A Twister neck tie. A Stepford Wives frisbee. An embroidered satin jacket for The Color Purple.
With these and 160+ more artifacts of Hollywood marketing excess and ingenuity, For Promotional Use Only celebrates the boom-era of movie promo from 1975-2005. Featuring a foreword by Roger Corman, an essay by Lindsay Zoladz, and an oral history by Caroline Golum.
Yeah it’s kinda cool but in all honesty I just wish there was more to it, it feels like a top 10 weird promo items would give more information, like at least a simple how does this tie into the movie, where was it sold, why was this manufactured? Things like that would have made this so much cooler, if I didn’t get this from a library and actually bought it for 52 dollars (plus shipping) I would be kinda sad
Another very random book I found out about from another NYT article. I was pretty amused to see all the bits of swag from a whole host of movies throughout the years. Some was better than others and it makes me wonder was fabulous bits are still out there that weren't include din the book.
Really interesting promotional merch for an array of movies. I wish there were a bit more background information for some of these along with their photos. My friend had it as a coffee table book so I looked through the entire thing.
