A good beginner's book that details the lifespan, breeding, migration, and habits of the majestic fish hawk, as well as some natural history, particularly an account of how DDT nearly wiped out the osprey - with its elimination leading to a successful comeback for the birds in the United States. The author makes an excellent case for better awareness of the bird's natural habitat and ways that citizens and scientists can improve upon it to the birds' benefit. Full of beautiful full-color illustrations of ospreys in action! Having already read David Gessner's magnificent Return of the Osprey: A Season of Flight and Wonder, I consider this to be a very good companion volume, full of useful information but not as personal a story as Gessner's. The book includes a comprehensive list for further reading at the back.
