted to each other. And when he feeds on her, the chemistry is off the charts!!! I mean come on, who doesn't want to be fawned over a tall, dark, brooding and charming Vampire King who has some sharp fangs and a deadly pair of Winged Shadows?
The writing style was so easy to follow and it immediately pulled me off into the heart of the story with its momentum of action packed scenes. I promise there was not one dull moment ever, which made me squeeze this book in less than two days! And the unpredictability of this book? I was never sure what would happen next which kept me on edge the whole time!
Not only does the author evidently have a wildly creative mind to include many dark supernatural inhabitants in the world, she also incorporates diversity and disability into the story. Two of the side characters have disability (autism and physical disability) and I loved how Kimwe welcomed Ruby (she is an autistic side character) to stay in his City and forced his people to learn the sign language. I also appreciated how Mabel and her brother have learned to use the sign language ever since they were young to communicate silently while they were on their usual illegal hunts.
For a debut novel, author Hood pens a great Paranormal world filled with magic, intrigue, secrets, deception, and steam making this enemies to lovers Paranormal Romantasy worth a read! It's gripping and she totally nailed the flavor of dominance in a steady pace that will keep readers in suspense from start to finish.
Read this book if you like these tropes:
- YA Paranormal Romantasy
- Enemies to Lovers
- Vampire love interest
- Strong Family bonds
- Found Family trope
- Twists & Turns
- Diverse & Disability Rep
Huge thanks to the author for gifting me a copy of her debut! What an awesome Supernatural Ride!

Days of No Humanity by Isabella Hood is a dystopian standalone fantasy with magic, mythical creatures, it is also diverse and has exceptionally well written disabilities and mental health reps.
It is a story of a girl Mabel who lives in a world where no human exists anymore. It's a world where mythical creatures like Vampires (vampires with WINGS 👀 how incredible) and Shapeshifters, Dragons, Nightrunners, creatures of wood, water, and metal live. Mabel lives with a Shapeshifter family to hide her human identity. When she hears a rumor about a journal which belong to a human from the Old World, she sets off an adventurous journey with her Shapeshifter brother, the King of vampires and his deaf historian friend, to find that journal to know more about her human race, after finding the journal she also finds out that she is also the only human who can undo what caused human race to extinct.
I instantly fell in love with Mabel and her companions, they are unique, sassy, and adorable. Over the course of their adventure, Mabel and Kimwe's relationship slowly developed, their romance is totally swoon worthy. I loved how they grow together throughout the story. Also, their story was filled with cutest heart fluttering moments that I really enjoyed reading.
My favourite aspect of story was the friendship and bonding among the group, how much they come to care for each other, and their witty banter made me laugh throughout.
Mabel's story is a story of adventure, sacrifice, loss, courage, and finding one's true self.
The pace of the book is good and the story is nothing short of interesting. The plot is unpredictable and twisty which is why I was hooked from the very first page till the very end.
Days of No Humanity is such a fantastic read. It has incredible world building, I loved the mix of modern and medieval where Vampires have cars and museums and some creatures live in woods.
This book is everything I love in a fantasy; beautiful settings, amazing characters, adventure, action, and romance.

wow wow wow.
This book is a hidden gem for anyone looking for a fast-paced, standalone fantasy novel with some of the BEST tropes (Touch her you die, hot MMC saves the girl from the enemy, love confessions, Hurt/comfort, vampire/human) it also has american sign language and deaf, disabled rep which was so fun to read about. The cast is so diverse and there's no boring character in the story, though Ruby is my FAVORITE. the story moves very quick with a TON of scenery/character introductions, which i would've maybe not liked except i feel it works for this since the author leans into it being a short, quick story on purpose. The whole purpose of the story is following Mabel as she tries to find the journal, the answer to humanities disappearance, and who exactly she is as a human raised by monsters. it felt like adventure time X daughter of smoke & bone. Days of no humanity also beautifully explores trauma, grief, love, and loss. (That ending. OMG.) Kimwe is now a top book boyfriend of mine. i mean - he's basically a korean vampire Rhysand!! and mabel is both strong and soft, not snarky like most FMC's. It was different and it worked. This is the author's debut novel, and that gives me high hopes for her fairy duology she's releasing next because this was a powerful first release! I recommend this to everyone who wants a solid, short read :)

Mabel is a human living with her adoptive family who are Pekra, they resemble their spirit animal in true form, where her human identity is kept a secret. Her brother, Ponteus was a lion. She's the only surviving human on Boulder and has an opportunity to steal a journal to learn more about humanity and what the Old World was like. The vampire king, Kimwe is rumored to have it, but upon going to The City Below, home of the vampires, she reveals her secret. Kimwe reveals he doesn't have the journal but will help her and her brother find it, with the help of his historian, Ruby.
Mabel and her friends set out to find the journal with several obstacles getting in the way. Over the course of the adventure, Kimwe and Mable's relationship develops (and while I might have been hoping he changed her to a vampire, I'm glad that he loves her as she is as a human), (I was so excited to see this happen) as does her character. She finally is able to find true peace and happiness as a human, and she discovers there are other humans still alive as well, two being her Aunt and Uncle. Truly a really great story and I'm so happy I read it.

Days of No Humanity by Isabella Hood
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 ⭐️
This was a great, fast paced and exciting book! Just sad it was a stand alone… I definitely seen potential for this to be a trilogy that the three stages it went through could have more detail and elongated to be individual books!
The pace of this book has both pro’s and cons. Pro being I loved and devoured it! The con was there could have been some more detail or further plot into the story.
However; I LOVED that this author was able to have different characters represent different cultures, religions and disabilities like deafness or amputee. I think they were able to write these very well!
I need a book just about Mabel and Kimwe life after these events as I love them together!
This is a book not to miss if you want to read a short, fantasy genre stand alone!

This book is a wonderful mix of magic and dystopian. Something unique about this book is that it explains how the world came to be in detail. How the world ended and what happened immediately after including how the society came to be. Something else I found unique to this story is that magic existed before the dystopian world. The world building is incredible I only wish I got to see more of it.
The characters you love in an instant. They are unique and funny and have their own personality that even without saying who is speaking who know who is talking when and where. Even though it is plot driven the character carry the story. Everything about the retiring and details felt as if I was there in the world experiencing everything. A wonderfully written story of adventure love and ultimate sacrifice and standing in who you are even if you don’t know where you come from.

I bought a copy of this book from the author last year and finally got around to reading it. I throughly enjoyed it. A quest type with siblings and a few friends they met along the way with some romance sprinkled in.

Days of no humanity is about a girl named Mabel who lives in a world where humans do not exist anymore. A world full of monsters and mythical creatures. She is raised by a family of Pekra (kinda like shapeshifter/lions) who hide her human identity. When she hears of a human artifact that could tell her about her own kind she sets off on an incredible adventure to find it!
This story is beautifully written. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, there was a twist I did not expect. Each character had their own amazing personality that I couldn’t help but love. I’m eager to read future books by Isabella Hood.
