A good cozy mystery, starts with a death in the first chapter. A great cozy mystery, makes sure there's something fishy about it. If it's quite literally fishy, even better.
Welcome back to Jericho Falls! Yes, we will continue exactly where we ended off last time in A History of Murder. Don't worry, I think you will be able to follow along even if you haven't read it. Chloe Martin has decided to stay with Grandma Lily and a few of the questions left unanswered in A History of Murder, will come to light. But not before another murder is committed in the small, historical town.
Once again, Chloe finds herself at the right place, at the right time - right next to the handsome Police Chief Garner when a murder is announced. Nope, I do not use the Agatha Christie title-word-play lightly here, this murder mystery is one that would have made Dame Christie proud.
Unfortunately, we don't have a clever little Belgium Detective with patent leather shoes, or a nosy old lady with knitting needles to solve the mystery of why Barbara Duvall was floating upside down like the dearly departed Goldie Prawn in the pool of the local Trailer Park. Luckily, we do have the she-who-would-not-listen-to-sound-advice amateur sleuth, Chloe, to solve the latest murder mystery and to catch a killer on the hook. A few of the red herrings that also nibbled on the bait, proofed to be useful as well and they provided some long overdue answers to questions that kept Chloe up at night. Oh and let's don't forget The Poison Pen Book Club, they also throw in a line or two in the latest fishing expedition. Never underestimate the ability to solve a crime from people who read mysteries on a weekly basis.
Of course Jed and Elliot are still residing at Jericho House and finding out more of Jed's heritage, did cause my Mommy to tear up a bit. Poor Elliot tried to rub the fact that Chloe behaves like a total idiot with Chief Garner on more than one occasion by getting his claws in and meows out as only a cat who enjoys human suffering can do.
The world of cozy mysteries, are more of a dog's world where everything turns out resolved and all warm and fuzzy, than the world of a cat where things remain hidden under couches and dragged out at night to come and play. When it comes to Jericho Falls, we are very glad to share the house with Jed and to know that Chloe can sleep tight at last.
Will this be the end of The Jericho Falls Mysteries? Gosh, we hope not! We would love to see Chloe solve more mysteries than only her future with the dashing chief. Even a ghost or two popping up in the historical little town will suit us perfectly fine.
Thank you Brook Peterson! Not for only providing us with a copy of your latest novel, but for entertaining us for a few well spend hours.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series but this installment had me frustrated and irritated. Chloe would be better off if she could tell the truth to people, especially herself. I couldn’t believe the sheriff forgave her for withholding evidence and running all over interrogating people, or that people even answered her questions. She has no official standing or professional insight. She’s a ex-barista who shut down maturing at age 16. She has become an “I HAVE TO KNOW character and it’s not something that appeals to me. She displays no faith in the sheriff to know how to do his job, no faith in anyone except her grandmother, and she is always deflecting telling people what she’s actually doing.

Intrigue with a side of wit – a delightful cozy mystery!
Heading back to Jericho Falls in this latest book from Brook Peterson is as easy as wrapping yourself in a cozy blanket. “A Collection of Secrets” returns the reader to the former-gold-mining-town-turned-tourist-destination with a cast of familiar characters - plus a few new ones.
Readers were left with some burning questions after the conclusion of Peterson’s first book, "A History of Murder." Fans were chomping at the bit: What happened to main character Chloe Martin’s best friend Christy all those years ago when the girl fell to her death? Who’s been keeping secrets that first cast the suspicion of guilt on innocent Chloe?
And speaking of secrets… What *is* that handsome police chief hiding from Chloe, and will it squash any meaningful relationship before it gets off the ground? You’ll have to read the book to find out. Speaking of the men in Chloe’s life… Although he no longer gets high marks from Chloe, this reader hopes the author will continue to keep ex-boyfriend Blake prominent in the series. He’s grown on me!
Like red herrings? Get out your fork and knife. Peterson is adept at making readers run this way and that as they attempt to solve the mystery before the main character. “A Collection of Secrets” had more than one fish.
Peterson’s wit shines through early on in this latest installment. For example, the “tragic” death and funeral for Goldie Prawn – yes, you guessed it, a goldfish – found me chuckling right along with Chloe. (For the record, had I been there during the service, I wouldn’t have made it through the funeral with a straight face.)
The dialogue Peterson crafted between the characters is crisp and believable. These are real conversations.
Peterson is a talented writer. She’s a master of positioning a phrase perfectly within her storyline, offering up creative imagery while getting the point across simply. One of my favorites from this book: “I felt so nervous I worried a butterfly might fly out if I opened my mouth.”
The author drops little "scene-setting" details here and there throughout her story to help readers feel like they know this world. For example, the line: “…even the bottom of the shower curtain that tended to turn orange...” helped me connect. Just these few words told me there must be iron in the water – again, I’m identifying with what Chloe is seeing because *I* know what that’s like, too.
This is the third book I’ve read by Brook Peterson, and I continue to marvel at the writing “voice” she has developed. Some authors claim to write in a certain style, but they don’t quite pull it off. This author writes top notch CURRENT cozy mysteries while not sacrificing the values and hallmarks defining the classics. Furthermore, Peterson could’ve easily written for some of the classic TV favs such as: Murder, She Wrote; Columbo; Monk; or Midsomer Murders.
If you are looking for a mystery with all the qualities of a classic, clean, cozy mystery, then “A Collection of Secrets” by Brook Peterson is for YOU!

Jericho Falls, Nevada 2022.
Second book in the series. I like the main character, the dog and cat, and the sweet meddling grandmother.

Building upon the first in the Jericho Falls Cozy mysteries, ‘History of Murder’, this story begins in the spring, many months later. Chloe, one of the main characters in the story, has moved to Jericho Falls, Nevada. Living in a newly refurbished studio apartment right next to her Grandma Lily’s historic Jericho House, she has finally settled into her new life within the community, amongst her grandma and close circle of friends.
While Grandma Lily and Chloe are wanting to put the recent past behind them, Chloe soon finds herself once again pulled into a new mystery. Attuned to gnawing discrepancies found at the scene of an accidental drowning of a woman, Chloe takes it upon herself to find more of the pieces to the puzzle. As she digs deeper, she begins to wonder if this mystery is far more intertwined with her own distant past and the many unanswered questions she still carries within herself. With many twists and turns, the intrigue increases until the final scenes.
The author does a fantastic job developing the narrative and real-life characters. Rather than being two-dimensional, Peterson uses a blend of light-hearted humor, intrigue, romance, and empathy to display ‘real’ people, who are nuanced, multifaceted, and often struggle with their own inner battles. More than a simple ‘whodunit’ story, the author skillfully weaves in deeper themes and messages about the human condition. In one passage, Chloe insightfully reflects, “We were the same. Wounded, but stoic. Hurting, but hiding it by coming to everyone else’s aid.” In another passage, Grandma Lily comforts Chloe, “…Secrets always take a toll, even if they’re kept for good reason.” Coupled with Peterson’s storytelling skills, ‘A Collection of Secrets’ is a great mystery that will keep readers engaged all along the way.
While this story is the second book in the series, the author does a great job of setting the stage by providing some of the details from the first book. Although this book can be read as a stand-alone book, I strongly encourage readers to read Book 1 first in order to get the entire back story (see my review of ‘History of Murder” at https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1...)
Disclosure: Thank you to the author for an advance copy of this book to review. The views presented here reflect my honest appraisal of the story.

This is a clean cozy mystery that can be enjoyed by any one, of any age. You’re gonna’ love your trip to Jericho Falls, Nevada!
A COLLECTION OF SECRETS is the second installment in the Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries series by Brook Peterson is well written with lots of twists and turns you expect in a good mystery. This a good, many layered mystery with a dash of romance thrown in. Not havng read the first book didn't impact my enjoyment of this book.
Jericho Falls is normally a quiet small town in Nevada, but the more you look, the more secrets you will find. When the owner of the local RV park is found dead in the pool, who should be on site, but Chloe Martin, disagreeing with the Police Chief about cause of death. The Chief in turn tells her to stay out of the investigation. It's not long before she is running her own private and secretive investigation to prove to Chief Lance Garner that this drowning was no accident, it was murder.
The more she investigates, the more secrets she uncovers. Now Chloe is beginning to think this murder may be connected to her friend's death fourteen years ago.
The banter between Chloe and her Grandma Lily and their shenanigans added a humorous interlude. I can't forget that solemn funeral for Goldie Prawn, so precious.
I guarantee the ending will be a surprise.
I received a free review copy of this book via Origin Stories and this is my voluntarily review.

A Collection of Secrets is a fantastic second chapter in Brook Peterson's Jericho Falls mystery series. I loved this one even more than the first.
Chloe Martin has been back in Jericho Falls, Nevada for a couple of months now and is feeling settled in her cozy cottage on the grounds of her grandmother's historical home. She's making new friends and trying to steer clear of several old friends. After a funeral for a friend's goldfish, Chloe rides with Chief Garner to join the rest of the funeral party for dinner, but before they can get to the restaurant, a call comes in. Chief Garner flips on the red-and-blue lights and Chloe goes along for the ride to a local RV park. Once there, they discover the manager of the park dead in the swimming pool. The Chief says it's an accident, but Chloe doesn't buy it. When clues from this death point to long held secrets from the decade-old death of Chloe's best childhood friend, things get crazy.
I truly like Chloe. She's a bit of a mess but also stubborn and fairly level-headed. Her Grandma Lily and Chief Garner are great characters, and her friend Bree is great for a good laugh. I love the descriptions of the house and the town. Peterson makes you feel like you're right there inside the story. I will definitely be reading more of her work!

I think at this point, we all know that I am a sucker for a well done setting, and that is usually what seals the deal for me falling in love with a book. Jericho Falls is amazing and of course I continued to fall in love with that beautifully small town.
However, in this case, it was our main character, Chloe, who really stole the show and sealed the deal for me on this book. I loved her in the first novel, but Collection of Secrets really stuck out to me, and Chloe was a star. And the main reason she stole the show was the fact that she wasn't perfect. She sometimes said the wrong thing, she tripped, she made mistakes, and I loved it. It made her feel so real and I could relate to her so much more than most heroines. Despite her imperfections, she was kind, loving, and brilliant, so it made sense why she was able to develop so many wonderful friendships within the town and it really made the book pop.
I will always love a book that has an overarching mystery, I love being able to connect who characters used to be with who they are presently. Being able to see a character's emotional connection to the case helps me connect as well. It was interesting to watch Chloe as she faced her past with the help of the Poisoned Pen Book Club. I obviously need to find more book clubs, because that is absolutely the kind of support and positivity that I need in my life (without the crime, please). I am hoping to see more of all the book club characters in the next book!
This is such a wonderful cozy mystery series and I would highly recommend checking it out!

Collection of Secrets is a cozy mystery that picks up a few months after the first book ends. There's enough background and character backstory that it could be read as standalone.
The title is a good one. It seemed like everyone has a secret or two that comes out as the plot unfolds, and Chloe's past collides with the present. The threads left hanging in the first story are tied up neatly in this book. I hope that doesn't mean we've seen the last of Chloe and her friends in Jericho Falls!
Chloe has all the best intentions, but she is apt to say or do the wrong thing, especially with the Chief. She learns from her mistakes (and he learns from his) and their slow burn romance progresses. In fact, they find the body while they're on a date. She investigates on her own when she doesn't agree with the Chief's assessment of the circumstances, causing some trouble for him again. Really, he should have learned his lesson the first time and paid attention to her theories! :)
A fun cast of characters, vivid descriptions, great dialogue, and timely clues make the story easy to listen to. The ending was another twist I didn't see coming, which I loved again.
Kristin Hamilton returns to perform the audio version, with different voices for each character. She is perfect for channeling Chloe and bringing the narrative to life.

Fun New Cozy Mystery Series
If you haven't read the first book, I would recommend reading before this one. I think they could be read independently but it's much better in order. I love that this is a clean cozy series that I can let my teens read. The mystery side isn't a predictable one which I love... Nice to have enough twists and turns to keep the puzzle going. There's an element of romance in this book but it's more of a slow burn and may take a few books to really heat up. Definitely recommend it to the clean cozy mystery reader.
Parents- PG-PG13 good for middle grade readers to adults
Language- don't remember any bad language, definitely no f-bombs
Violence- a murder but nothing too graphic
Sexual Content- very clean, no bedroom scenes
The narrator (4⭐) did a great job with the differentiation and acting skills. I did like it better at 1.3x speed but I do tend to listen to many books a bit faster.

Once again Brook Peterson has crafted a mystery that kept me turning the pages and guessing “who dunnit“ until the end. I adored the characters in the first Jericho Falls book and that adoration grew in this book (book 2 in the series). I loved how the characters interacted with each other and (because I am hoping there will be more Jericho Falls books in the future) I really enjoyed how each of the characters’ strengths (and weaknesses) played off each other. The author has created layered and realistic characters that a reader cares about, roots for, and even feels sympathetic towards. The various relationship dynamics really bring the characters to life. Chloe and her Grandma Lily’s loving banter (and their shenanigans) made me grin and fondly remember my own grandmother.
If you are a fan of classic “whodunnits “ you will love both of the Jericho Falls books.
Five Stars all the way for

Great addition to the Jericho Falls Mystery series!
Why does it always happen to her? Chloe has asked herself that question more than once. She just happened to be with Chief Garner when he discovers the body of the local RV park owner in her pool. The chief believes it was an unfortunate accident, but Chloe’s sixth sense tells her there’s more to this situation than meets the eye. It seems everywhere she turns in Jericho Falls someone has a secret they’re hiding. It’s up to Chloe to keep unraveling the secrets until the truth comes out.
Great small-town characters who won’t give up until they’ve solved the case. Good solid twists and turns to the mystery with a dash of romance thrown in. You’re gonna’ love your trip to Jericho Falls!
I received an ARC from the author. All opinions stated are my own.

Another great cozy in the Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries series! I loved it just as much as A History of Murder. A Collection of Secrets once again starts on a hilarious note and keeps going from there. I really loved the RV campground setting for the mystery. Very original! It might not be your traditional cozy mystery setting, but the author made it feel very cozy. I also loved getting to see more of Jericho Falls, like Nick’s Knacks.
The mystery was very engaging, as was the ongoing plot surrounding Chloe’s best friend’s tragic death. The author definitely left me wanting more and I found myself reading the book quickly.
I’m so glad we saw more of the book club and Chief Garner! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

A Collection of Secrets is the second installment of the Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries Series. To make a good cozy mystery, you should always start with a death within the first chapters. In a great cozy mystery, you need to make sure there's something really fishy about it. And if it's quite literally fishy, even better. The mystery was very engaging, as was the ongoing plot surrounding Chloe’s best friend’s tragic death. The author definitely left me wanting more and I found myself reading the book quickly. If you are looking for a mystery with all the qualities of a classic, clean, cozy mystery, then “A Collection of Secrets” by Brook Peterson is for YOU!

A Collection of Secrets is book #2 in the Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries by Brook Peterson.
Chloe is settling back in at Jericho Falls. She is helping her grandmother and has a part-time job at a coffee shop. After a body is found, Chloe feels the need to investigate whether it was an accident, suicide, or murder.
I really liked how complex the mystery was. There were a lot of unexpected twists that kept me guessing. There were revelations that I hope help the characters deal with the past and move forward.

A Collection of Secrets: Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries, Book 2, my second read from author Brook Peterson, grabbed me and kept me reading until I finished it in one sitting. As good as A History of Murder: Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries, Book 1 was this one is even better! “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author and in particular The Present Predicament: A Jericho Falls Holiday Novella (Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries), the next book in this series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Great mystery. Chloe is finally settling in at Jericho Falls. The owner of the local RV park is found dead in the pool. Rumor has it she was fired and has been drinking. Did she fall in the pool or was it murder? As Chloe searches for clues, she discovers this may be bigger than anybody realizes. There are plenty of suspects to be investigated. There is also a lot of side stories to make this a full, great, well written, story.

Cloe hasn't met a mystery she doesn't want to fix.
Going out with a police man can land you in all sorts of situations, in Cloe's case it is a fresh murder scene hidden behind a complaining trailer park would be romeo. And you know Cloe, she hasn't met a mystery she doesn't want to solve. Gran and her friends get involved in the sleuthing and old hurts are healed along the way. This is a good clean mystery suitable for teens onwards. Nicely narrated. Recommended

Just finished the second installment in Brook Peterson's cozy series. A Collection Of Secrets (Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries, #2) picks up where the first book ends. The reader learns more about the characters and solves two mysteries. I really enjoyed this book (and the series) and cannot wait for the next installment. I highly recommend this book.

I loved this next instalment of the Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries. Chloe finds herself at the crime scene of a murder which the police believe to be a terrible accident. Chloe works to undercover the murderer to ensure that the death doesn't go unpunished, but the answers are closer to home than she was expecting.
I would thoroughly recommend this book, very easy to read and keeps you guessing to the end.

I really liked this story, the mystery and the characters.
I understand that I was lacking the context of some things, as I didn't read the first book in the series, but it dod not bother me too much, as it sometimes does.
The narrator was good and made the whole experience very enjoyable.

When Police Chief Garner offers Chloe Martin a lift into town and they end up at a murder scene. Chloe is drawn into the case and it's possible connection to what happened to Christy. This is a great mystery, it has humour, suspense a little romance and Grandma Lily’s attempts at matchmaking.
The narration is excellent

Sorry - this was a DNF for me. There was too much lying, stupid hiding, and emergency interruptions that could have waited. Absolutely no reason for Chloe to get involved with the investigations - but she just couldn't help herself. When she had to talk with Blake and turned away with the conversation, I was done. Nope, no more on this series.

A delight from start to finish. Chloe is an absolute standout—she made me laugh out loud, cringe in secondhand embarrassment, and even shed an occasional tear. While I was able to figure out *who* was behind it, the *why* was thoughtful and satisfying. The small-town charm and strong character work make this a highly enjoyable and memorable read.

Chloe is convinced Barbara Duvall did not accidentally fall into a pool and drown. As she investigates it seems to involve the mystery of her best friend’s death years ago in this engaging plot-twisty cozy. Received as a complimenatry copy from the author in return for an honest review.

A Collection of Secrets is a captivating story from beginning to end. It is witty and has a lot of intrigue and a lovely set of characters (Grandma Lily is my favourite).
A wonderful and very well narrated cozy mystery.
