A quick sexy fun read...the chemistry between Jordan and Dominique is off the charts from start to finish.

Insta-lust turned insta-love, which led to insta-marriage. I liked Dominque and Jordan, they actually seemed like a good match for each other. Her ex was a douche canoe that I am shocked she even entertained. I liked Ruth and Michelle and assumed the rest of the family was just as nosey and meddling as those two.

I rarely write reviews, especially long ones. And I’m wary if being so honest in them (bad experience in the past … and I actually liked the book well enough!). But this short book has so many issues.
If I was reading this as an ebook I would have searched to see how many times the phrase “made love” was used. The overuse of the phrase was annoying, but not really that much of an issue.
I’m not sure when this is supposed to be set. MMC makes a couple very outdated comments (refers to her “birthing hips” and doesn’t sleep around much because he doesn’t want to worry about getting AIDS. Why not just say STD/STI? Are the other types okay?). There was a part where he has her dance to the song Flashdance as a warm up for a workout. Just seemed like the book was set in the late 80s-early 90s.
MMC is super rapey. He considered trying to get the FMC pregnant without her knowing. After they “made love” for the who knows how many times (seriously?) that day they fell asleep. He woke before her, still inside. After getting up to take care of the condominium (and deciding trying to get her pregnant wasn’t a good idea), he puts on a condom, gets back in bed, and proceeds to “make love” while she is asleep. Let me repeat that - She was deep asleep and he penetrated her.
He’s very possessive and super alpha male, basically demanding that she explains why she left the way she did, pushing his way into her home to confront her when she wouldn’t answer the phone. Was gaslighting her, too.
He commented that she was hers. That he left his mark all over her body.
Never knew how many times they “made love” throughout the day (not even 18 hours of time). Might have been 6 or 7 - that was the couple’s estimate. (Ouch!) He thought to himself, as he was basically stalking her to demand the explanation she most definitely owed him (um, no), that at one point he felt like they were superglued together. (Double Ouch!!)
Overall, this read like something written by a teen/young adult who didn’t have much, if any, experience in sex or adult relationships. If I didn’t need to listen to the production for an audiobook review I would have DNF it just for the meh writing, even before it got super problematic.

Bare Essentials Breaks Rules
It had been a while since I read a Brenda Jackson romance novel. When I read that she had a Voluptuous Woman series, I had to purchase the first book and check it out!
Dominique Kincaid was a typical Brenda Jackson heroine--beautiful, intelligent and involved in a great career. But she had one major difference--she wasn't model thin! And I loved her for that!
I also loved Jordan Prescott, and the way he fell hard for Dominique's voluptuous curves! Loved their first lovemaking session on exercise equipment, loved the way their " recreational sex " quickly took on a new meaning, loved the conflict and its conclusion, loved the book!! About to purchase Book 2 for the weekend! Great job Brenda Jackson! We "Triple F's" ( Full-figured, Fabulous and Freaky!) salute you!!!

Mrs. Brenda Jackson does not disappoint with this romance novel. Dominique and Jordan immediately hit the ground running in this easy to read romance. Judge Dominique Kinkaid is a confident, intelligent, and beautiful plus size woman. She wants peace and maybe casual sex after exiting a tumultuous relationship with her ex fiancé who cheated on her. Little does she know, she’s in for a rude awakening.
Jordan is an attorney who hasn’t been in a relationship for years due to divorce. He’s look for a causal relationship and sets his eyes on Jordan.
Each soon learns that the heart and the mind don’t always agree. Jordan quickly finds out he’ll have to earn Dominique’s trust as she’s been terribly burned previously.

Jordan and Dominique have begun their happily ever after!
Who knew lasting love matches could be made on the jogging trail? Jordan and Dominique both had past hurts from the exes in their lives so it stood to reason they wee not looking to quickly enter into another long term relationship. What captured my heart about these two was their refusal to let go of the love that had developed between them despite the misunderstanding that could have derailed all the life they ended up having together! Dominique's sister Michelle is a mess and I can hardly wait to see who takes who between her and Royce! I truly enjoyed Jordan and Dominique's story!

Bare Essentials (Voluptuous Woman Series Book 1)
I love Brenda Jackson's novels, but this book didn't do it for me! Judge Kincaid wasn't treated with the 😍same suspense love story as the women in the Westmoreland or Madaris Series! There was no courtship or dating trying to get to know one another. They went straight to sex! This book should me less respect for a voluptuous woman than the Petit ones in her other books 😥

Dominique and Jordan are my new favorite couple.
This is a great, quick spicy read for vacation.
What I admire most was Jordan made his intentions clear from the beginning but moved on Dominique's time. I also love how Jordan made it clear he loved all of her voluptuous curves.
While this may be a fiction novel, one thing that stood out to me is if one can't separate their role at work from their role as a spouse, it could be the downfall of any marriage.
This is a great, quick spicy read for vacation.

Beautiful love story.
Jordan and Dominique story was tantalizing. It was well developed. I especially enjoyed the sisterly relationship between Michelle and Dominique. Ruth was a busy body at the office. Both Jordan and Dominique had previous relationships; however, Kenneth was the worse. This was sensual and an enjoyable read. Can't wait to read Michelle story.

I find it hard to believe this book was published in 2022. I actually laughed out loud when I read the phrase "all that and a bag of chips." Hadn't heard that since I was a kid (and I'm in my mid thirties lol). The spice pleasantly surprised me and I once again found myself laughing out loud at the spicy scene descriptions. Overall I really enjoyed it.

I love this characters especially Jordan. During a conflict he doesn’t run and hide but confronts it head on. If he didn’t when the main conflict comes about, there would be no Dominique and Jordan Prescott.
