Vicious Male Counterpart Isn’t Competing Anymore [恶毒男配不争了[重生]]

Rate this book
Before he was reborn, Yan Hao never understood why his parents always favoured his younger brother, giving him all the goodies and not getting any attention no matter what he did.

The more this happened, the harder it was for Yan Hao and the more he was upset, so he fought with his brother in every way.

Whenever his brother wanted to do something, he did it too, and he did it better.

But it was clear that he was the one who did better, but he was never recognised by the people around him, his parents, teachers, classmates and friends all looked at him with disdain, saying that he was jealous, selfish and liked to steal from others.

It was not until his death that Yan Hao realized that he was stealing from the protagonist.

He was a malicious male counterpart in a book to set up the goodness of the protagonist, a cannon fodder to make the protagonist attacker appear to hit him in the face, and to make him feel good in front of the protagonist.

When he came back from rebirth, Yan Hao kicked the protagonist away, who the hell wants to compete with you, I turned around and you couldn’t catch me even if you cried.

He doesn’t fight anymore, he’s not jealous, he just wants to be quiet and be himself.

Let his light shine on the people who care about him.

Many years later, someone asked Yan Hao, who had become a master mech builder. “How did you get into mech building?”

“Because I met someone.” Yan Hao.

This was fun to read but the jump to the Zerg war stuff towards the end felt a little random. The first half of the book was more about YH building a life for himself and finding people who cared about him; the focus was very much on growth and healing and university life. Then suddenly SH isn’t around as much and the Zerg war is upon us and time just zooms by and a lot of important advancements happen in throwaway lines. YH’s family just disappears (which I didn’t mind, but YF was such a dick I’m surprised he just stopped harassing YH) and the interstellar pirate thing (!!!!!!) just … didn’t play as much of a role as I thought it would. YH never did get to meet SH’s mom and Sima whatever went from being a legitimately terrifying guy to oh just another mecha fighter.

I feel like there was the potential for two separately excellent stories here—one being YH’s rebirth and how he broke free from the cannon fodder shackles and the other one being the intricacies of the Zerg war and how they defeated the king worm and how YH coped when SH was trapped in the wormhole. If the book had been longer (or if they’d been two separate novels) that would’ve been perfect IMO because there would’ve been so much room to explore these ideas the way they deserved.

As it stands though, this was a nice find on NU but it feels incomplete.

Todo excelente... Pero EL FINALLLLL AHHHHHHH
CÓMO ME HACES ESOOOOOOOO

I feel like I should note that I've followed this novel for so long that I am very bias towards it.
The story starts of with some fun face slapping but gradually moves into a more action based form as it expands upon the interstellar world it's based in. Unlike most that use this setting, it spends less time on some weird political system that may or may not exist, and more time on the military matters of fighting the zerg. Since the story starts with them in college it bring a nice build-up from working with mechs to repairing them in the field and further conflict. I found it flowed and increased in intensity as the novel went on.
MC and ML continue to be adorable. It's very admiration at first sight, which leads further interactions. Both have their good and bad points and they compliment one another. They build on each of their dreams which leads to a very satisfying romance to read about. Along with this, the side characters are very fun. Most have strong personalities, so the chaos of their dialogue actions usually ends up being funny and a little heartfelt.
The biggest draw for this story was the setting related to MC's field. Mech building stories usually go right over my head. They either end up being a "yeah it was built now we fight" or a "here's a 300 page manual, please try to have some semblence of understanding". This novel found a nice balance between the two. The descriptions are fascinating and escalate as the MC moves up in the field. This compounded with the ML using the mechs gives such clear insight into the circumstances surrounding them. I could have honestly read a lot more just for the college years.
Overall, the story was great for it's setting, fast plot and a fair amount of face slapping. The characters are compelling and it manages its romance portions well. It's well worth the read.
Like
• Interstellar setting is used correctly and in interesting ways
• MC and ML are sweet together. No major push and pull drama between them
• The side characters were genuinely funny most of the time
• OP MC but in a good way. Personally I found that I liked how smart he was since it almost always was linked back into his calculation skills
• Mech building was somehow made fun. Not overtly technical but just enough you can "understand" was going on and make it Seems cool
Disliked
• Somewhat rushed ending in terms of the romance. The conclusion itself is satisfying but I wish we could have seen more to how they lived after
• Politicking. Not much, but not it's not for me. Doesn’t include MC though

Interstellar. Rebirth. Military. Mecha.
This was quite heavy on the Mecha research and military battles, but it was really fun to read. The comedy, the sweetness and the occasional angst made it hard to put down.

Our protagonist Yan Hao dies and discover that he's a cannon fodder in a book of which his younger brother Yan Fei is the protagonist. So, when he's reborn, he decides to get as far away as possible from him as not to be dragged into the plot and relive the same miserable life again. First order of things, escape the pharmacy department and switch to the Mecha Manufacturing major at university. But we quickly notice that this simple switch is having major changes on the original plot.

Yan Hao is a high IQ low EQ type of genius. You can imagine him misunderstanding things, tricked and manipulated and put at a disadvantage his whole life. Though his character hasn't changed in his second life, he now has people who like him and protect him. And that makes all the difference ~

I quite interest with a plot of this novel. I'm very curious Why his parent be partial? what actually happen in his previous life? How good he is?

My opinion
It’s good to read but i’m not satisfied. It’s a bit rush. Where is his little brother? How he going? His parent? The ending is just really end? no more extra chapter to wrap up a whole story. Got to say, I’m little dissapointed.

BEWARE of SPOILER

In his previous life, the MC was constantly in competition with his younger brother—the original protagonist (ogMC). When ogMC chose to study Pharmacy, MC did the same. But unlike ogMC, who had a natural gift for creating new formulas, MC had no original talent in that field. What he did have was a super-genius-level Math brain. So, he quietly took ogMC’s formulas and recalculated them to be ten times more effective. In short, ogMC was the writer, and MC was the editor—an essential role, but one no one ever truly valued.

When he died, MC finally realized his place in the narrative: he had been the villain all along, while ogMC was the “son of heaven.”

After being reborn, MC made a conscious decision to avoid ogMC and everyone associated with him—especially ogML. This time, instead of studying Pharmacy, he pursued what he had always loved in his past life: Mecha engineering. With his math skills, MC soared above his peers in the Mecha department.

Still, he tried to tone down his brilliance. In his past life, people accused him of showing off, and that criticism had left a scar. But as he found new friends, mentors, and eventually ML, he began to learn that people who truly care about you will celebrate your success, not condemn it. Slowly, his self-esteem grew.

Meanwhile, ogMC sensed something missing. He couldn’t figure it out at first, but eventually realized that while he could invent countless formulas, he lacked someone from the Math Department who could fine-tune them. In high school, that person was MC. Desperate to get MC back to Pharmacy, ogMC tried various manipulative tactics. Once a white lotus in his previous life, ogMC gradually morphed into a full-blown green tea b*tch in this one.

The first half of the novel focuses on MC’s growth and innovation in Mecha design. The second half shifts to the war between humans and Zergs. The story had promising elements, but some were introduced and then… never really used. For example, the pirate legion was mentioned but completely ignored during the war arc. ogMC also disappeared abruptly after ogML warned him to stay away from MC. Toward the end, a new Marshal was supposed to be chosen, with ML’s older brother and ogML as the final candidates—but the story just ended without resolving that plot point.

Despite those shortcomings, it was a good read overall. The novel isn’t fully translated yet, so I MTL’d the rest using Google Translate. Honestly? I never found MC to be overpowered. I’m not sure why some readers keep saying that. He had talent, sure—but he also worked hard, made mistakes, grew as a person, and had to fight for his place.
