I Could Fall in Love tugged at every single one of my heartstrings. I thought this book was going to be about a cute marriage of convenience and it was anything but that. Mitchell is the son of a billionaire who doesn't take life too seriously. He likes spending money, he likes women, and he likes spending money on women. When his dad grows tired of his immature shenanigans, he threatens to cut Mitchell out of his will if he doesn’t settle down and find a wife. Enter Lavish Chamberlain. Baby girl has attitude for days and a ginormous chip on her shoulder. Lavish is fresh off her divorce and looking to clear her mind on an impromptu getaway. After running into each other in the club, Mitchell instantly becomes enamored with Lavish and offers her the deal of a lifetime. More than a few drinks later, Lavish goes to bed single and wakes up a married woman. What begins as a fake marriage turns into so much more. Mitchell is drawn to Lavish and feels the need to protect her so, it was easy for him to develop feelings for her. The same cannot be said for his wife. Lavish is working with five years of emotional trauma so, her mistrust in people (her husband included) is at an all time high. She had to deal with a lot of mental, emotional, and physical abuse from her previous marriage. That damn Keith really did a number on Lavish’ self-esteem so, she was constantly questioning Mitchell’s feelings for her. The emotional back and forth between these two took me through it. I was too happy when they finally got their shyt together. I really wish the subject of therapy had come up. If there were ever a character that needed to sit on someone’s couch and discuss some shyt, it was Lavish. She slapped Mitchell three different times when he grabbed her arm. Clearly, that was a trigger for her so, I’m not understanding how therapy was never mentioned. She definitely could’ve benefited from it. I Could Fall in Love was a beautiful love story. It took me through so many emotions. I laughed and I definitely cried. This was my first book by Kimberly Brown and it did not disappointment. I look forward to reading more from her.
This was so beautiful and so painful and I am an absolute wreck.
I knew, I FRIGGING KNEW, when it was mentioned Mitchell's dad was diagnosed with liver cancer that I was going to end up crying.
I lost my dad to liver cancer too, and this book had me crying so hard I couldn't see straight, so I had to pause for a bit to cry it out and then I continued reading through the tears.
When I started it I wasn't expecting it would be so emotional, but I'm glad that it was. The love story was sweet too. I mostly read marriage of convenience stories in historical romance books, so it was nice to change it up and read one in a contemporary setting for once.
GO READ THIS RIGHT NOW IF YOU WANT YOUR HEART TO GET STOMPED ON.
I absolutely love this story about Mitchell and Lavish….an arranged marriage definitely makes for an interesting story….but, you could see almost immediately the attraction between the two. I loved Mitchell’s loving & caring family. I was a little saddened by a story event…but, this was a really good story. I would love to see Lavish, Mitchell and their family in some future stories.
This book was so refreshing. It was a different type of love story, and I ate it up lol. A real page turner. I read it in a day. I loved Mitchell and Lavish love story. I loved how Mitchell’s family took in Lavish and welcomed her. Boy this book had me an emotional wreck when it came down to Xavier, Mitchell’s father towards the end.
I could fall in Love is an emotional read. Fake relationship and marriage of convenience together had me all excited. Mitchell and Lavish meet in New Orleans while Lavish is celebrating her divorce from a controlling Ex. Mitchell is drawn to her spirt and her looks and comes up with the perfect idea to get what he feels he deserves from his dying father. This story is just OK for me. It had all the components to be a great story for me but for me, it totally missed the mark. However, there are things about the book that I did like. Love the relationship that she developed with Mitchell’s sister Kira. I loved how loving and open his family is. Seeing Mitchell speak life into her warmed my heart. He really is a sweet and sensitive man. Major points for that. Loved how the family got together to fulfill the last wish of a dying man. That had to be hard. With that being said, it was hard for me to even rock with the miscommunication between the couple. Like could y’all just talk please? Sheesh. Lavish is extra. Don’t get me wrong, I feel her pain. I understand her struggle with opening up her heart to man again after what she experienced. It’s hard to move forward from mental and emotional abuse but I felt that sometimes she used it as a crutch to deter her from moving forward. Yes her and Mitchell started this relationship with false pretenses but this man showed her as side that was nothing like her ex and she didn’t even seem to want to move forward and live the life that wasn’t awarded to her when she was married. She lashed out and displayed an distasteful attitude. Like for what? She annoyed me. Like you complained that the man gave you an allowance and monitored the funds. Here comes Mitch dropping money off in your account and you tripping for what? This is a total 180 from what you experienced with your ex, bish BALL OUT, get a therapist and live your best life. Why even wallow in that shit and this man gave you unlimited funds to do you? Did I mention that she was annoying? I didn’t get to see the relationship develop to even believe that they fell for each other. Also, I felt the storyline with the ex was incomplete. The way that he behaved at the restaurant, what came of that? i wanted some type of closure for Lavish because sis was struck babyyy. Overall, this book had potential but it’s pains me to say that Lavish didn’t make this book an easy read. I liked this authors style so I will be reading for of her work

Kimberly Brown is a new to me writer and I was not disappointed! “I Could Fall in Love” was everything! From start to finish I was hooked! Lavish was young, beautiful, but carried a lot of emotional baggage from her very recent divorce and rough childhood, while Mitchell was a young wealthy bachelor living his best life! A drunken night in New Orleans leads these two to waking up married. I would say this marriage was anything but a mistake! It was kismet! Mitchell was everything that Lavish needed to heal and Lavish entered Mitchell’s life at a time where he needed her most. This was a fairly short read, but you get a FULL story! I cried, laughed, and thoroughly enjoyed this story! My heart was so full and overwhelmed with the love shared throughout this story! This is a must read!
4.5 ⭐️ nah because she ate this up. I was ready to two piece mitchell but he redeemed himself fast as hell. as he should. this was really cute 🥺 I love a good found family/ arranged marriage trope. it does it for me everytime.
It took everything in me to actually finish this book. I wanted to give up so many times. There’s not a single part of this story that was enjoyable to read. If I ever get to the point where I want to give up, I’m going to remember how hard I fought to complete this book, and channel that energy.
What a beautiful story! Lavish, although she had a tough upbringing, was strong, resilient and resourceful. All she ever wanted was a family of her own, and she was losing hope of that by the minute, until she met Mitchell! Mitchell, the ultimate playboy, finds himself drawn to Lavish for reasons unknown, and feels the need to protect her. With a proposal that she can't refuse, Lavish agrees to go along with the ruse with Mitchell, as she feels she has no other choice. But, she quickly realizes that she wants and deserves more! Yes, the money is good, but she cares more about love, being happy and building a family! She and Mitchell have some knock out drag out arguments, as they both are afraid to admit to the feelings that they have for one another. I love how the Keonig family embraces Lavish and gives her the love that she has yearned for all her life! Ahhh Mr. Keonig! That was tough! 😢 But, the gift that he gave Lavish was priceless! She was able to find and feel the love and a connection, from the people that she was robbed of knowing in her childhood. Seeing Mitchell and Lavish find love in all of this was beautiful! Great read! 👍👍👍
Mitchell and Lavish were so cute! These two meet at a club in New Orleans. Mitchell comes from a wealthy family. His dad is dying and has stressed the importance of him finding love. Lavish is out on the town by herself celebrating her divorce from her abusive ex-husband. Mitchell saves Lavish from some handsy creep. They drunkenly spill their life secrets to each other. Mitchell proposes that Lavish marry him, and he will give her money to start her life over (her ex left her broke). They get married, and wake up in the morning, with Lavish immediately second guessing the marriage. However, Mitchell has already wired millions into her account and she has nothing to lose, so fake marriage it is!
I loved Mitchell's patience with Lavish. She had been deeply hurt by her last relationship, and she would take it out on Mitchell sometimes. However, goodie for Mitchell because his feelings for Lavish have caused him to slow down with the party life and finally see that there is more to life than money, clubs, and women. Mitchell's family was amazing and they took Lavish in as one of their own from the moment they met her.
The plot concerning Lavish's birth family was sooo sweet! Overall, this story left me feeling satisfied at the end. I'm glad I gave the author another try!
TROPES: marriage of convenience; black romance; BIPOC/OWN voices (author is black); novella-ish; found family
TRIGGER WARNINGS: heroine previously in an abusive marriage (she details some of the events on page); hero has a sexual moment with another woman on-page
I really enjoyed this story. Although Lavish and Mitchell's marriage was one of convenience there were so many layers of their lives that were uncovered. Those layers included physical and emotional abuse as well as infidelity. Lavish had been through so much that it was her time to get the family and happiness she deserved. Mitchell gave off playboy vibes but Lavish was the perfect woman to show him its not always about giving material things to shiw you care. On the other hand, Mitchell was perfect for Lavish because he showed her just how a man is supposed to treat his woman. Their love journey had its ups and downs but with the love from the Keonig family these two were bound to pull through. The most beautiful moment in the story was Lavish finding her parents and building a relationship with them. This book is about never giving up on love because it will happen when you least expect it in an unconventional way.
This story was a lot heavier than I thought. A Lot more emotional than I anticipated. It started very entertaining, funny if you will, then towards the end it got super heavy. Lavish had it hella rough growing up. Her ex-husband was a jerk from hell. And guess what his name was?? Keith. That's right. It's Keith. It's always a dick head named Keith. He used and abused Lavish, leaving her broken. But her heart was so beautiful though. She tends to react with violence at times. She's laid her hands on Mitchell a couple times. And I must say, it left a sour taste in my mouth. Mitchell married Lavish for convenience thinking it was just that. But I knew. You knew. We all knew. I really did love watching them fall for each other. I wanted more from Keith. I would’ve love to see him get his behind handled, especially by Mitchell. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, so definitely I recommend 👍🏾
I was going through withdrawals when I couldn't read this because I was at church today.
Now Kimberly, what kind of crack did you drizzle in this book? Now I'm gonna want to read all your books? 😡😡😡. One thing about me, I will gobble up the marriage of convenience trope done right. every. single. time. Consistently.
Also Mitchell is in my top 10 book husband's, he's up there with all the mafia men so that's saying a whole lot.
This author does it again and came with this banger‼️
This beautiful and emotional book hit home because Lavish is me and I’m Lavish. It was fate for Lavish and Mitchell to meet because they were destined for each other. I ugly cried reading this book and the love from Mitchell’s family towards Lavish was so genuine and refreshing. I love a good romance with minimal drama so it doesn’t overshadow the romance in the book. This author is slowly making her way to one of my faves. I highly recommend this book and author!!!
I went in looking for something fun to read in between something else but these two Characters Mitch & Lavish decided to take up space in my heart.
Lavish having just left a 5 year long abusive marriage with nothing, she books a trip to New Orleans to celebrate her freedom where she meets Mitchell. The ultimate playboy and youngest in his family oh and he’s loaded. He’s lived majority of his adulthood spending money as he sees fit despite how his father has raised he and his siblings humbly.
His father has been diagnosed with cancer and not much time left to live. He’s since written Mitch out of his inheritance unless he gets his shit together, settles down and gets married he won’t see a dime of his money. Obviously Mitch proposes a marriage to Lavish to try and get his inheritance. He pays her to be his wife and she gets financial freedom, easy peasy right? Wrong
From the night they met these two had an instant connection. Tried to fight it they did, with lots of struggles to work through. Lavish has been beaten down and has never know what’s it’s like to be loved, she grew up in the system. It was hard watching them learn each other and make mistakes with bad communication and triggering one another but the makeup sex made up for that hehe. The smut was so nasty, Kimberly never disappoints me tbh so I had no doubts about it. They were so good together once they worked past all of their issues. His family accepted her into the fold with no qualms and poured so much love into her. This had me in my whole ass feelings man. I did in fact cry after watching them fall in love for his dad to be able to witness that before passing on.
Idk what it is with reading about black women getting loved on that has me in a rabbit hole rn but I’m never leaving.
This was such a wonderful story besides the part with Xavier, it was superb. I must say that Lavish was getting on my nerves at one point and when Mitchell had enough and left at night, I wanted to high five him so bad but sadly I couldn’t be in the book 😂😂… Anyways I loved that this had happened and so Lavish realized that she was and could be replaced at any moment time if she keep this up. Mitchell was a little bit too sweet, too soft, too good for her. He was the MAN! MS. Brown never fails…
This was my first book from Kimberly brown but it won’t be my last. Mitchell in all his selfishness was the sweetest and gentle man ever. Lavish has been through way to much in her short life. Glad that Lavish was able to see past the trauma to allow love come to her. Love the way Mitchel was with his family.
Keith can get these hands on sight I did not like him.
Lavish needed therapy. I’m glad the book was short and didn’t drag on because idk if would have kept reading. I can say I love how patient Mitchell was and considerate towards Lavish behavior but with a past like Lavish I understood why she acted the way she did it just seemed repetitive like a tug and pull between the two and like I say she just needed therapy.
Kimberly Brown, my lord what a good read. I don't know how you wrote this without balling your eyes out. Can I tell you how much I loved Mitchell and Lavish. What they thought was just a way to pacify a person wishes ended up with something they both needed and didn't even know it. I felt so bad for Lavish never being in her shoes I can only imagine what she felt about herself and how people perceived her. Mitchell was such a great guy. His words of affirmations and just how he cared for Lavish should have been enough but Lavish was so afraid to be open because she never had what Mitchell could offer her. This love story was just so beautiful in so many ways. Thank you for this tear jerker🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
This book took me through it! I had all the feels reading this. Lavish and Mitchell's story started on what I thought was a familiar path quickly proved me wrong. Lavish quickly showed me that even though she was onboard with Mitchell's plan, she wanted something more important than money. Mitchell's family was amazing...I don't want to say too much. Kimberly did a great job, and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.❤
My Heart ❤️ It took everything in my to hold back the tears. This was such a beautifully written story and I fell completely in love with these characters. Like Mr. Xavier said the joke was truly on Mitchell. He had no idea the blessings that he set himself up for by marrying a complete stranger. The love and connection between them was so exhilarating. Even when Lavish was pushing away. I loved that he made her feel beautiful because everyone deserves to feel like they are the most Beautiful creation in the world. It made me smile. Even in their moments of frustration I smiled because I could see their chemistry building. I feel like a really witness true love unfold. It’s was everything I didn’t know I needed.
It was a great story of two people who fell in love after an arranged marriage. Lavish was a child of the foster care system who married an abusive man. After she divorced him, she was in New Orleans to celebrate. That’s where she meets Mitchell.
Mitchell who is a rich playboy just enjoying life. But his father told him that if he didn’t marry he wouldn’t receive his inheritance. After spending a few hours with Lavish, he decides marrying her is the solution to his problem.
Of course marrying wasn’t as simple as Mitchell thought. But they make it through and get a HEA. This is a great short novel from one of my new favorite authors. Read this from Kindle Unlimited.
This story was really good. I love a good marriage of convenience. Lavish and Mitchell were an unlikely pair, but somehow it worked. I’m so glad Lavish let all the hurt and pain she had and just took a chance on Mitchell. This story was so so good.
I so enjoyed reading Lavish and Mitchell’s story. I loved every aspect of it. I hated Lavish had to go through the turmoil from her ex but she met the wonderful Mitchell through it all and gained so much. And the most touching of all finding her family. Loved it.
Lavish made me want to be a character just to slap the taste out of her mouth she got on my last nerve. The author tapped into all of my emotions my heart broke for the entire family when Xavier passed away. Author job well done
