Options Are Power was given to me as a gift. Honestly, as a part-time employee and mostly stay at home mom, I wasn’t sure how much I was going to get from a business book geared toward professional high performers. But Options Are Power is really a self-help book about living intentionally, identifying your core values and then offering practical career advice so that you can achieve the freedom to live without compromising priorities. I loved Peters’ voice – funny, honest and always engaging, Options Are Power was a quick read that stayed with me long after I finished it.

At my college reunion, I was lucky enough to attend a lecture by author Donna Peters, on "Designing Your Next Best Move", and I absolutely loved it. I immediately ordered her book, and it did not disappoint! This book walks you through the personas of people who are looking to make a move (Exploration Erika, Crossroads KT, and Hamster Wheel Hank), and encourages you to determine your core values, establish / update your personal brand, adapt your networking style and how you build relationships, and translate your skills to new applications. I appreciated the mix of personal anecdotes with practical exercises, and got a lot out of both. I also thoroughly appreciated that it was only 155 pages - so many times I feel like business books repeat the same thing over and over to try to hit a certain page count, but this was concise and to the point. My only quibble was that the last chapter was business advice that was much more generic rather than connected to the rest of the book (perhaps trying to pad that word count after all?) but I will easily overlook that with how fabulous the rest of the book was. I have already been highly recommending this to everyone I know, and will likely buy it as a gift for some of my coachees as well - go get this if you are considering any kind of change!

This is a great read for goal orientated business minded people. It really gives insight on how to get to the next level while making the right decisions for you personally. Opening yourself up and giving yourself options along the way leaves you room for trial and error without you feeling like you are on a set path you can’t get off of. That’s how so many people get stuck in their jobs, they feel like there isn’t another option.
Great read, so well put together and Donna’s voice shines through!

Why get another leadership book? Because sometimes you find someone with a different outlook that really helps put things into perspective.
The book is easy to digest full of examples and stories. We often try to make leadership seem so complicated. We often think being high-powered in the business world means losing our personal life. That is what this really highlights how to change your outlook to give yourself ways to simplify.
Did I mention it was easy to read?
