Definitely one of the more interesting MOTU books from Golden. It features some lesser-seen characters like Buzz-Off, Jitsu, and Webstor, which is always a nice change of pace from the usual line-up. Plus, the ridiculous-looking "Dragon Walker" vehicle makes an appearance, and honestly, it’s as goofy here as it is in toy form.
The Rock Warriors themselves are presented as a pretty serious threat at first, nearly succeeding in a raid on King Randor's palace. But, true to form, He-Man and friends discover their big, glaring weakness, and the Warriors go down pretty quickly after that. It’s a fun little story, even if the ending wraps up a bit too conveniently. Excellent cover by the renowned illustrator Earl Norem, too.
Confession: I checked this out only because the cover art reminded me of the Frank Frazetta style covers off my Tarzan books, so it avoided the returns cart for another day.
The actual story is rather uninspired (no surprise) and takes plenty of breaking stops to use characters and vehicles that obviously were toys. So a uninspired toy ad unsubtly Masquerading as a picture book. Not surprised.
