Forged in Fire #3

Playing with Fire

Rate this book
Another sizzling, stand-alone firefighter romance from New York Times bestselling author Skye Jordan!

Tucker

I learned young that women don't stay. Luckily, no-strings hookups work perfectly for me, and as a firefighter, I have no problem finding women. But losing a victim to the river in a flash flood, left me not only shaken, but changed. Playing fast and loose doesn't work for me anymore, but when Lacey walks into the bar and buddy bets me I can't get her into bed without telling her I'm a firefighter, I stupidly take it. Only that lie by omission comes back to bite me in the ass because one sizzling night later, I want something I've never wanted before—more.

Lacey

I'm only back in the states for a friend’s wedding, which means avoiding my overbearing parents. I’m a photographer base overseas, but my parents see my career as worthless. And after almost losing everything to a domineering ex, I'm all about independence. Hooking up with the hot bartender seems like the perfect beginning to a ten-day visit, but one night with Tucker Medina has me weak-kneed and wickedly satisfied. Until I learn he not only lied about who he was, he made a bet on getting me into bed.

When I hear my parents put my twin brother on a 72 hr hold at a local psychiatric facility, Tucker comes to my rescue. And it doesn't take long to realize there's more between us than some good sex. A lot more. But it's hard to imagine this working when his life is here and mine is on the other side of the globe.

This is a romance/women's fiction, and this is the second book in the Forged in Fire series. I have read and reviewed the first book in this book series. I loved the first book in this series, but I do think that this book can be read as a standalone. I have read several firefighting book so far this year, but none of the other ones I read give me what I wanted. I have been wanting a firefighting book that has a good mixed of action for the firefighting and romance, and this book has all that and so much more. I love all the action and firefighting that is in this book, and I love the romance in this book. There is some really hot and steamy times in this book, and they are written very well. I love the characters in this book. The two main characters, Tucker and Lacey are just the best and makes a great couple. This book pull me in so fast, and I could not put it down. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher or author (Skye Jordan) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I absolutely love the way Skye Jordan writes Firefighter Romances. Her telling of the story as well as her descriptions of events is spot-on. Tucker and Lacey were such interesting characters that held your attention throughout the story. I was heart-broken for Tucker in the beginning of this story.

I understood his pain. But, he was outgoing, a joy to be around and women flocked to him. Yes, he used “firefighter” as a come-on but, not with Lacey. He knew there was something different about her from the beginning and didn’t want to just be another notch to her. But that comes back to bite him. He’ll do whatever it takes to get Lacey to forgive him and maybe give him another shot at something that is totally profound to him. A relationship.

Going opposite of what I felt for Tucker here. Lacey came off as privileged even though she tried not to. She wasn’t totally honest with Tucker either so how could she blame him for omitting something … he didn’t lie. But, that’s neither here nor there. Lacey was just as outgoing as Tucker, giving and kind. She had her reasons for staying away from everyone in her family except for her twin. No one understood him, especially her parents. But, Tucker did and she was totally grateful for that and what he did for him. It took some time but Lacey did come to realize that Tucker meant more to her than her family and why she left Hood River. How does she make this work with them working on two different continents?

My heart broke again for both of these characters. You could feel the love and respect that they had for each other and their professions and I just couldn’t understand how either of them could let go of the other. Then it all started happening. The smile came to my face and the tears to my eyes. They finally figured it out and I couldn’t have been happier.

I hope that Skye Jordan keeps writing amazing stories in the Forged In Fire world. I love how she delves into the characters, their backgrounds and their feelings. She has a way of bringing to life rescue and fire scenes. I appreciate the accuracy and how she integrates the story with the scenes. They never felt like they were just put in to remind us that this was also a story about a firefighter. The scenes flowed from one into the other, seamlessly. She also took a chance with this story with Caleb and his problems. It was integral to bring the story full circle, for Lacey to see the man that Tucker was.

The third book in Forged in Fire, Playing with Fire is full of action, emotion, and depth. Tucker and Lacey are troubled characters with much to resolve, the story surround them is engaging and in depth. I think this is a fabulous addition to this series and would recommend to other readers.

Tucker and Lacey sure brought a lot to their story. Both afraid of commitment (for valid reasons), both definitely burned in the past, one with a big dumb mouth and the other with a hard time trusting, and yet they just made it work. Sure, they didn’t want to admit it—to themselves or anyone else—but they couldn’t help what their hearts and heads both wanted. But could they find a way to build forever from what they both insisted was a fling? Or were they destined to only be the right person at the wrong time for each other?

No matter how much misery these two put themselves (and me) through with their denial, I couldn’t hate them. They both had such big hearts and were so much more than they gave themselves credit for. Yeah, Tucker made a few supremely stupid verbal mistakes, but he immediately did his best to make things right each time. And Lacey had a tough way finding her ability to trust and admit to the love she felt, but maybe she needed that painful time apart to really reflect on her wants and needs in life. And when their individual plans came together in the best way possible, I wanted to cheer.

I’m looking forward to the next tale among this group of friends because I’m sure it’ll be just as engaging as this one was. And I’m also certain I’ll enjoy catching up with the couples who already found their way to forever also.

Tucker is a firefighter who has dedicate his life to helping other who has recently endured a tragic loss which has left him reconsidering his life’s choices. He has always been content to keep his relationships with women on a casual level but after spending the night with Lacey he isn’t sure if one night was enough.

Lacey’s relationship with her parents is strained so she chooses to travel while pursuing her career in photography. Due to her romantic past she isn’t looking for love or a relationship but Tucker is a temptation she can’t resist. Although they didn’t get off to the best start will he prove to be the man she can count on when she needs someone the most?

Both Tucker and Lacey have trust issues which causes some turmoil, but they prove with the right person love can overcome any challenges that life throws at you.

We are back with the brave men and women of Station 21 and this time the story belongs to Tucker, whom we have met before and Lacey.
While the story is engaging, it’s more than the plot. The story is a reminder that experiences one has as a child or later as an adult, will affect the individual for the rest of their lives.
But it’s how one deals with those sometimes heartbreaking experiences, that will make or break the person.
Sometimes it takes being brave enough to take a leap of faith with someone else in order to heal and find their HEA.
This was another thought provoking and engaging story in this already well written series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book . The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my ARC. I honestly started this last year but lots focus on it. I decided to give it one more try. Yes I completed the book but it wasn’t as amazing as I thought it would be. Also, most importantly, this was the third book in a series. I had no idea so I was pretty lost with all the characters. The romance and chemistry was good. I liked the main characters. I didn’t believe the ending was realistic. Overall, it was a bit disappointing for me.

Skye Jordan’s writing is seamlessly flawless. A case of happenstance, an intense, captivating story of two successful but wounded characters. Both sexually experienced connecting meaningfully.

Tucker Medina is a player. A chick magnet. He’s smooth. Practiced.

Lacey Madison is a globe-trotting, self-made socialite, she’s strikingly similar, also a player, on a quest to find a pleasurable physical outlet for stress, there’s nothing like another willing warm body, Tucker fits the bill.

In many ways they’re very similar, both intense, strong, passionate, smart, fun…with an incredible spark.

They met a few days ago, but there’s no way to deny how right she feels to him. She’s passionate and dedicated to her clients and her craft. He’s passionate and dedicated to serving his community. Unfortunately, they exist in a parallel universe.

Three months before:::
The rivers jumped their banks and flooded streets, bridges, homes. The guy running SAR—Search and Rescue lead, Pierce—didn’t contact members in a timely fashion, didn’t block off known flood areas, didn’t go all hands on deck until it was too late, therefore Tucker headed to a stranded vehicle in the middle of the night unprepared.

There were five men on a bachelor’s weekend, sitting on the roof, clinging to the luggage rack like their lives depend on it—because if any of them fell into the turbulent water, their chances of survival were remote. The water was turbulent, unpredictable, and filled with debris—tree limbs, dirt, rocks. The undertow could submerge and grip you there.

One by one he gets them, except the most important one, Miles, the groom, days away from getting married. He went last because he couldn’t swim and was stalling. On the way to land, he panicked. Tucker would have gotten him to shore, he’s an incredible rescue swimmer, but the life vest ripped, and the water enveloped him. Tucker rushed to the next turn in the river, but Miles didn’t make the distance.
(His final words were that his fiancée was the woman he thought he’d never find) poignant words that haunted Tucker.
What a horrible way to die. He couldn’t swim. He was terrified.

The loss of Miles, has left Tucker visibly shaken, the fabric of his life filled with regret, guilt and turmoil. Equipment condition is one of the most key basic responsibilities of the SAR leader. Pierce didn’t prep with the city, he alerted help too late, and he had faulty equipment in place. It all led to the Mile’s death. Tucker tried to get Pierce brought up on criminal charges, but failed. So, Tucker ran Pierce out of SAR and took over. Not exactly like he’s got time to take on another group, but they say he’s never overcome losing the Miles. His wedding was mere days away. Tragic.

Three months later
Lacey is in Hood River, Oregon for her best friend Natalie’s wedding, she self-exiled ten years ago. Her schedule is crammed and she travelled without giving herself time to transition from jet lag. Now, she’s at The Cockloft, a bar and grill owned in part by Natalie’s soon-to-be husband, Cole, Tucker and Logan.

Lacey still might think of this as home, her summers spent with Natalie, certainly holds her most memorable thoughts of childhood. She’s here for a week with Natalie, celebrating her amazing love—Cole—and to return to where she belongs.

There’s something to be said for returning to a place where you might think you know what to expect, but she’s changed so much over the last ten years, she wouldn’t recognise her eighteen-year-old self.

Tucker’s first impression of Lacey
She’s got that thing that makes men stop and stare. She acts like it’s not the first time she’s come here. Like she belongs. Maybe even like she owns the place. At the very least, she certainly commands her own sphere and is comfortable in her own skin. For the first time in months, interest sparks somewhere other than between my legs. Now, this is a woman who could really help me escape.
“That’s her,” I tell Jake. “The one in red.”

Tucker lost an integral part of himself when he lost Miles. His cavalier spirit, his interest in the frivolous, his sense of immortality, his desire for shallow connections with women, and firefighting is always an easy way to impress. The fact that women find it sexy isn’t his fault.

Isabel (Tucker’s sister) the waitress at the bar, is part designer and Natalie’s maid of honour. They just lost their photographer for the yearly firefighter calendar shoot and Lacey agrees to do the calendar, gratis. Surprise, surprise, Tucker’s there. There goes her pledge of staying away from firefighters.

Lacey’s shooting the wedding photos for Nat and Cole…and she’s volunteered to shoot the firefighter calendar. Isabel’s been an incredible friend to Natalie, so much so, Natalie chose her as the maid of honour.
“She’s my friend, which makes her off-limits.”
“She can’t be your friend,” Tucker says. “She just got here. And you can’t claim all the hot women in town as friends.”
This is a sibling quarrel. I’d recognize it anywhere. And isn’t that just perfect? I slept with the brother of the best friend of my childhood.
“Okay, kids, no fighting in the sandbox.” Natalie slides one arm around mine, the other around Isabel’s, and steers us toward the station. “Let’s give them room to throw toys at each other.”

“Sorry about that,” I say, gesturing toward the station house and the confrontation with Carter. “He’s a two-year-old most of the time.”
“Huh. Sounds like you might be an a*shole most of the time.”
“So… You want to meet up tomorrow, when I’m off work? I’d love to hear more about it.”
She doesn’t say anything for a long moment. Then she hits me with “Was there no time in the eight hours we were together to mention you’re a firefighter? Say, maybe when I asked what you do when you're not tending bar?”
“Was it only eight?”
“Tucker, you f…..’ dog.” Jake comes striding into the bay. He’s on the other side of the engine, but I recognize his voice. “I’ve got your hundred bucks.”
Jesus Christ. I close my eyes and drop my head back.
“I want to hear all about that bombshell you landed. She better have been worth—” Jake turns the corner, and his feet stop. His eyes go wide, and his gaze jumps from me to Lacey. “Sh*t.”
“I was,” she tells Jake. “Worth it, I mean.”
“Did you actually bet on getting me into bed? I’m not sure if I should be amused, insulted, or just disappointed that a man with so much to be proud of would act like such a high schooler.”

“It wasn’t… It sounds worse…”can we talk about this over lunch tomorrow? Or dinner? I’m working at the bar, but I can get away.”
“It’s really too bad you didn’t tell me you were a firefighter, it would have eliminated all this mess, because I would never have slept with you.”
She passes him on the way back into the house, pausing so closely, he can smell that perfume of hers mixed with her own scent and feel the heat of her body. He’s light-headed when she meets his gaze directly.
“Don’t put restrictions on who has permission to get close to me or who I date, that’s my decision, not yours.”
Then she stops in front of Jake. “I’m Lacey.”
“Jake. Sorry about that.”
“Don’t be.” She plucks the money from his hand and smiles over her shoulder at me. “It appears I’ve earned this.”

“What does win over a woman like that?”
“Inner strength, quiet confidence. Clear direction. Passion. Accomplishment. She can have any man she wants. If you want to be that man, you need to be someone she can admire. You need to offer her something she can’t get anywhere else. You’ve got it in you, you’re great with victims, patients, kids. You’re always there for your coworkers. You stand up for your family. You just need to apply that compassion to the women you sleep with for a change. Your life would transform in front of your eyes.

“He’s been trying to get your number.”
“What, he never gets a girl’s number?”
“Since yesterday at the station, he’s hit up Cole, Isabel, Logan, and, of course, me. He’s tried to charm and beg it out of me, like, half a dozen times.”
“What did you tell him?”
“That if you wanted him to have your number, he’d have your number.”
“Exactly.”
“He’s a great guy. Loyal as hell”.
“You don’t have to sell him. He’s already a pretty nice package.”
“He really didn’t tell you he was a firefighter?”
“Why is that so hard to believe?”
“Because it’s his biggest, shiniest hook. He deploys it automatically, without thought.”
“I guarantee, that’s not his biggest, shiniest hook. And he had a bet on the line. Getting blindsided at the station didn’t feel good. A little too close to manipulation for my taste.”
“He’s not like your parents. Or Martin. I mean, he’s a really good guy. He’s just, you know, a guy.”
“Can we let it go? It’s stress inducing, and I really want to enjoy the six days I have left with you.”

“Are you free tonight? Can we get together? Go to dinner or something?”
“After you bet on having sex with me? I’ll pass.”
“You know, that whole bet thing really wasn’t… I mean, by the time Jake tossed it out, I was already mixing you another drink. It didn’t mean anything.”
“A hundred bucks isn’t nothing.”
“That was Jake.”
The sight of Jake entering the engine bay, brandishing money for his loss to Tucker, “then why didn’t you mention being a firefighter? When I asked how you liked working at the bar, you could have said, ‘I’m actually part owner’ or ‘I’m just moonlighting, I’m really a firefighter.’”
“We were doing so well without the whole sexy-firefighter thing. I didn’t want to rock the boat.”
“The whole sexy-firefighter thing?”
“You know what I mean. I liked being wanted for me, not because I’m a firefighter.”
“Yet, from what I’ve heard, it’s your favorite bait.”
“I’m really not going to be able to climb out of this hole, am I?”
“It’s over, let’s just agree to keep things simple. All the same friends, you know?”
(He clearly doesn’t want to let it go, and there is sincere regret on his face).

They both held back, she dodged John being her brother and he wasn’t honest about being a firefighter.
“You weren’t trying to hurt me by not telling me about John. I wasn’t trying to hurt you by not telling you I was a firefighter. Neither of us lied, we didn’t even know each other. Let’s just start fresh.”
“Well, in the spirit of being generous, mature, sweet, and truthful—I should tell you I know Caleb.”
“He volunteered for the department for a while.”
(He had to let him go. He’s in charge of the volunteers and he came to a scene high).
“I should have known he was lying to me when he kept saying everything was fine. I didn’t dig into the subject because if he’d told me, I would have had to come home, and home is the last place I want to be.”
“Why would you feel that kind of responsibility for him? Caleb’s a big boy, and you can’t read someone else’s mind.”
“Actually, I kind of can. We’ve always had that weird twin bond.”
“You’re twins?” I ask, surprised.
They’ve always been emotionally connected but drifted apart when she left home. They’re both creative. Caleb is an incredible writer. He’s written song lyrics, novels, nonfiction. He’s also empathic. His intuition is intense and eerily accurate. He can size up someone within seconds of meeting them.He has a hard time setting and keeping boundaries.”
“That explains why he’s so good with people.”
“He’s smart. Savant-scary smart. He had a rough period in high school when he was into drinking and drugs. It was how he coped with the pressures our parents put on us, but that was a long time ago.
“I guess now would be the time to tell you that I also know your father.”
“Good Lord. How?”
“He donated big money to our volunteer-training fund. And I happen to run—”
“The volunteers, right.”
“In your father’s defense, he donated that money to help keep Caleb safe. He’d heard about Evan’s death and wasn’t thrilled Caleb was a volunteer. Instead of fighting with Caleb about it, he donated the money for training.”
(It might have appeared that way, but he’s all about leverage and power, he’s manipulative and never doles out money unconditionally. It’s a control mechanism).

Lacey’s parents and her brother John equally are toxic vipers. She cares only for her twin brother, Caleb. They perceive her, her career and her twin brother as worthless, undervalued. Her parents placed her twin brother in a 72-hour psychiatric evaluation facility…because of their influence.

Caleb tried new therapy for depression, microdosing. There are a few drugs that supposedly have all kinds of mental health benefits when taken in tiny doses. He started on the lowest dose and increased from there. his depression evaporated. His focus sharpened. It was amazing. He significantly increased his dosage and ended up in jail. Their parents being major blighters, impressed on them to place him in a 72-hour psychiatric evaluation hold. It resulted in everyone trying to convince him that he’d overdosed and that he was suicidal.

“She can have any man she wants. If you want to be that man, you need to be someone she can admire. You need to offer her something she can’t get anywhere else.”
If he wasn’t enough for Beth, a single mom struggling to raise a boy on her own, how could he possibly be enough for an independent, successful woman with trust issues? What could he possibly offer her? Other than a good time in bed? Which, as Sorenson so deftly pointed out, isn’t the measure of a man worthy of a good woman (Lacey sees past his outward acceptance of their arrangement that there’s a lot more intensity to Tucker, than meets the eye). He’s tired of his no attachment lifestyle.

She’s known him for a week. She knew Martin for a year before he became someone unrecognisable. She would be stupid to give up all that she’s built overseas to stay. She doesn’t trust her own judgment when it comes to men and love, the risk is just too high, and she hasn’t known him long enough to ignore the risk.

Tucker treated her with reverence, so sweetly cared for after so many years of being told she’s a disappointment. He’s the definition of a hero, ready to be more.

Their parting at the airport was bittersweet, poignant.
He’s holding her in a bear hug when she whispers—“You get back out there and find a girl. Have babies. Save lives.”
“That’s the furthest thing from my mind.” I deliberately let her go and step back. “Kick a*s out there, love.”

You know that moment when the couple is at the airport saying their farewell goodbyes, parting with such sweet sorrow?
He’s watching her leave him.
With every step she takes toward disappearing, his panic escalates.
She stops before she heads down the corridor and looks at him, clearly sad, but smiles and blows him a kiss. Then turns away.
“Lacey.” My own voice surprises me, and pulls every gaze within earshot, but all I see is Lacey stop and turn around.
“I LOVE YOU.”
The surprise registers on her face a second before another traveller bumps into her. As her attention shifts, he turns and sets a deliberate pace for the parking lot. Devastated.

Everyone is on their own journey. Their lives are lessons and opportunities to create karma. Interacting with other people helps everyone live out their destiny. Lacey and Tucker found and fell intensely in love, in six days.

Oh my goodness, this book!

Tucker and Lacey's story was just wonderful. It really put me through the ringer--it was clear from the start that these two were meant to be together, but it was equally clear that their lives at that point were not compatible. They were both doing jobs they loved that they were amazingly good at, so how could they possibly get to an HEA?

Of course they did, it's a romance. But OMG it was pretty touch and go for a while there--and good grief did she make us wait until nearly the last minute...

If you've read the first two books in the series already, you'll love the glimpses Playing with Fire gives you into the HEAs of the first two couples--Lacey is Natalie's ( Flashpoint ) childhood BFF, and Tucker (besides being a member of Station 21, of course) is Isabel's brother. Two words: wedding vows. I can't even. If you haven't read the first two books, this one totally works as a standalone too--but don't blame me if seeing Natalie, Cole, Isabel, and Logan here inspires in you a burning desire (see what I did there?) to read their books too ;)

I can't wait to see whose book is next!

There is heart-pounding action from the get go, as Ms Jordan delivers the heat, emotion, angst and drama in this third instalment of the brilliant Forged in Fire series. That sees Tucker get his shot at true love, but boy is it a bumpy ride, as he falls for Natalie's childhood friend Lacey. Whose only staying around long enough to see Natalie wed and help her twin brother Caleb back on his feet. Yet, the connection between her and Tucker is undeniable, and the sparks ignite.

But family issues and a desire to never give up her hard earned career means she's determined not to stay. However, Tucker is unlike anyone she has ever met and proves that you don't have to sacrifice the things you love to get your happy ever after.

Would happily recommend.

This was an emotional book for me. I think Tucker may be the best man I have met in a book! Now he used to be a player getting what ever woman he wanted—for a night. Tucker is such a caring person, a fireman, he has groups he has started that specialize in an area to save certain people, and takes it personally when he loses someone. I loved how he was knocked off his feet when he met Lacey. I hated how Lacey’s parents had treated her and her brother. The good thing was it made her put all her effort into photography and has clients all over the world. But nothing beats your best friend when she is getting married and you are there to not only be in the wedding, but take the pictures. Even though Tucker and Lacey don’t want to have a relationship, I don’t think there was anyway to stop it. This is such a heart wrenching but beautiful love story. I strongly encourage you to read the book.I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

What’s not to like about this book! There are sexy firefighters and photoshoots with cute animals and sexy dances! There is action for the firefighters, romance and some steamy storylines.

Amongst all the hotness there is Tucker who has been a bit of a player until recently when he lost a man in a flood. Lacey seems to be the one who brings him back to life but she is also scarred. Her parents are manipulating and just horrid as was her ex. She feels differently with Tucker however her job as an international photographer doesn’t really work for a serious relationship. The 2 of them use the time available to them but that only makes saying goodbye even harder. It was a long and difficult road for the 2 of them to travel in order to find a way to move forward as one.

This is the third book in the series and it was great being back in this world and the way the previous characters were also a big part of the story.

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.

I thought this would be a 'traditional' romance book but this is so much more! Covering topics such as PTSD, drug abuse, abusive parents and mental health issues, it is a rich story with a number of happy endings! Love both Tucker and Lacey as well as the other characters.

I really enjoyed Tucker and Lacey’s story. It showed that there was more to Tucker than what everyone thought. Lacey thought that she had to work twice as hard to prove that she could make it without her overbearing parents help. Even though she’s proved her independence for quite a few years, it was hard for her to think about changing or cutting back. Between the both of them, they had a lot to learn about themselves and each other.
I always enjoy Ms Jordan’s books and the characters she brings to life.

Two strong personalities collide with overpowering results. Lacey and Tucker bring the heat, but they also break the heart. Playing with Fire sparks emotions with a complexity that is ever evolving and a connection that cannot be denied. Jordan pushes the heart out of it's comfort zone with a firework of a story.

Third book in this series, but can be read as a stand alone. Tucker and Lacey both have their issues, but put them aside to burn up the sheets. They don't plan on anything permanent, but plans change when you fall in love.

Lacey and Tucker's story is a great addition to the Forged In Fire series. Both charaters have such depth to them and their connection really comes across well. I loved their journey, my heart was in my mouth half the time as it seemed their HEA just wasn't in the cards! But, as usual, the author delivered in all areas, which is why she continues to be an auto-buy for me.

ARC Review from NetGalley: 4/5⭐️

Oh Tucker… The book follows Tucker and Lacey as they struggle to overcome the obstacles their past has created when it comes to falling in love.

This was a quick and easy romance read, that had just the right amount of smut to it. The book explained enough of the backstory of the main characters that the reader understood the journey they were on, and the obstacles they were overcoming. Great character development, with the safe and comfortable storyline.

4 stars rather that 5 because while it was a good read that I would recommend to someone looking for a good and easy romance read, I wouldn’t pick it up again and it’s an easily forgettable read.

Playing with Fire (Forged in Fire)
By: Skye Jordon

💕📚⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📚💕

Deep from the start!

Can opposites attract from the very beginning? I’ve truly been enjoyed every book in this series. With that said I’ve always known I wanted more of Tucker. I mean look how he loves his best friends and his sister. He incredibly loyal. Then he meets Lacey am oh boy does she keep him on his toes.

The author writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.

Authors Blurb: Tucker

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

She wasn’t totally honest with Tucker either so how could she blame him for omitting something ... he didn’t lie.

This is such an intense love story of two very successful yet damaged people. They are perfect for each other but their lives are on opposite sides of the world. They come into each other's world for 2 weeks and their chemistry is off the charts, soul mates. No other author I know can make me look into myself and inspect my psyche like Skye Jordan. She makes me want to be a better person with each story she writes. There are parts that feel like therapy and others that make me believe in love. I loved every minute of it and didn't want it to end. I can't wait to devour her next story.

Lacey Madison is back in Hood River Oregon for her childhood best friend's wedding. She's an international professional photographer and she'll take Natalie and Cole's wedding photos. She has roots, family she left here at 18 be out from under her toxic parents' thumb. She had to find her own way in the world without her parents money or expectations. She also has a younger twin brother who ends up needing her help. She's recovering from a controlling fiancé who almost wrecked her career two years ago. Now she's a player, never spending more than a few hours with any man anymore. Her emotions are locked tight in a box. The first night in town she meets Tucker Medina while he's bartending at their bar.

Tucker Medina is a player, no one woman gets under his skin since Beth broke his heart taking her 6 year old son away from Tucker. Tucker is the product of a trailer trash mother and has learned women always leave. He is a fireman to his core, brave, strong, smart and loyal to his friends who are his brothers. He is the definition of hero but doesn't know it. He plays surface but he's deep, with deep hurts he keeps buried. When he meets Lacey they connect on a deep level that shakes both of them. Lacey runs by keeping him at arm's length and Tucker is just confused at wanting more. Given Cole and Natalie are in Tucker's brotherhood they run into each other daily almost. It forces them to consider and do soul searching as the weeks play out. I adored this story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book can absolutely be read as a standalone but I do recommend the previous books in the series just because they are good reads as well. In this one we get Tucker and Lacey's story. Tucker has a rescue go bad and is struggling because of it. It makes him question himself on all levels. And where once he was happy with his meaningless affairs, now he wonders what he has missed by only going into temporary fun. Lacey has a great career as a photographer but her parents and her past with them make her insecure. When she meets Tucker, she think its just for one night-but when she learns that he lied about who he is and that he made a bet about her, she questions her decisions all over again. But when she needs help with her brother, Tucker steps up and shows that there is more to him than what she thought. Now they both have to decide if what they could have is worth the work they would need to put in in order to have it.

I really liked this story. Tucker and Lacey have this instant chemistry that you can't help but love. But they also have real people issues and that made them much more relatable in my opinion. I know exactly how Lacey feels with having issues with her parents, and honestly-I loved that about her!! Not that she had to deal with it but that it was something that I have dealt with my whole life, and it just made me feel like someone else gets it! I loved that this story showed that there is more to Tucker than just the man who lives for one-night stands. He has his own issues and is finally forced to deal with them if he wants Lacey. The way this story played out was done in a way that sucked me in and kept me reading, all while not wanting it to end.

I always find the kind of romances where one of the members of the couple needs to give up something or change their lives completely in order to be together. In the case of Playing With Fire, Lacey has built up a successful career as a photographer, something that doesn't take her back home very often and sees her spending her days jetting off around the world. Tucker on the other hand, is very settled in the town where he is a firefighter and member of the search and rescue team, The only way that they can seriously be together is if one of them is willing to give up their current life and join the other.
This book also features something else which I'm quite fond of. A female lead who is experienced sexually and isn't scared to go after what she wants physically. There are far too many virgin romances out there for my liking, especially where the hero is a bit of a player. Tucker in this book has been around, a lot, but so has Lacey. I think that it's this that makes them a little more believable as a serious couple.
Although things aren't completely straightforward for this relationship and despite the fact that they barely know each other for more than a few days, I did really enjoy the chemistry that builds between them and the way that their romance unfolds. I really liked Lacey and Tucker as a couple, they worked well together and I was pleased with the way everything turned out.
This is my third visit to this group of firefighting friends, I hope that it won't be the last.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.

Tucker’s true passion is protecting people. He is an amazing firefighter and rescue volunteer but when one rescue fails, it shakes his foundation. It pushes him to work harder and be more focused on work while he struggles with what his personal life should be. It was crazy to me that he didn’t see himself as relationship material with all of his caring instincts and easy ability with kids. Learning about the struggles he had with finding a permanent relationship definitely left a mark on him. Lacey is looking for validation and acceptance in her life, something her parents have never provided. She has built an incredible career as a photographer as she travels the globe and tackles every assignment thrown her way. Returning back to her home state is full of trepidation but she won’t miss her best friend’s wedding. Meeting Tucker provides a mind-blowing experience with the incredible chemistry they share. She finds an ally in Tucker as her brother hits a rough time which causes her to doubt her beliefs about men. Her track record with relationships isn’t much better than Tucker’s. These two are amazing people in their own right but together, they are off the charts. The challenge, will they be able to put their fears and doubts aside and take a chance of love together. I got pulled into their journey and wasn’t sure if they could find a way with careers on opposites sides of the world but I kept hoping for love to win. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Is it possible for two people who have never been interested in long term relationships to change? Tucker, a firefighter, has always been the carefree “one night stand” kind of guy until a water rescue goes bad. Now he is haunted by that event to the point that he hasn’t been interested in women since that night.
Lacey is an independent photographer who works overseas on purpose. The further away she is from her controlling rich parents the better. The only people she truly misses are her twin brother Caleb and her good friend Natalie. Now back in town for Natalie’s wedding to a fellow firefighter Lacey isn’t adverse to a fling with a good looking guy.
Lacey and Tucker come together on their own with Lacey not having a clue Tucker is a firefighter. Boy, do the sparks fly when they meet and spend time together. The problem is that neither have been interested in long term relationships. They are wounded souls that protect their hearts by never becoming seriously involved with another person. As the time ticks away on Lacey’s two week stay in town Tucker and Lacey need to overcome a series of unfortunate events: A bet gone bad and a twin brother struggling to find his path in life and deal with his health issues. The two of them must decide if they are up to a serious relationship, are they interested in a long distance relationship, can they overcome their personal struggles from the past.
This book draws you in from the first page and keeps you engrossed until the end. Another wonderful addition to the Forged in Fire series. Love this book!

It’s great to be back reading the Forged in Fire series by Skye Jordan. I love the guys at the center of this series, and Tucker is by far my favorite. I’m a sucker for a male protagonist who has a multi-faceted personality. Skye had me hooked as she revealed little by little all the sides of Tucker. Initially you would think he is nothing more than a player, yet he is funny, smart, cocky, and so sexy, but he is also loyal, caring and giving.
Lacey has come home for her best friend’s wedding. Home does not hold fond memories for her. Despite her upbringing or maybe because of it, she has forged a life as photographer, travelling the globe for her job. She thought she had everything she wanted, she didn’t have to answer to anyone about her choices, but meeting Tucker has her rethinking what happiness means to her.
Lacey and Tucker have white-hot chemistry, they really heat up the pages. Past experiences have them initially very wary; they would take 2 steps forward and something would happen and then they would take 5 steps. At times I wanted to shake Lacey, but she eventually came to her senses.
This book was entertaining, had me engaged from beginning to end. Tucker is my newest book boyfriend. Also, there is a slew of very yummy firefighters, who will hopefully get their own books. This book is a must for any TBR. Advanced copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Skye Jordan wastes no time dumping you into some heart pounding action in the first chapter of Playing With Fire. Gripping excitement and peril will have you holding your breath until the outcome. First and foremost this is a love story between two people who could not be more opposite. The only real thing they have in common is that they're both long time players.

Lacey Madison is a woman who knows what she wants and doesn't hesitate to go after it. She's finally attaining the recognition of her work that she so richly deserves. Being back home in Oregon for her best friend's wedding is certainly a far cry from her globe trotting lifestyle. Hooking up with one hunky man on her first night in town is a definite plus. Finding out later who he is really is a minus. Being a firefighter is not just what Tucker Medina does but it's the very essence of who he is. He's dedicated, fiercely loyal and courageous beyond measure. A close encounter of the very best kind with Lacey only puts a cap on the notion that he's tired of living a no strings attached relationship lifestyle and is ready for what comes next. Their time together has a definite end date but that does not stop either one of them from developing feelings for one another. Letting go will be the hardest thing they"ve ever done.
